“Old & Worn”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 February 2011

This is the most outdated & worn Scandic hotel I have ever visited. Since I travel a bit in my line of work, I have quite a few to compare with. The hotel is in desperate need of a renovation, & the staff all seem to have lost their 'spark' too. Two advantages though; free parking, & a quiet neighborhood. The only Scandic hotel worse than this one, might be the 'Malmen' in Stockholm. They play kids/youth music through out the hotel, to the extent that you can not get any sleep! Elmia is at least calm & quiet...

The rooms are ok and clean, somewhat small for three people but ok standard (no minibar though) and bathroom. The beds are ok, but the extra sofabed gives even the most tolerant guest a hard time. The breakfast is to die for, fantastic variety of food and drinks, even fresh orangejuice, fresh fruit, several kinds of bread, yoghurt, cereals and sprinkles etc the list goes on and on. The are also making sure that the food is ecological and that there are options for the allergic guest. The service at the reception was ok, however the receptionist could not recommend anything of the sightseeing in the area and had no information what so ever. We got a leaflet from 2009 which was the only information they had! So far so good. Since the hotel is so far from the city center (jkpg and huskvarna) it is quite crucial that the restaurant is of good standard: here the food is expensive and not worth it, the food took more that 45 min to arrive and then the staff had forgotten the starters. That would have been acceptable if the staff had been more friendly but they only added on to the terrible experience by shrugging their shoulder as if "these things happens and it is normal". A few days later we decided to give the kitchen another chance, but got an even colder welcoming, the staff didn't even bother to help us with table nor recommendations for smaller dishes but left before we could get seated (which we had to wait for). If there was another place close by, we would have left. Unfortunately this casts a shadow over the entire experience so even though the breakfast is fantastic, we would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

This hotel has a great location if you just are passing Jönköping or has an activity at the ELMIA exhibition center. I am afraid that this hotel has the same problems as many of the other Scandic Hotels in Sweden. They are getting dated and urgently need to update their rooms. The rooms are often very small with old furniture and a dated shower. In order to pursue their "environmental friendly image" they have taken away real showergel, shampoo and a soap. They have larger bottles on the wall, very unpractical and the combined shower gel/schampoo is not suitable for us with a bit longer hair :-) Small towels and everything is white..Positive things: they usually have a great restaurant and the breakfast is super and included in the price. The staff is are also very welcoming and they have a special program for small children! So, do not expect a high class hotel - but a basic place for a good night sleep and bring your own schampoo!

  • Liked — Nice staff, nice restaurant.
  • Disliked — Very dated impression and a bad shower.

We went by car towards Smaland and had stop for the night.

The staff was very helpful and gave us much information about thing to see in Jonkoping.

Small room but a nice bed.

The breakfast was above average.

Good hotel if you just staying for one night.

This is a basic roadside motel, nothing more. However, it is clean and serviceable and if you just need a place to stay for the night en route to somewhere else, it will fit that need.

Rooms were good-sized, as were bathrooms. Room was fairly clean. Decorating was old / outdated and hotel exterior has definitely seen better days.

Conveniently located right off of interstate, although there did not appear to be many restaurants nearby. We drove to downtown Jonkoping and were pretty disappointed, and ended up eating in the motel restaurant (good).

Cost of the hotel was fairly high, and did not exactly represent a good value. The breakfast was quite extensive, however, and had a great variety -- very nice.

Four of us stayed here for $121 a night which included a fantastic buffet breakfast. Eggs, sausage, superb pancakes, cereal, bread, and yogurt were available. The breakfasts were worth $40 alone. The room had plenty of space, the bathroom even had heated towelbars, there was an outdoor balcony, the wireless internet was superb, and the staff was very helpful even opening the pool for us outside normal hours. We have not found many rooms in Sweden that would accomodate 4. Given that Sweden is an expensive place to tour, this hotel should be given highest consideration. By the way, the bathroom did not have a shower curtain - it was a glass door and it was clean!

  • Liked — Room held four people comfortably
  • Disliked — It was not in the center of town

The rooms and especially the bathroom was a disaster. The shower curtain was ripped and had yellow stains on it. Simply not worth what you pay for it...The food and especially the breakfast made up for some of the disappointment...Wouldn't go there again.
