“Great Location!”
Reviewed 19 October 2013

Located on Gamla Stan you have access to many areas of the city and the ability to really enjoy Old Town. The facilities are clean and staff was helpful. The layout is quite spread out with multiple doors to enter each room and showers down in a basement which can be a bit far depending on where your room is located.

Hi

This is definitely one of the best locations to stay in Stockholm. The hostel is clean and has the bare minimum of facilities you need.

Drawback is that it's quite noisy with the road outside and other tenants roaming in the hallways. Also there are only two toilets.

We stayed in the basement, in the four people dorm. It's not very spacious, but could definitely have been worse. Problem opening the windows though.

It's cheap, so I guess you get what you pay for. But not much more.

We were looking for an affordable place to sleep while visiting the old city. 2 Kronor is a good price quality solution. I liked the location of the hostel as well as the atmosphere the building breaths. However there are some small downsides as well. The doors slam pretty loud so I woke up multiple times at night even with earplugs in. This could be simply solved by applying more pressures on the door handles. Also there were just two toilets and the showers were just OK. Please fix the non closing door in the main shower. Overall it was average.

I recently stayed 3 nights with a friend in the 6-bed mixed dorm. The location is great. It's practically within walking distance of almost everything touristy. The staff was very kind. We arrived 6 hours before check in after a long flight. They were fully booked, but still allowed us to come in, wash up, and have some breakfast. The room was relatively small, but we were mainly looking for a clean and safe place to crash after a day of walking. The hostel does have rules regarding noise levels past certain hours and all the guests were mindful. However the place is located very close to several bars, and open windows are a must during the summertime (no AC) so if loud music bothers you, it may not be ideal.
It's certainly not a five-star hotel, but if you want to see Stockholm on a student budget, this place is great.

The location of 2KRONOR is perfect. You couldn’t ask for a better location. It’s located in the old quarter and on the outside of it so you can over look the bay. Very nice. It’s attached to a hotel and the signs out side make it fairly easy to find.

It’s a smaller hostel maybe holding 10 rooms. They have a nice kitchen and a small eating area so its really easy to meet your fellow travlers. I think that is what I liked most about this hostel.

The Bad: You have to pay extra for linen or you have to bring your own, which is not a big deal but they should just go ahead and include that in the price. The reception is only open five hours in the day so if you need some help you have just a few hours. With that said, I didn’t need to talk to the reception but other times at hostels you may need to ask for advice. The rules. Oh the rules. The rules are posted everywhere. Don’t do this, don’t brush your teeth after 10pm, no alcohol, no smoking, etc. I respect all these rules as its designed to make everybody’s stay pleasant, but they inundate you with these rules posted everywhere. It makes you feel like you have to tip toe around the hostel. Also there are all the keycodes and doors. There is a keycode to enter the building, a door to access the hallway to access another door with another keycode to access your dorm area, and then the final door with keycode to get into your room. Finally, there are only 2 toilets but there are a few sinks downstairs located next to the very weirdly thrown together showers.

The hostel makes me think that the hotel used all of there excess space (ie basement and closets) and turned those areas into a money making business. A hostel. People staying at hostels don’t care right?

Even with all the negatives, I did enjoy my stay there and I would even recommend this to budget travelers. Just know that there are a few annoyances, but you can get past that.

Room Tip: Yes, make sure you get a room up on the ground floor and not in the basement. But the window was ni...

For the price you do get the very minimum, but to be honest, it is what you expect. The room was small and dark with seperate beds, a bit like a prison layout without the toilet, the communal showers we just usable by someone who is 6 foot plus, the kitchen area and shared sitting area were fine.

The staff were very friendly, as we other guests which made it overal a very good place to stay.

I have just returned back from a 3 night stay in 2Kronor. Overall the hostel was fine for what I wanted (a place to crash after scurrying around museums and galleries for the whole day) but there were definitely areas that could be improved upon, and the majority of the guests I encountered were less impressed than I was.

Pros: excellent location right on the waterfront in Gamlastan, and it is cheap (though if money is of a real concern Sweden might not be the place for you...). The dorms were well heated and clean and had lockers in them and the beds were comfortable, and overall even in a 6 bed dorm I slept okay. The showers in the basement were powerful, warm and clean.

Cons: the dorms were absolutely tiny; barely room for the beds that were crammed in, never mind any luggage. My bag was under the bed the whole time, and my clothes were along the wall in the bed with me. It made for sleeping conditions that were less than ideal, and was certinaly not helped by the fact that many room-mates were not using any sheets or even sleeping bags, but just lying as the beds were - the smell in the morning reflected as much. There was also a distinct lack of toilets in the hostel, with only two I could find.

Overall then, it was fine and though when returning I might spend a bit more to get a slightly bigger room and better facilities, it was good enough that I would definitely consider returning.
