This hotel is charming on quiet and leafy Skeppsholm island. We loved the contemporary design, with gorgeous lighting in a building which has so much history. We were welcomed heartily when we checked in and found the reception staff to be helpful. We were particularly impressed with their recommendations for restaurants and "must do's".
We enjoyed our suite on the top floor with the wonderful views across to the Gamla Stan and Sodermalm area. The bed and pillows were great, but we would have liked to have a kingsize duvet.
The breakfast buffet was beautifully and stylishly presented, and we loved the wonderful array of spreads and jams, the delicious smoked salmon, assortment of freshly baked breads, yoghurts and perfectly scrambled eggs. I loved the stylish decor and art in the common areas of the hotel - ie reception, dining room and board room.
We found the hotel to be easily accessible by foot to most areas of the city.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and would definitely return when I visit Stockholm again in the future.

This hotel is a former Swedish naval barracks on a beautiful island in Stockholm. It has a pretty, natural setting that is uncommon in urban hotels, to say the least. Our room was on the 3rd floor and it was a large, comfortable room with a nice view of boats on the water & other Stockholm islands. The furnishings were very much in the Scandi-modern vein. In this regard, the bathroom "sink" was actually a slab with a faux rock set on it. I could not successfully brush my teeth without getting splattered with toothpaste & water. (Don't even think about washing your socks in this sink...) The other complaint I had about the bathroom was that it was so dark that you could not put make up on with any sense of what you actually looked like. The walls were too dark & the light was insufficient for the task. In the bedroom, you could not read after dark, either because the lights that were provided were inadequate.

However, by average European standards, the room is enormous & you won't feel cramped at all.

The included breakfast was very good. There was a large selection of both hot & cold foods & you could eat enough to carry you through a good portion of your day.

The food in the restaurant was also very good and the service was good, but the menu did not vary at all from lunch to dinner or day to day. This was a drawback, because there is no place nearby to have dinner. If you are tired at the end of the day, you can eat dinner there once, but you won't want to do so 2 days in a row.

The staff is very friendly and helpful at this hotel. There is a good mix of guests, young & old, hip & not so hip, staying at this place. They also seem to have special events here. It is quite a peaceful and beautiful setting. It is very close to the Modern Art Museum and the architecture museum, which are both also on the island.

I and my team are pleased to read you enjoyed your stay with us.
It's correct we have some design issues in our bathrooms and we are working on them.
Glad to hear you enjoyed our stunning location on this green island in the city centre.

I hope we will have the pleasure to welcome you back to our Eco Labeled hotel in the future.

Best,

It’s a converted 17th century barracks that had several other functions more recently. It therefore comprises two long buildings, with fairly small rooms, but restored and redecorated to turn the whole into a ‘design hotel’. It’s all in muted Swedish grey, whites and blacks. It’s on the Southern end of Skeppsholmen an island connected by bridge to Norrmalm and by ferry (Stockholm Card not valid) to Djurgarden and Gamla Stan. This means it’s quiet, green, with lovely views across the water to Södermalm. Try to get an even-numbered room for these views. It’s a 20 minute walk to Gamla Stan, but there’s the 65 bus every twenty minutes that takes you to Central Station and beyond. A taxi from the station is about 150 SEK – not cheap – and if you get the wrong sort (as we did) it can be as much as 450 SEK. Check the prices on the side. So it’s not the most convenient location, but there are upsides. There are several museums on Skeppsholmen itself, including the outstanding Moderna Museet (for which the hotel provides a free pass), the East Asian museum, and the interesting National Museum is just over the bridge. We found it a very pleasant experience being on a green island looking out across the water.
The staff are competent and friendly. The housekeeping is excellent. I think our bedclothes and towels were changed every day. The bathroom bits are also excellent, though I suspect the brand was chosen as much for its white and black packaging as its quality. The breakfast buffet was about as good as such a thing could be, with good salmon, cheese, bread, ham, fruit, excellent bread and jams, and drinkable coffee and teas. (I am against breakfast buffets in principle, since many breakfast foods need to be cooked to order). We ate dinner there one night – also excellent, nice variations on Swedish themes, though not cheap.
Form or function? The lighting in the bathroom is stylish rather than functional (too dim). The duvet fitted the bed exactly – i.e. it was too small (we got it changed). Our room was elegant but not spacious. The bathroom basin was large stone – we thought it worked well – form and function.

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for this lovely review. So glad to read you enjoyed our historical, Scandinavian interior Eco labeled hotel.

Regarding our amazing bathroom amenities from the hyped Swedish perfume house Byredo, yes we like the
design of them but we chose them due to the great product and that they are Swedish which is in line with the Swedish concept of the hotel.

Best and I hope we will have the pleasure to welcome you back soon again.

This is my first hotel complaint in writing ever. We stayed five nights here in September. The breakfast is good and the staff friendly and helpful; the restaurant offers a small choice, but all is well-prepared, and there's a thoughtful wine list. However, the room is where it counts and this room was so overly-designed that we had to wonder what the hotel owners were thinking. Their guests' comfort was obviously not their prime concern. It's simplest just to make a list of all the room's design problems: a single duvet that wasn't wide enough for two people (I heard other guests complaining about this too at reception); halogen reading lights mounted so low over the bed that they clunk you in the head and then slowly cook your scalp; an absurd designer sink in the bathroom that omits the 'sink' concept and sprays you with water every time you turn the faucet on (see photo); a shower, lacking seals around the glass walls, that soaks everything nearby, including the nearby toilet tissue; no place to put your luggage, and too little drawer space. In addition, our 'park view' ground level room looked directly out on a sidewalk and a road--the 'park' was beyond. We had no privacy unless we closed the shutters, which pitched us into the cold glare of the room's halogen lights. One of the reading lamps over the bed malfunctioned two nights in a row, flashing on and off, on and off; the wifi, tho gratis, is very slow; and finally, there was a mild but persistent smell of sewage in the room, which the hotel staff did not address successfully.

Room Tip: If you're determined to stay here, ask for an upper floor room.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write this review.
Very glad to read you enjoyed our breakfast, our restaurant Långa Raden  and the service from my team.

We are not a traditional hotel and I agree we have some design flaws and these we are working on and some of the design are cutting edge and are something we are proud over.

I hope you enjoyed our stunning location in our historical buildings from 1699 and if you decide to try our Eco labeled hotel again I recommend a larger room category and maybe one facing the sea.

Best from a sunny Stockholm,

As soon as you cross the bridge onto Skeppsholmen Island, you can sense you are in for something special. To be surrounded by trees, lawns and within 50 metres of the harbour makes this place a great location.

We visited Skeppsholmen some 8 years ago and then it had only the Museum open with everything else boarded up. Now you can walk all round the island, see some old tug boats and take in the views of Stockholm. All very pleasant.

Yet an easy 30 minute walk along the harbour front takes you into the shopping area or Gamla Stan.

The hotel itself was previously a military barracks and you can tell this from the long corridors through out the building.

We had an upgrade to a sea facing room on the first floor. Not a perfect view as trees, fully in leaf and laden with apples, obscured things a little.

The room was Swedish design and decor at its best. We loved the light in the shower which illiminated the falling water.

We had two evening meals there and enjoyed them, although as seems to be the way in Sweden, there were only 4 or so choices for each course. Food in Sweden is very expensive and these were probably the most expensive meals I have ever paid for.
Staff all very pleasant and welcoming. Breakfast excellent.
No tea or coffee facilities on our room.

I think this is probably the best hotel I have stayed in because of the standard of the hotel and location.

We have recently had a 6 day stay at this unique and beautifully situated Stockholm hotel. the setting and the style of this hotel is very comfortable and just the perfect situation close to the city centre and affording great views of the beautiful harbor. The food and staff were excellent however the big frustration was not having a guest laundry for long term long distance travelers. Some hotels just don,t get it! If you travell along way for an extended stay, you must have laundry facilities

Room Tip: Can,t see the sea from the sea rooms,so go for a garden view

Stockholm is expensive, but you can help with costs and relax more by choosing this 'home-from-home' in the tranquil & leafy island setting right next door to 'Moderna Museet' and the 'Photography Museum' and easily accessible via Bus No. 65.
Friendly and polite hotel staff are right to feel confident about their high quality service. Highlights are the hotel's tranquil garden & terrace with sea view, understated and exceptional hotel cuisine (book the restaurant in the evening too), yet best of all breakfast 'Smorgasbord' (organic teas and beautifully presented 'English' breakfast, just 'Swedish' style).
Plus, a general no-fuss-approach with secluded privacy. Apart from a few 'design' touches which seemed redundant (– a real sink is just easier!), we enjoyed our short stay. Room categories are slightly confusing: 'standard' rooms have no waterfront view, but are still cosy and comfortable.
This hotel is not in the over-busy Old Town, yet easily accessible from the city centre and at the same time incredibly peaceful. Hotel Skeppsholmen is a real find, exceptionally stylish and truly puts its guests at ease.

Room Tip: Several categories – 'Standard' has no waterfront view. Recommend a sea view room! We liked...
