It is difficult to evaluate food at different restaurants. Sometimes just as in real life there could be a small or larger quarrel in the kitchen. Yet, if the atmosphere is great and the staff is really trying the food has a chance to rise to the occation. You will experience Gamla Stan 100%.

Nothing is cheap in Stockholm, so take a deep breath before you venture into shops and restaurants! We were pointed towards Marten Trotzig by the front desk at our hotel, and what a good suggestion. It's a cosy, pretty restaurant in the Old Town, the food was fantastic (we did, of course, have fresh fish ... when in Sweden ... !) and the service highly efficient and pleasant. I can't recommend it enough. And in terms of cost, it wasn't above the average local restuarant price, so all in all a top experience.

A friend recommended the place and I came specifically to eat the reindeer dish. The place is not cheap at all, but it is possible to eat not spending a fortune. I ordered the roasted fillet of reindeer with Västerbotten cheese polenta, butter roasted oyster mushrooms, black currant sauce and lingonberry sabayonne. The name is very impressive, but it was good, but nothing remarkable. The portion is rather small, specially in what concerns the mushrooms and lingonberries. The polenta tasted bland, the mushrooms were very good, the meat was OK.

I had also heard about the typical cloudberries and ordered the cloudberry symphony. Again, it was good but not special. The service was friendly, but not so friendly for two women that sat down on a table beside me without the maitre having ordered so, and were treated without much respect. As in many places here, the prices are high, the portions are small. I guess you can find better value for money elsewhere.

Food and service were good. We went there for dinner and the waiter only brought us the more expensive menu. We wanted the meatballs and he reluctantly brought the bistro menu. Meatballs were very good. We overheard another couple talking about the tip and when we got the bill, the machine told us "amount to (sic) low". Whereas the service was good (smiles are extra), we believe the tip should be determined by the customer and not the machine. 12 per cent on the service seemed appropriate, not 15 per cent on the service and the 25 per cent VAT. Somebody must have rigged the machine. An unpleasant end to an otherwise good outing.

We found this restaurant via Trip Advisor & agree wit past reviews. The food really was lovely, this is not cheap eating but worth every cent. The services was a little 'put on' however we had a few laughs here and there with our waiter. The staff are keen to get tables served and cleared but honestly the wondrous food makes up for this. We chose menu one and two with matching wines - and each of our courses were just divine.
Having started with a cloudberry cocktail, then all the alcohol wit
H each course, we floated out!!
