“will stay here again”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 August 2011

We stayed 5 nights in Diplomat hotel Stockholm. We were 2 adults (me and my mother) and a 2year old boy. Overall we liked the stay and the service. And the best thing is a location of the hotel. Please see details below:
Pluses:
- great location. close to shoping district, to gamla stan, to skansen. We never used any transport. Walked to skansen even.
- the building itself is beautifull. This year they celebrate 100 year of the building. Still it gives some minuses - see below.
- we took "diplomat room" side view, and it was ok for our family. Still room was not very big (25 or maximum 30 m2). We had special discussion with the hotel staff about the size and the possition of the room when we did booking. And after all that everything turned out great. Also we took a special offer "family package", which gave us good value for money.
- Our room was decorated quite well for are4* hotel. Still, be aware that they have done some photo-shop tricks, so rooms on hotel website look better (and younger!) than in reallity. But still - it's ok! In sheraton stockholm rooms look "younger", but have no individuality.
- The staff on the reception is very helpfull! Before my booking, I asked them several questions and got very rapid and full answers.
- Breakfast was very good. Better than in sheraton on my oppinion. +The restaurant has nice view on water. Also we took lunches several times - were quite ok; and room service - did not like, overpriced a lot.
Minuses:
- Elevator is only one and very old (100 years?). It gives it greate charm, but it did not function sometimes because some gest did not closed the door of the elevator properly. We lived on the 2nd floor, so we were ok. But it is not so easy to climb to the 6th floor. Especially with a baby. We stayed in Sheratn stockholm in july 2008 and there was a line for elevators too.
- We had some small problem with a sink in a bathroom (water did not go as fast as it should). Still everything was sufficiently clean.
- Once there was a line (quite big!) for a breakfast. We waked up early and were among first visitors of the restaurant. But others had to stay quite long. I think, it's a general issue for hotels due to high season in stockholm in july (again - i remember overcrowded sheraton's restaurant).
Final resolution: we liked our stay and next time I will chose the same hotel.

Room Tip: I would recomend "diplomat" kind of rooms (they are bigger).

My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Diplomat Hotel in July and I'll kick off this review by referencing my husband's comment that it was the most comfortable place he's stayed next to home.

The hotel itself has a lot of character and charm. The lift is a bit antique in style and function but it adds to the feel of the place. Our room was small but very comfortable and I'd imagine that many of the rooms have very different layouts based on the floor plan of the building. The bed was extremely comfortable and the view of the harbor (even though we had a courtyard view room) was lovely. We really enjoyed the breakfast offerings also. Wonderful fresh breads, fruit, yogurt, meets and cheeses. It was a typical European style breakfast however they did offer scrambled eggs and bacon for those who prefer an "American style" breakfast.

I have to mention the ideal location of the hotel as well. We were a short walking distance from Gamla Stan and Djurgarden. We felt like we were in the middle of it all, surrounded by great restaurants and all the must-see museums. We went for a daily run in Djurgarden, a must for traveling athletes. It was the best "city" runs we've ever had. What a gem. If you're looking for a restauraunt in Stockholm, I'd recommend Fem Sma Hus. It's a fifteen minute walk to their location in Gamla Stan. You'll experience the most unique surroundings and delicious authentic Swedish food. Definitely don't leave without taking a tour of all of the "small houses".

The only shortcomings were that on the Friday night we stayed there was some loud music that went well into the night. We had no idea where it was originating from. There was also some noise from the street below as many of the high-end vehicles seemed to see that particular stretch as the spot to gun their engines. We also had an adjoining room and we could hear the guest next door quite clearly as they walked around their room. We assumed they could hear us as well so we felt the need to speak with lowered voices.

Overall, these few negatives did not tarnish our stay in the least. We would visit Diplomat Hotel again without hesitation.

Great hotel. Beautiful. Excellent service. Super rooms. The location was outstanding, within walking distance of the lovely old district Gamla Stan and super views of the river and surrounding locations. We loved it. We would definitely come back.

The Diplomat Hotel has a lot to learn about service and friendliness. The reception area is lightly staffed and there was not a bellman in sight. We were not informed of the amenities of the hotel. Nor did we feel welcomed in any way. We were given our keys and sent on our way which is fine for a less expensive hotel, but I expected more from the Diplomat. The elevator worked sporadically and I had to purchase a current adaptor when I couldn't find mine because all the "loaners" were gone. That would have never happened at a Four Seasons property. We had to leave for the airport at 7:30 am and no breakfast options were available to us. Not even Room Service. Also we had asked for connecting rooms and that request was not honored. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the WiFi was complementary. The hotel is located on the water and is in a lovely part of town; however, it location also contributes to the noisy atmosphere when trying to sleep. All in all I would not recommend the Diplomat Hotel.

We booked originally a standard room but once in the room we realised the view was poor (there was actually now view besides a grey wall). We asked for a room with a view which was offered by the hotel staff with a upgrade cost of 500 Skr. The restaurant area (T/Bar) is rather small especially during breakfast when all residents eat there. Room is cosy and well sized, bathroom is a bit small and can use a refurbishment. Overall we had a great stay at the hotel.

Wondereful location by the sea. We had booked a special week-end rate of SEK 1.750 per night for a double room including breakfast. Guess this was for one of the smaller rooms but we were upgraded to a spacious and very nice room with twin beds. Very friendly and service-minded staff, nothing seemed to be a problem. Breakfast was the normal buffet, nothing special about it at all except for the excellent espresso they offered. We will certainly be back.

We stayed two nights at this Stockholm hotel. Although the building is very old and classic, it has been updated and maintained well so that despite the small rooms and bathrooms, the decor is very contemporary and functional. We had a bedrrom, small sitting room and a full bath/shower. The only negative was the lack of air conditioning but we opened the windows at night which made the room very comfortable. The hotel's location is perfect, with excellent accessibility to the sights and attractions, but in a quieter, classy neighborhood with many restaurants nearby. The breakfast buffet was a little limited but with good quality of food and ambiance. I would definitely stay here again.
