You have to understand that you are in Stockholm and it's not the Hilton. What it is is a charming old hotel with a very accomodating staff in a wonderful location, old town Stockholm.
We were there for two days, after a cruise, and we were more interested in the locale than the hotel, although I wanted something nice. The room was smaller than most, with only room for a queen bed and a small chair. All in all it was the size of our cruise room, so I guess we were used to it.
You can have a wonderful two days in Stockholm and see everything in Old Town from this location.
Breakfast was great!

Small rooms, no amentities

Great breakfast, some staff was helpful.

If this is the 7th best hotel in the city, I would be shocked.

1st floor rooms have windows to public patio

So cannot open windows with privacy.
Room was stuffy and bed terribly uncomfortable

Yes, like all previous reviews said, the location cannot be better. It's only one block away from the T. Imagine if you are pulling a luggage (well, if you always call cabs to hotels then this doesn't apply to you), this is so wonderful. And since the island is so small, everything is within walking distance.
As for the hotel itself, if you are visiting the old town portion, it means that you are interested in vintage surroundings. Then this of course fits the bill as part of it. Quiet, nice cozy room. It is smaller by American standards but for me it is good enough.

Rica Gamla Stan has two major selling proposition: the location, which ist just perfect, in the heart of the Old City - Gamla Stan and the wonderful breakfast.
In the same price bracket we had to choose between Rica and the international hotel chains and I am glad i have chosen this one, as it has a lot of personality and a nice decoration. There is no control of air conditioning in the rooms, meaning the air conditioning is centrally manouvered and you cannot even switch it off.
All in all, a nice hotel.

Room Tip: Do not accept the ground floor rooms (very noisy, as near the elevator)

Very late check in with no problems thanks & able to leave bags on last day. We picked this hotel for the location which is great & also convenient for the underground station. Our room was spacious & clean but certainly not top notch - the wardrobe opened into the door hinge, the radiator cover was falling apart & the light switch in the bathroom was loose - would never be allowed in UK. The bathroom was so minute you could sit on the loo & clean your teeth at the same time! The shower section was fine.
We never found out how to get to the terraces & there were no afternoon drinks available when we got back from sightseeing. The breakfast was very good (but we had better) & the staff worked hard to keep all the dishes filled but the dining room is much too small for the number of people and it was a rather unrelaxing start to the day as you searched for a table & pushed by folk to get to the buffet.
I think this hotel merits a good score on convenience and ambience but probably overpriced even so.

I recently spent 3 nights at the Rica Hotel Gamla Stan. I found the hotel to be very clean, charming, "old school", and friendly. The included breakfast is delicious and bountiful. If you take your breakfast earlier than later, you will find it less hectic to find a seat. My room was comfortable with a nice bathroom and shower. I had a window on the ground floor, opening to a pedestrian side street, but never had trouble with street noise. I would recommend this hotel for many reasons, but one of the best is that it is in the "old town". Another is that it is only 3 minutes walk from the subway, which can take you efficiently almost anywhere you want to go. On my arrival date, I got to the hotel before 10am, long before check-in. They are kind enough to safely stow luggage until the room is ready. That enables you to begin exploring right away! There is a lobby bathroom where you can wash your face and hands after travel.
If the opportunity arises, I would gladly stay at the Rica Hotel once again!

Nice hotel at the edge of Gamla Stan. Nicely furbished and clean rooms. We had a very small room towards the front which was noisy - trains, car traffic, pedestrians, until very late. Maybe it is better towards the backyard.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms to the front.
