“great little hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2013

I had the opportunity for a brief trip to Stockholm and wanted a hotel convenient to major attractions, restaurants, and transportation due to limited time. Rica Hotel Gamla Stan completely fulfilled all those criteria. It is in a charming old section of the city with cobblestone streets and historic buildings. At the same time, it is near modern conveniences like the train station and ferry service. The rooms are not large or luxurious by American standards, and there is no business center/fitness center/conference center as you would find at a typical American chain. On the other hand, the meticulously clean and cozy rooms, extremely comfortable beds, and free, fast wireless were much appreciated. There was also a small roof deck right outside our room, with lovely views of church steeples. Breakfast buffet was delicious with excellent variety. The staff was uniformly excellent, very knowledgeable and helpful, and had our room waiting for us despite an early morning check-in.

Room Tip: 401 is right next to the roof deck

One of the most fabulous small hotels in the centre of the lovely Gamla Stan. Although it's a bit expensive it's worth seeing. The hotel staff was also very friendly and polite. There were no problems with checking in earlier though we were living on high season. I would love to come over one day once more.

This hotel is in a excellent location in Gamla Stan. It is close to metro and ferries, in addition to being in the old city. We had a mini suite, with a small bedroom and living room and tiny bathroom. The room and hotel were lovely. Unusually excellent buffet breakfast. We are told where to park our car. It was only a 10 minute walk and not usually expensive. The hotel is expensive, but you are paying for excellent quality and location

Everything in Gamla Stan is only a few blocks away; you could not ask for a better location. Both the water and ferries, and a huge number of shops and restaurants, are convenient (there is even an English language bookshop down the street). The staff is attentive, the rooms are clean and well-appointed. Excellent breakfast served each morning.

Room Tip: Rooms that face the street can be a little noisy if revelers are about, carousing into the wee hours...

On the plus side, besides the excellent breakfast choice (I nearly ate my own weight in mini-pancakes over the four mornings) the location is great and the staff are all very pleasant. Also it's reasonably priced and the bed was very comfortable.

On the less positive side I think it is looking a bit tired and faded rather than charming. My room 211 could definitely do with a lick of paint and curtains that actually close properly. The shower-room was compact - nice shower area but step outside it and there wasn't room to swing the proverbial cat.

I don't think I'd stay here again even though the location is great - 2 minutes from the underground and also the Djurgarden ferry stop. I think this hotel is definitely a place for people looking for a quaint European experience.

It isn't the Grand Hotel-- but neither does it have the Grand price! We had a charming room, in an authentic old town building. Rooms are small (think NYC), but seem characteristically Swedish. The breakfast buffet is amazing (better than you'd find at a chain hotel by twice) with traditional Scandanavian fare, plus eggs, meat, pastry, fruit -- something for everyone. We were worried that some reviewers mentioned noisy streets -- but we stayed Midsummer eve and found no problem at all. For the suitcase laden, be aware there is a small elevator and no bellman. Great streets to wander -- and nearly across the corner from Flyt, a bar on a boat with lovely views. Enjoy!

Gamla Stan = old town in Stockholm with terrific atmosphere. This hotel is an interesting old building, very friendly and helpfull staff, free coffee and buiscuits in foyer, rich and tasty breakfasts. On the roof is gorgeous terrace. Room was small but clean with renovated bathroom. No wardrobe! Near to metro station, where is also food store.
