Owner description: The Old Town, unsurprisingly, is the oldest part of Stockholm. It's certainly the tourist's go-to destination, but that doesn’t detract from its architectural and otherwise urban beauty.

“Quintessential old Europe feel”
Reviewed 23 November 2013

Cobblestone streets, small lanes and alleys on every side, candlelit shops, quaint restaurants, lots of historic sites to visit, beautiful church spires, royal palaces, water on all sides -- Old Town Stockholm has it all.

Go multiple times and make sure you go after dark as well.

“Yes, it's touristy, but..”
Reviewed 21 November 2013

Yes, its touristy and crowded, especially in good weather - what would you expect from a museum-like part of town? Yes it is expensive (it's Sweden, for God's sake!); yes, the shops often sell trash - need to buy it? But still the Gamla Stan remains a Nordic gem. Your visit to Stockholm will not be full, if you do not spend good part of a day in the Old town. Tired of crowds? Just dive down (or up) some narrow or the narrowest alley and suddenly you are in small, quiet and almost totally deserted square with a fountain. Instead of buying Chinese cheapery which is called souvenirs, browse in antique or second hand shops - you will find amazing small treasures for an affordable price. But - beware of pickpockets. They also love Old town with its crowds.

“Colorful And Quaint Area To Walk Around At Anytime”
Reviewed 20 November 2013

Within easy walking distance from Central Stockholm no trip to Stockholm would be complete without a visit to this area.

In Old Town Stockholm down narrow streets with tall colorful buildings you will find all type of shops, restaurants and a few of the city's more famous landmarks.

The multi block Royal Palace is found here along with the towering Stockholm Cathedral. Just walking the outside of both of them is impressive.

Circling the Royal Palace you will soon come across some of Stockholm's active waterfront where at the right time of the year you can hop aboard a boat for dinner, a canal cruise or to spend the night.

Even after dark this area is still lots of fun with a very vibrant nightlife scene.
