After reading other trip advisor reviews my expectations on this hotel sank. After my 2-night stay with my 9-yearold son, I was delighted that our stay was a great one. And I think some of the reviews are unfair. This is an old building and you have to be able to take the charm that comes with that. For example, yes the bathrooms are an addition within the rooms - of course, since there were no bathrooms in each room when this hotel was built. We stayed in a single room with an extra bed and have no complaints about the size, bathroom (which was as new) and cleanliness. The location is obviously one of the best you can get in Stockholm. The breakfast very good, and a very Swedish hotel breakfast, of the kind that a Swede now living abroad enjoyed immensly. The lady (I assume the owner) in reception was very nice and also helped me out when my adaptor for the poer outlets didn't fit. I would absolutely recommend this hotel. But of course, you have to be openminded about an old building and not expect spotless "as new" feeling.

I seldom rate hotels, but expected a 4 star hotel and experienced 2. Great location but the hotel needs a full renovation. Apparently they are choosing cheapest alternatives in everything from maintenance, furniture, repairs, service, breakfast (ok selection but low on quality). Moved to next door hotel Diplomat. A world of difference for a small extra payment. Expect to be disappointed.

The 3 best things about this hotel are the following:

1. Its situation: on Strandvägen, one of the most beautiful streets in Stockholm, at 5 minutes' walk from the Old Town.

2. The building itself, one of the most beautiful art deco buildings in the city, in front of the harbour.

3. Its breakfast buffet with high quality food, wide range of breads, jams, meat, yoghurts, etc.

The rooms are quite comfortable, clean and quiet.

The worst part is, as usual in Stockholm, the staff. The receptionists were correct but nothing out of this world. They smiled a little but nothing else. They were slightly warmer than the freezing cold weather outside.

In general it was good but not excellent.

Room Tip: Rooms on the little courtyard are quieter.

Stayed here for 1 night following our stay at the ICEHOTEL, its only redeeming feature is its central location. This is a family run hotel and its clear from the minute you walk in that standards are pretty low, reception and breakfast rooms were basic. Our room No.34 overlooked a central yard which was frequently used by staff from the adjoining properties and combined with almost no sound insulation to our windows, was very distressing when they transfer kitchenware across the yard and slamming doors whilst you're trying to sleep. The hotel has no facilities whatsoever, not even a bar. We spoke to reception, who advised that the hotel was full, although we didn't see that many at breakfast. Our room included a bathroom which had quite obviously been added on, however it resembled a cupboard rather than a classy bathroom. Not a hotel we'd recommend. Recommendation: Try the adjoining Hotel Diplomat as it looked much better quality altogether.

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel.

This was our second stay in this charming hotel which has an excellent view across the harbour
and is only a five minute walk from the centre. The handsome 'art nouveau' building forms one of a chain of fine facades along the waterside of Strandvagen. Trams pass along here giving easy access to other parts of town. Important institutions such as the National Gallery of Art are only 10 minutes walk away around the other side of the harbour. The small reception area with friendly staff leads to the curving stairway (there is no lift) opening on the first floor into a spacious lounge. All the rooms are arranged around a central courtyard, so if you follow the corridor round, you come back to where you started. The rooms are traditionally but comfortably furnished.
The breakfast selection is very good, but seating is limited and it may be difficult to sit with your family. Amazing design shops such as Svensk Tenn are a few doors away along Strandvagen
and don't miss the amazing Saluhall indoor food market which is only a few minutes walk away. You can also eat in one of the restaurants there. We would certainly go back to this comfortable hotel
