“Lovely hotel in perfect location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2010

I stayed two nights at this hotel which is a very beautiful hotel in a top Stockholm location. The staff very extremely friendly at all times and made this a great experience. The room exceeded my expectations with amazing views of the palace, top class furnishings and toiletries etc.
This is a top notch hotel full of lots of character so not too stuffy.
The room I had was very large with a good sized king bed. Lots of nice touches including free mineral water at turndown and a bag of high quality local fruit jellys.
Easy walking distance to many of the Stockholm features.
Free wifi and wired network provided in the room which is a very nice touch.

I would have normally chosen a more modern and affordable hotel, but we stayed at the Grand Hôtel on award points, and it was very enjoyable. The location is great, as the building is one of the sights of Stockholm itself. But I found the hotel a bit disappointing: very tired, and in need of refurbishment. Apparently some of the high end rooms have been renewed, but ours, just a "superior double room" was not deserving of a 5* star hotel.

But anyway, what is new and great is the Raison d'Etre spa, which is free for guests, and every time we went, almost empty. We would stayed longer there, but Stockholm is such a great city, and the weather was very nice, for a change.

All in all, a very good option, especially if you enjoy hotels with grandeur.

this wasnt my hotel of choice as i was about to choose the Radisson Blu since the room was bigger, but and i mean but... i believe i have made a really wise decision in staying at the Grand Hotel, you cant go wrong with the A) location, best and easiest location
B) service; they are all helpful and charming C) its just a nice hotel to stay in.
though the downfall was my room was next to the allyway towards the left of the hotel and at night cars and bikes were just speeding which is something beyond the powers of the hotel.
overall my room was nice, spacious enough, cosy. i havent seen the other rooms in the hotel as a family member stayed there and said there room was a newly furbished one, so it would have been nice to see that.
honestly speaking i think the Grand Hotel really hit the mark by being an Intercontinental Hotel, unlike some i have been to..

Looked newly refurbished with all the trapping of good intercon service. The rooms are reasonable but since it is an old building, they can be quirky. The staff is very friendly and the breakfast is rather generous. The location is very good, we could walk to our meeting within minutes.

Added excitment is that the Noble Price recpients stay in the hotel during the award ceremony!

I am going to go back there on a holiday with my wife and stay at this hotel

Had a spacious but very dark inside room without a/c (which is important on the hot, humid nights you can get in Stockholm during summer) - we were uncomfortable but OK by leaving the window open all night but I wouldn't have wanted a street facing room.

What made our stay though was the fabulous new spa, which is free to guests (tho treatments are extra). Pool is small but adequate and the sauna (with adjoining cold plunge pool!)and steam room are great. Free chocolates, fruit nibbles and herbal teas left around in the relaxation areas were appreciated. And the icing on the cake was the blissful 'quiet room' - comfortable recliner, soothing pine decor, artificial flames in a fire (not as tacky as it may sound) and gentle music available through good quality headphones.

What also made our stay was a book called 'Walk Eat Stockholm' (part of a series on European destinations). It describes about 12 walks, in and around the city, many by water (lake or sea), and all accessible by public transport. As a result we not only exercised and relaxed, but saw sides of the city that few tourists reach.

The most elegant hotel, where they take service seriously. However it would just be another 5 star hotel with great service and a great location without the SPA. Tired after a day of sightseeing - come take a yoga class, forgot workout clothes no problem, wnat to swim or sauna but forgot the swimsuit - no problem. And so seriously beautiful. Romantic evening, reserve a private spa suite- your significant other will adore you.
This really made our trip to Stockholm.

This grand old dame of Stockholm hotels is great place to stay. Sure it's looking a bit faded and the service can be a little inconsistent but its location and general ambiance really make up for that.

We went for a superior room as I had heard that cheaper rooms could be small. And the room was lovely - spotless and very roomy with nice bathroom and huge bath. The view was poor but the rooms at the front overlooking the water and the old town carry a hefty premium.

The hotel’s spa and its pool are fantastic but can get busy around 6pm. The bar is a good place to sit with a drink and soak up the atmosphere and the views. Did not bother with breakfast. We intended one night to eat in the hotel’s famous Mathias Dalgren restaurant but had a look at the menu and didn’t fancy it.

The ferries tie up opposite the hotel and you can do some great excursions. We went to the island of Grinda which was really lovely in perfect weather. The old town (Gamla Stan) is a short walk and also enjoyed Moderna Museet modern art museum and the city hall, Stadshuset.

The Atrium cafe, almost next door in the National Museum, is a good place for lunch. We weren’t impressed with Stockholm’s reataurants (may be we were unlucky) but did enjoy and recommend Pontus by the Sea (about ten minutes walk and great waterside dining) on Gamla Stan.
