We went there on a Saturday when lots of locals enjoy the parks and amusement areas. Parking is scarce so we took the #7 streetcar from near the train station but one can also take the #44 bus. Another option is the ferry from Slossen. Tickets have to be bought from a kiosk, a vending machine or the tourist office (you get a discoung there).

We took the boat from Slussen to Djurgården, which is included in the normal bus-metro day ticket. The park is beautiful, lots of people of all ages, grounds for picnic, and an excellent cafe-restaurant. Definitely worth a visit. We have been there several times and enjoyed the visit.

The Swedes care about everything they do. It is one of their most admirable traits. I am an animal rights activist, sometimes militant, and even I am impressed with this animal park. Why? Because the animals appear happy, exceptionally well tended, physically fit and the attendants are true stewards of these wild creatures.

This may not be the most "exciting" (and I mean that in a derogatory manner) but it is the most ethical and therefore most "impressive" zoo, I have ever seen. Like all things Swedish, it is understated and sophisticated.

I am conflicted recommending any zoo but if you must; this is a great one.
