Owner description: Nationalmuseum is Sweden's premier museum of art and design. Due to renovation, the Nationalmuseum main building is closed and will open again for visits the fall of 2018. Meanwhile, visit our temporary exhibition galleries for design and applied arts in Kulturhuset Stadsteatern, floor 4, Sergels Torg, called Nationalmuseum Design.

Wonderful building and the temporary exhibition we saw here from Russia was astounding. Well worth a visit to see the design area and the fabulous collection. The cafe is nice too with lovely surrounds and a peaceful atmosphere.

The National Museum building is beautiful on the inside, and that was probably the thing we found to be most worth a visit.

It was very expensive 100 SEK during low season and 120 SEK regular season for a visit and it just had two rather small floors of exhibits on display. The top floor had paintings and the floor below mainly furniture and crafts from 16th century to modern. The painting selection was nice but not extraordinary in any way. As the museum was rather small, it was also rather crowded, warm and humid, despite it being winter outside.

The museum shop was very expensive. Had bought an art book at the Gothenburg Art Museum for 295 SEK (regular retail price) but found the same book at the National Museum shop for 479 SEK.

Overall the museum was nice, but for that kind of entrance fee they should really offer something more.

I recommend to visit this museum. There is an exhibition of "Four seasons" (spring,
summer, autumn and winter). Many famous painters.

For a 80 SEK fees, I expected something bigger : only 2 floors. A whole side of the second floor is closed until mid-March. It could have been written somewhere when I pay my ticket at the desk...
The whole part on Swedish design does not have english-written tags. Few of the pieces actually have english-written tags which is quite annoying.
Other than that, the musuem pieces and paintings are really interesting. Especially the Swedish painters of the XVIII-XIX th centuries. Great sculptures too. A really nice one made by Rodin kept my attention for a while.
