Our visit was a couple of days after the wedding of the Crown Princess so the castle was still being brought back to normal. The Castle tour was much like the Royal Palace in Stockholm. Despite being a World Heritage site, the palace was devoid of signage, it is a royal residence after all, but the staff were far more helpful than those in Stockholm. A highlight was the tour of the 18thC theatre which is still used today. Because of its age all the sets have to be moved by hand and much of it is done from the area below the stage. I only know of one other in the Czech Republic The gardens are extensive and include a Chinese Pavilion, which had been extensively renovated with Chinese and Japanese artefacts and magnificent screen paintings and silk hangings on the walls. We travelled to the palace by train and bus using our Stockholm Pass.
