“Extensive Royal Gardens and Palace”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

Drottningholm Palace could at a stretch be called the Versailles of Sweden. It is a bit out from central Stockholm - to get here get the T-Bana to Brommaplan then a bus. The Swedish Royal family have lived here since the 1600's. You can only see the inside of the palace on a guided tour and no photos are allowed. The style is a mix of Rococo and Baroque. Amongst the immaculately cared for lawns and multiple fountains you will find the Chinese pavilion. There are English tours of this also. It is called "The Confidence" and was a place where the royals thought they could escape and have secret conversations with no one over hearing. Finally - if you can fit it in, there are tours of the beautiful Palace Theatre. The Royals loved theatre. In In 1792 King Gustav III was assassinated in the Opera House during a masquerade ball.

“Beautiful royal palace”
Reviewed 30 July 2014 via mobile

Sweden's king and queen live here so parts of the palace and grounds are closed off and there are guards. The palace is large and the grounds beautiful, with a large garden and lake. Apparently you can arrive by boat. The view of the palace on the approach is impressive. The guided tour is well worthwhile and only 10 SEK more than the entrance fee. I couldn't book the tour online and saw people being turned away because the tour groups were full. But the guides didn't seem to mind people listening in and tagging along on the way. The gift shop was good. Unfortunately we didn't have time to walk around the grounds but you could spend a pleasant couple of hours there. My friends said they once ran into the royal couple as they walked there in winter!

“Huge !”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

Very huge and impressive. A huge minus that they let all kind of people/groups in at the same time. This lead to a very noisy atmosphere, and was very disturbing when the guide talked.
