“Swedish historic countryside in the city”

Farm buildings, homesteads, animals, a concert stage and generally lovely and interesting tour of the Swedish countryside without leaving Oslo. Worth at least a couple of hours.

“Better for Younger Children”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

We visited Skansen during our recent trip to Stockholm. The open air nature of the museum was interesting, and it offered an unique view into Swedish history, but my 12 year old son found much of the visit a little boring. Our 9 year old son loved it, and didn't want to leave.

“A step back in time plus bears and reindeer.”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

We are interested in architecture so really enjoyed the relocated buildings.
The area is so big that it does not get crowded.
Disappointingly some of the buildings were shut( it was a weekday) but the ones that had actors in were excellent with lots of stories about what was happening.
The shops and cafes were good and i bought my presents for grand-children here.
We were lucky enough to see teh reindeer being fed very close to us, and spent about half an hour amused by the bears which were in a large enclosure and were playing around with hollow trees and tyres.

Do not miss this place! Its worth every penny!

Go with a lot of time on your hands because its huge and take the time to enjoy it. Its easily the best zoo/museum so far that I have seen in the world...

Animals are cared for and kept in a good condition and as close to their environment as possible...

An absolute delight!!

“Insight into another era.”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

We went there with unfortunately only a couple of hours to spare as we were on a cruise ship and had to get back . We didn't think from the description that it was actually as big as it is. You easily can pass a whole day there. It is vast and you need to do a lot of walking to see everything but it is worth it.
We went in to almost everything ,shops, houses ,school etc. Everywhere there were people eager to show and tell us about life in a bygone era. In the kitchen of one house they were actually cooking and serving the family the food. The smell was wonderful and brought it all to life for us.They had a lot of animals in another section but we didn't get to see all of them, also a horse drawn cart with people on it going about their business. All in all a very pleasant experience for young and old.Highly recommend it.
