The location of The Grand Central is undoubtedly CENTRAL! You can go almost everywhere on foot and there is a lift leading you down to Arlanda express train next door- very convenient! But there is more to it than that. Although it is housed in a big classic building, the decoration inside feels fresh and trendy . We were very lucky to be upgraded to a family superior room on the 5th floor which was fantastic. Parquet flooring, nice seating area , amazing view over the rooftops of Stockholm and a great off white tiled bathroom . What we really loved about this room was that the moment we closed the door we forgot we were staying in a big hotel and felt like we were renting a small flat full of character. Of course when you go down for breakfast in the morning you realize it is indeed a big busy hotel; The tables and buffet area are cramped together and there are so many people moving around filling their plates with heaps of food that create a rather stressful atmosphere . Nevertheless, the breakfast offered is very rich and varied and the staff are doing the best clearing tables and refilling the buffet. On the whole we were very satisfied with our choice.

Room Tip: I can't talk about other rooms but definitely the superior family room on top floor are fantasti...

we needed a hotel stay that was within walking distance of the central station. the room decor was hippy enough for our taste. nice lobby area. great staff. wonderful breakfast!!! only if it wasn't too crowded at some times (that finding a seat is a bit challenging). great location as well! right above the arlanda express train as well as airport buses. and within walking distance to many places including gamla stan.

Having stayed in a number of hotels in Stockholm I have concluded that the price/quality ratio differs greatly, and high price does not necessarily equal high quality. As in all big cities, location is what matters most, and if you wish to stay in central Stockholm with a reasonable price, you usually end up staying in a mediocre hotel at best. Then again, you can find great bargains outside Stockholm.

Scandic Grand Central - in a nutshell - is great location+great hotel+high price. It is clearly Scandic's flagship hotel and its pictures are widely used in general Scandic marketing material. Normally I try to avoid Scandic hotels, as - never mind of the steady quality - they are boring and do not offer anything special.

Grand Central is a nice exception, though. I was travelling with my wife+2 children and we were staying in a family room. For Stockholm standards the room was big, and also very nicely decorated; a nice combination of old and modern. I'd say the room matches well with any hotel in Stockholm. I paid the room with flight miles, but I checked it would have costed around 200 eur / night during July. Not cheap, of course. Nothing to complain - the breakfast room could be bigger and it could perhaps have a bit more variety. Then again, they recommend you having the breakfast before nine, and certainly that is a good idea.

All in all, one of the best in Stockholm and can be recommended.

Room Tip: If you you don't want to hear any traffic noise, avoid street-side rooms.

I do lots of business travels.
To be fair, the hotel overall is good, the bathroom is small, but good, the location is central.
But: I do a lot of business travels over the past 10 years and this is the smallest and worst single room I have had so far - outside of Switzerland - in such a price range (ca 160€/night). The room is small, the bed is mini, the window cannot be opened, aircon is right above the bed Nd one cannot switch it off, no cupboard or storage for nothing. As a single room guest u r forced to live directly from your suitcase... Or you place your clothes on the table.

The personnel was very unprofessional when I asked for an upgrade and even the manager reacted in a rude and unprofessional way - though they were not fully booked and could have gained a happy customer with a free upgrade.

This hotel - never again!!!

Great location as arrived by train and a short walk to the shops and Stockholm town hall. Initially was put in a too small a room to cater for our son so was moved to a bigger and better room for £30 a night extra. A big hotel and although breakfast was very good I wish the seating area was better organised. Had one evening meal in the hotel and was excellent - those meat balls are delicious. On a personal level I didn't like the colour scheme - felt was in Cell Block H rather than a hotel. Staff helpful and friendly and liked the little shop - the ice-creams were good to come to after a hot day walking round Stockholm.

We stayed at the Scandic one night previous to a cruise trip; we booked it online, assuming it would be fine, belonging to the Scandic brand. In few words, it is a typical train station zone hotel, not one of the worst, but not one of the finest either; let's say it is not attractive. The family room we reserved for 3 was very small, with a minuscule bathroom. The big shock came when our 14 year old son went into the sofa bed: "Dad, my sheets smell like..." - the sheets had that very distinctive smell, indeed. Fair enough, I can add that room service brought new sheets promptly, but the bad impression did not go away. On the other hand, breakfast buffet was OK.

Dear Dubson,

Thank you sharing your experience with us.

I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay with us.
We are certainly close to the trainstation, but this is also one of our advantages which many guests prefer as we are close to a plethora of lovely restaurants and not to forget the large shoppingstreets.

Our hotel was built three years ago in a beautiful 130 year old building which used to be called Lundbergs palace in popular speech, and with such a stunning old building comes certain difficulties with building as we were restricted to what we were allowed to do. Therefore our rooms vary in size, we are sorry that we were not made aware that you were displeased with your room during your stay, as we then would have been able to change the room for you.

Thank you once again,

Best Regards,

Sarah

We had a family room for 2 adults & 2 children. It was a spacious room with a big bed and a sofa bed for the children. The bathroom was big and clean with toiletries. The location of the hotel was excellent. The breakfast was surprisingly rich and the hotel services all we could ask for.
