Likes:

* location, location, location. This hostel is located in Gamla Stan (Old Town) which is really a very fun neighbourhood to be in! All its little streets are filled with bars, restaurants and shops and it's very central, so within walking distance of the rest of the city.

* the labyrinth-like style of the place. When they warn you you might get lost trying to find your room the first time, they aren't kidding. It's got a very homely feel to it.

* the breakfast. It's not much, but it has the basics, which was all we needed.

* the shower. Hands down the best shower I've ever had in a hostel!

Dislikes:

* we had booked a private ensuite, to at least have a little more privacy and peace and quiet than we normally have in hostels. But while the room itself was okay and very clean, they fail to mention in the description that some of them are located right in the middle of the common room. Our room, for example, was right behind the TV so you can basically forget about actually sleeping while there's people in the common room. And let's face it, there are virtually *always* people in the common room. The hostel tries to enforce quiet time after 10pm, and a member of staff does come round I think, but we got woken up at 2 or 3am because of people barging in and turning on the TV.

* the beds aren't the most comfortable I've ever slept in. They are extremely soft, and they put some kind of thin mattress on top which keeps moving and it just annoying. I ended up with a backache.

Overall, this wasn't exactly cheap for a hostel (but nothing in Stockholm is) but the fact that we got stuck with which was arguably the worst room in the place just didn't make it worth it.

One of the best hostels in Europe. The location is great; in the old part of Stockholm. Part of the charm of the place is the warren-like layout of the place (you'll probably get lost at first) and homely paintings dotted here and there throughout the building.
Can't comment on the dorm rooms but the private en-suite was spotless and really comfortable. The staff were great; friendly and helpful.
The only drawback was the the kitchen situation. While there are three different kitchens in which to prepare your meals, they were crowded, especially at the cooker.
There were computers with internet access beside reception.
It's an easy walk to the hostel from the bus station if you don't have much luggage.
It's not cheap but nowhere is in Stockholm so in the end it's worth it.

Everywhere in Stockholm is expensive, so you might as well stay here! The central location means you don't have to use the overpriced public transport system for a start, as the centre is just a 15-20 minute walk away. The hostel is on Gamla Stan (Old Town island) by the water, which is a beautiful place at night, and safe to wander around. The shopping street of drottninggatan is nearby, as is the handicrafts/souvenir shops streets (can't remember the name of it but they're behind the hostel!).

We had a private room with bunkbeds which was fine, no problems with the comfort of the beds and no noise, there were only three showers on our floor but we never had to wait to use one and they were spacious with constant hot water. There are also kitchens with free coffee and free pasta, and free breakfast til 10am! Various computers with internet access scattered around too, which are also free. We were warned the reception would be closed after 7pm and were given directions to get to our room (lots of door codes, very secure place) and there was another welcome note at reception, but reception was actually manned and open until 5am.

I fully intend to return to Stockholm as it was so beautiful around the hostel, and when I do I shall stay in Best Hostel again. Don't even bother looking around, you won't find a better place than this without staying on the outskirts and paying £15 a day to get to the centre and back!

This labyrinthine hostel is so vast you can actually get lost in it. However, the rooms were nice ( we had a dorm of 28 beds, divided into groups of 10 beds) with very comfy beds. No lockers though. Bathrooms were a bit of a let down: they were really tiny and not that numerous.
But the kitchen and dining room area was great, welcoming and well organised. FREE Breakfast every morning and FREE pasta every night ! Now free stuff in Scandinavia is really something you welcome with open arms :) We paid 25€ per night (that included linen as well , which is unusual in Scandinavia).
Very friendly staff too.
But the best thing of all has to be THE LOCATION ! Right within Gamla Stan ! We could walk everywhere, and it was so safe at night.
Only drawback was the ridiculously small size of their luggage room... People ended up piling suitcases and bags to the ceiling.

So in a nutshell, for 25€ we got: central location, linen, breakfast buffet, pasta, and a comfy bed. PERFECT DEAL !

Room Tip: Book early !

Maybe I was lucky, as I read some other less positive reviews, however, my stay in this place was really great. To be fair the price of private accommodation was on par with 4 star hotel I paid in Vienna earlier this year (around 70-75 Euro per night); so price /quality value is debatable but well, this is Stockholm. Overall I felt very satisfied with my stay and I would gladly book there again.

I booked a single en-suite room, which turned out to be of ok size, very quiet and very clean. It was in the end of the corridor with one red brick wall, which I really liked. The bed was comfortable, I had very good sleep. Everything worked well - good shower pressure, wi fi also worked in the room, though the reception warned me that the signal may be too weak, but it was fine. There was a small kitchen near the room, which was usually very quiet and comfortable to have tea / coffee in the afternoon or before going to bed.

Breakfast was served in a large kitchen with beautiful view of Stockholm - I just loved sitting there in the morning, sipping tea and eating toast with jam. Though hostel was busy, early mornings were still quiet and really enjoyable. Breakfast is very simple but one can bring own food as well.

They have other conveniences like free internet, free luggage storage, free tea / coffee 24 hrs. On the other hand, you have to make your own bed and there was no cleaning of the room during the 4 days / nights I stayed. So, do not expect hotel service :).

The staff was nice and helpful.

And above all - the location is fantastic. You are in the heart of an amazing city and right by the water... what can be better?! :)

Room Tip: I had a single room 213, I totally recommend it.

They provide free breakfast and pasta and coffee&tea. It's the only hostel i found that doesn't charge extra for the use of bedsheets. Nice and spacey rooms, if you're lucky you'll even get a bed to yourself, some rooms don't even have bunkbeds!
