“Cozy and central”
Reviewed 11 September 2012

The Lord Nelson Hotel is a cozy little place very centrally located on Gamla Stan. The location is postcard pretty! It is very close to the tube station and there are several cafes and restaurants within a block or two. It is very easy to get to the larger islands of Stockholm on foot or by tube. the hotel itself is very small and quirky, however I found it to be quiet - although street noise might be a bit louder on a low floor. The room and bathroom were small but not cramped. The breakfast buffet was simple but filling. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Be sure to check out the rooftop deck.

Room Tip: Upper floors are quieter.

An ideally located hotel in the centre of the Old Town, handy to just about everything. A very old hotel yet comfortable without being extravagant. Being an older establishment space is at a premium, the bathrooms are minute although the room itself was more than adequate. Also the breakfast area is a bit tight for space but given that you are in the centre of town and only staying a couple of days, the location more than makes up for any short comings. Most of the more upmarket hotels are not anywhere as near to the heart of the city and also dockside for Baltic cruise ships. We were able to walk to our cruise ship even with our luggage, you cant do that at most cities in the world.

There were plenty of restaurants and shops within a very short distance of the hotel.

If we ever visit Stockholm again we would stay at the same hotel.

Room Tip: I believe some rooms may vary in size so best to check when booking although as mentioned our room w...

The hotel is right in the middle of all the action at Gamla Stan, close to a tube station, night life, restaurants, you couldn't ask for more as far as the location is concerned.
The staff is super friendly and goes an extra length to serve you better, I got a free early check in as I reached Stockholm early in the morning, the staff made no fuss about it. I also got free tips on the night life in Stockholm from two friendly ladies at the reception, and must say they were spot on. The hotel can have a better sign board as its easy to miss the building while walking on the small crowded street. Its amazingly quiet inside although the streets outside are buzzing with activity. The single room where I stayed was quite small but comfortable and clean. Quite expensive for the size of the room but then one needs to understand that its in Stockholm. Make sure you climb up to the terrace which is nick named Poop Deck, offers a good view of the streets around you. The breakfast is healthy and tasty but pretty basic, no complaints again as it was included in the room rate.

It was a great time in August 08 actually , with fireworks on the last day of summer, with boat trips, with many swedish specialities in the city, beautiful Arlanda airport.

The Lord Nelson is small, but it is mentioned everywhere when you book it. It is such a lovely little place, breakfast was really nice and I liked the staff friendliness. So, all in all, I think it is a best choice for a single travellers and for those who want to see Gamla Stan in the morning (worth it:))

This is a great concept: A hotel fitted like a ship. Your room is a small cabin, perfectly furnished. Tiny yet very comfortable. It has what you need, and no more. Don't expect any frills. No gym, no luxuries. Included is a simple self-service breakfast, with everything I desired. This is a perfect wee hideyhole smack right in the middle of Stockholm's old town. I'd go back. Got a fab deal too, as I only booked the hotel the night before, so got a 50% reduction on the price, which made it good value for money indeed.

The churchbells from Storkyrkan call every 15 minutes. Even in the night.
If you do not like the sound, stay somewhere else. If you enjoy beeing in a place whith soul and peace - go to Lord Nelson. Situated in Ignatiigränd, named after a publisher Ignatii many hundred years ago, this is the narrowest hotel in the city, and in Gamla Stan as well.
Superb staff, nice atmosphere, memories from Lord Nelson and the British naval history. You will not find something like this hotel anywhere exept at Lady Hamilton and The Collector - the Bengtsson family owns them too.
There is to be said that Västerlånggatan turns up to be very noisy and crowded with people in the summer. But off-season it is very quiet and all year round very close to almost everything, the royal castle, the Nobel Museum, Tyska kyrkan, Stortorget and THE Gamla Stan. Go in to the narrow streets - the walls with their old decorations speak for themselves.

Room Tip: The smallest rooms are very narrow, go for the little bigger ones.

Cosy hotel located in the Old Town of Stockholm. Unfortunately that was the only acceptable part. Small rooms, I'm actually happy i didn't have a full size luggage, and lousy lightening in the room. Plain and simple breakfast served and internet only against payment. Didn't fulfill my needs.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Lord Nelson Hotel is an intimate, friendly and pleasant hotel right in the heart of Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s Old Town. You find the hotel on the main street, close to the city centre and all the capital’s sights and attractions. But the hotel itself is also an attraction, as it contains a unique, private collection of maritime antiques – passionately gathered through the decades by the owner family Bengtsson. All rooms have been designed and decorated to resemble cabins on a ship. The building dates from the 17th century and at just under six metres wide, this property is undoubtedly Sweden’s narrowest hotel. In the Summer time the hotel guests can enjoy a Beautiful view on Poop Deck, the roof top terrace. The Continental Breakfast has an organic a fairtrade profile, and the hotel offers free coffe and tea service in the library on the first floor. ... more   less
