“Hotel a bit quirky but ok, staff lovely.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 February 2013

I am used to staying in large 4* hotels with plenty of space and facilities, so it was a bit of a shock when I first arrived.

That said it was adequate, there is an en-suite bathroom but it is too small to change in, there is no fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, and the hotel does not have a bar. The room has a desk and chair and a wardrobe.

The reception staff are lovely, very friendly and welcoming.

The old town area the hotel is situated in is charming, very safe to walk around in, and extremely well situated. There are plenty of bars, restaurants and shops within walking distance.

The beds were extremely comfortable and the room was fairly well maintained. I didn't hear any church bells which other reviewers have mentioned, and I wasn't disturbed by any noise from the street.

There is free wifi which is a bonus.

Breakfast is continental but of a very good quality. The dining room is tiny (it probably only seats about 20) but people do tend to eat up and go so its not a proble.

So this is apparently the narrowest hotel in the entire Sweden! Read info in the lift (all in Swedish though)

On the plus side: Really good deal on that specific night, just about SEK150 more than a private hostel room. Really nice small sauna for own private use. There's also a shower in the sauna. Single rooms have the feeling of really being a sailor on a ship. Liked the nautical interior of the hotel. Free internet also fast.

On the negative side: I can recommend that staff attending to the breakfast great guests in the morning, they are in a service industry after all. Just a pity the weather did not allow the roof terrace to be opened. Also, coming back late at night it feels a bit like one is checking into a school dormitory as the person at the check in desks wants to know one's room number. If it is a matter of security, then rather inform people to leave their keys at the check in desk. Or provide a code at the entrance door, e.g. room number + birth year.

Also, inform guests about the sauna and small lounge on the 1st floor. I can read Swedish and could understand the info in the lift.

Stayed in Stockholm for 3 nights. Once we had got used the crazy prices in the city this didn't look such a bad deal. It really depends on what you want and your budget. It was cosy, the room not as small as some here have had (were we lucky?), bathroom very small but not a real problem. Nice breakfast, helpful staff and central. All in all we enjoyed the stay.

Room Tip: Try to book for 3 nights at least as there are offers at a number of hotels on the third night.

This is a hotel far from the standard business hotels one is used to. Loads of personality, although a bit overstuffed to my liking. I got room number 26 overlooking the street. It is marginally better than the ones overlooking the alleys. Very small, but nicely decorated. Problem is that it is far from adequate when it comes to the following: mattress bumpy and rather uncomfortable, part of shower door missing with a resulting wet bathroom floor, shower head out of order, lack of water pressure, and you can hear a pin drop in the street outside and the neighbours breathe. It is like sleeping in a dormitory. One very good thing though, the telly has an option of attaching a memory stick so you can play your films from files like AVI, mkv, mp4 etc. Good internet-speed. Breakfast served in the reception area, basic and OK.
It gets a rating three only because the location and charm.
Will I stay here again? Not until they have upgraded the aforementioned flaws.

Room Tip: Choose one of the rooms overlooking Västerlånggatan, at least if it is a single.

The Lord Nelson Hotel is a cozy little place very centrally located on Gamla Stan. The location is postcard pretty! It is very close to the tube station and there are several cafes and restaurants within a block or two. It is very easy to get to the larger islands of Stockholm on foot or by tube. the hotel itself is very small and quirky, however I found it to be quiet - although street noise might be a bit louder on a low floor. The room and bathroom were small but not cramped. The breakfast buffet was simple but filling. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Be sure to check out the rooftop deck.

Room Tip: Upper floors are quieter.

An ideally located hotel in the centre of the Old Town, handy to just about everything. A very old hotel yet comfortable without being extravagant. Being an older establishment space is at a premium, the bathrooms are minute although the room itself was more than adequate. Also the breakfast area is a bit tight for space but given that you are in the centre of town and only staying a couple of days, the location more than makes up for any short comings. Most of the more upmarket hotels are not anywhere as near to the heart of the city and also dockside for Baltic cruise ships. We were able to walk to our cruise ship even with our luggage, you cant do that at most cities in the world.

There were plenty of restaurants and shops within a very short distance of the hotel.

If we ever visit Stockholm again we would stay at the same hotel.

Room Tip: I believe some rooms may vary in size so best to check when booking although as mentioned our room w...

The hotel is right in the middle of all the action at Gamla Stan, close to a tube station, night life, restaurants, you couldn't ask for more as far as the location is concerned.
The staff is super friendly and goes an extra length to serve you better, I got a free early check in as I reached Stockholm early in the morning, the staff made no fuss about it. I also got free tips on the night life in Stockholm from two friendly ladies at the reception, and must say they were spot on. The hotel can have a better sign board as its easy to miss the building while walking on the small crowded street. Its amazingly quiet inside although the streets outside are buzzing with activity. The single room where I stayed was quite small but comfortable and clean. Quite expensive for the size of the room but then one needs to understand that its in Stockholm. Make sure you climb up to the terrace which is nick named Poop Deck, offers a good view of the streets around you. The breakfast is healthy and tasty but pretty basic, no complaints again as it was included in the room rate.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Lord Nelson Hotel is an intimate, friendly and pleasant hotel right in the heart of Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s Old Town. You find the hotel on the main street, close to the city centre and all the capital’s sights and attractions. But the hotel itself is also an attraction, as it contains a unique, private collection of maritime antiques – passionately gathered through the decades by the owner family Bengtsson. All rooms have been designed and decorated to resemble cabins on a ship. The building dates from the 17th century and at just under six metres wide, this property is undoubtedly Sweden’s narrowest hotel. In the Summer time the hotel guests can enjoy a Beautiful view on Poop Deck, the roof top terrace. The Continental Breakfast has an organic a fairtrade profile, and the hotel offers free coffe and tea service in the library on the first floor. ... more   less
