I usually stay in the larger chain hotels when visiting Stockholm for work. Everything was booked so this was the only place available on my company's travel site. It is not a place I would ever choose to stay but might work for some. It is a small hotel that is modeled after a ship.. Yes a ship. It also has Lord Nelson replicas and memorabilia thru the hotel. I had a single room and it is not even 100sq ft. The room was a single bed against a wall next to a door to a small bathroom and then the main door. The decor is like a ship, plain, wood deck floors and a port hole on the bathroom door. No toiletries given, 1 small bath towel and thats it. Things are simple here in Sweden so be ready if you have not visited before. The hotel was really clean and everyone was super nice and helpful, its just not my cup of tea. This is for someone that 1) just needs a place to sleep that is clean, taken care of and not expensive 2) the location is right in the center of Old Town 3) does not mind noise. I could here everything that happened outside my room while attempting to sleep. Not a business hotel or romantic spot, unless you love Lord Byron!

Found this hotel on the internet which I chose because of its value and the fact that it was right in the heart of the Old Town section of Stockholm -- and I mean right in the heart of the main street which teems with almost exclusive pedestrian tourist traffic day and night. The room was Spartan but had a flat screen TV and good shower. No A/C in the room but fans are available from the front desk and Stockholm isn't supposed to get hot -- it did -- to the low 80's, but it wasn't uncomfortable with the window open. A nice complimentary breakfast is included in the rate and I felt very safe as a woman travelling alone. The front desk people were friendly and extremely helpful.

This hotel is very central in Gamla Stan and not far from the station. I got a great deal and paid less than half price for my room but I found the decor rather tired. Also seemed to be lots of noisy people around outside during the night not helped by the chiming clock! Didn't get a chance to try out the breakfast which looked good.

Room Tip: Request a quiet room where you cannot hear the clock outside!

The best, or worst, feature of this hotel is its location. Located directly on the main street of the old town you in the middle of the tourist zone. Popular sights are close by and easy to walk to. The train station is fairly close. Many restaurants nearby. So too are all the crowds. It is noisy, even at night. If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing night sleep you may not enjoy this hotel. If being very near the action is top priority you will appreciate this place. Rooms are tiny and expensive (but not as pricy as other hotels in the area). Quirky nautical theme.

Hello
Just want to recommend Lord Nelson Hotel, it is a very nice hotel, clean, neat, quiet, beautiful and it is placed in Gamla Stan, at the heart of Stockholm.
Rooms are small but for me that's not a problem, actually I like it that way
And they serve breakfast and it is very good breakfast!
I would say Gamla Stan is the best part of Stockholm
I highly recommend Lord Nelson hotel, good prices and excellent service and excellent placement!
Also, very nice friendly staff!!

This is an original hotel ... it is certainly not corporate but all staff so very kind and friendly. It is in an amazing position in Gamla Stam, very easy to walk to and from. I have to say it is the smallest room I have ever stayed in, barely enough to put my suitcase anywhere. It is looking a little like it needs a coat of paint and I had one rather scratchy towel. There are a couple of public areas to sit in ... filled to overflowing with the Nelson naval memorabilia.Very quirky. However these shortcomings are more than compensated for by the really charming, helpful staff. All staff were absolutely delightful and friendly.
If you are not after a corporate experience but prefer the friendly, quirky I would recommend this hotel.

We stayed here for two nighs in February and I cannot recommend this place enough, yes the rooms are small and there is no tea/coffee facilities on them but the latter is referred to on the website and I have found very few hotels in mainland Europe that has tea/coffee in the room so that was no surprise. The staff are really friendly, I had informed them in advance that I was vegan and they went out of their way to provide me with soya milk and vegan friendly margarine and bread for breakfast ( a service you wouldn't get in a large chain hotel). The room we stayed in was really sweet, quirky furniture, a TV with several stations in English and a fridge to store the lovely pastries in we bought in the organic bakers in the next street. The Naval memorabillia all over the building added to the charm as did the period looking furniture in the rooms.

It has been mentioned that the shower room is small, this is true but it serves its purpose, why does anyone need a large showroom? My husband is 6ft tall and it was perfectly adequate for him.

The location is superb, right in the cente of Gamla Stan (the old town) and just a few minutes walk from the Metro station to go further afield.

I cannot recommend this hotel enough if you are looking for old fashioned charm in a beautiful city.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Lord Nelson Hotel is an intimate, friendly and pleasant hotel right in the heart of Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s Old Town. You find the hotel on the main street, close to the city centre and all the capital’s sights and attractions. But the hotel itself is also an attraction, as it contains a unique, private collection of maritime antiques – passionately gathered through the decades by the owner family Bengtsson. All rooms have been designed and decorated to resemble cabins on a ship. The building dates from the 17th century and at just under six metres wide, this property is undoubtedly Sweden’s narrowest hotel. In the Summer time the hotel guests can enjoy a Beautiful view on Poop Deck, the roof top terrace. The Continental Breakfast has an organic a fairtrade profile, and the hotel offers free coffe and tea service in the library on the first floor. ... more   less
