“Not as good as I'd hoped.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2013

From the main railway station and bus terminal it is not a short walk to the hotel, our flight was delayed so it was quite late at night when we were trecking up and down steps to get there. The nearest T-Bane station is not terribly close either but it's still in the city centre.

The service was friendly and efficient, the hotel seemed a little dated, especially the lift which was a strange experience. The room was small, we took a double on the first floor facing the street, the bed was flush against the wall so we had to climb over each other to get in or out, the desk was slotted in and I had to sit sideways on the toilet. The shower was adequate but I've never liked the wet-room idea and you end up with the floor covered in water.

The breakfast was good, a good selection, only slightly odd with it being in a Chinese restaurant and there being noodles available. The area gets very busy in the evening at the weekend, it seems like quite a party hot-spot and was a little overwhelming when we popped out at night to get some snacks.

We went on to stay at the Hotel Nebo in Copenhagen and this cost more than twice the price and was supposed to be a fairly luxurious weekend before 'slumming it'. I wouldn't say there was any real difference in the hotels so I find it hard to justify the price beyond having breakfast included. The room in Copenhagen was much larger and quieter.

I stayed at the Crystal Plaza for four days/three nights. The staff were really lovely and very helpful and polite but I felt that the rooms were very hit and miss with what they offered.

The day I arrived I found rubbish in the room left from the previous guest - including their Breakfast vouchers, which was quite disappointing.

The mattress in my room was a couple of inches thick and very hard to sleep on. There were no additional pillows available and this made for a very uncomfortable sleep. Whereas friends of mine had thicker and better quality beds in their rooms.

The tiny bathroom in my room flooded every time I used the shower (the doors didn't meet properly). The room was also very noisy at night due to external noise - there are two bars a few doors away from the hotel that play loud music, and a nightclub just across the road too.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road side of the hotel.

We had high hopes prior to arriving, given the great reviews here - tripadvisor seldom disappoint! However, it was a disappointment for us this time.

Location
Alighted at Ostermalmstorg T-Bana. It was not exactly near, given that we usually choose hotels right next to a station. So this time, location was not a big plus for us. However, it is worth noting that this hotel is located in Ostermalm- the district where the rich and famous are.

Hotel
Looks great from the outside, but really old on the inside. Lift was from a past century. Room was really small and stuffy, but our bathroom was huge, with heated floor. Furniture and all look very old. We felt quite uncomfortable actually, during our 5 nights.

Customer Service
This is probably the best thing about the hotel. Staff were all nice and helpful. Always friendly. The kettle in our room was really moldy, so we were not enticed to use it. On 2 nights, we needed hot water. Both times, the staff offered to give us boiling water. One offered it from the bar - it was closed. and she had to set it up. She did all these with a smile, not a single complaint. The other fetch some boiling water from the office. We apologised for the trouble we caused, but they said they are really here to help us. We were definitely impressed.

I recently travelled to Stockholm on holiday and arranged B& B in this hotel via Bookings .com at reduced rate . I booked a single economy room and was pleasantly surprised to find that the room was reasonable sized, had a decent sized en suite and was clean and comfortable.
the Breakfast served the following day was an eat as much as you can buffet which really couldn't be faulted and the service was really excellent .
My only negative comment was that a nearby bar was extremenly loud until the early hours of the morning and music could be heard even at the back of the hotel 4 stories up. I understand that those sleeping the opposite side ( ie not facing the street) had a quieter night .

Room Tip: quieter rooms are not facing the street / on the west side

I'm sure that the first room i was given could be a perfect candidate for the Guinness record for the smallest hotel room... the bed was tiny and there was a slit in wall which doubled up as wardrobe with no space where to put the luggage... thank God for another 500SEK i got an upgrade to an other room which was slightly better!! having said that the location is rather convenient with just a tube stop from Central station and with some lovely restaurants around the area... the breakfast was also quite abundant which is great considering that eating in Stockholm is extremely expensive... this is why my rating went from poor to average... BUT it is served in a Chinese restaurant that doubles up as a breakfast room and yes, they also serve noodles and meatballs along with the eggs and sausages!!!

Room Tip: Don't go for the single economy room...you won't fit unless you are a size 0

Nice hotel, good value for an expensive city such as Stockholm. We walked from the train station, a bit upwards, some 15-20 min but OK. The room faced the internal patio, but ir had two big windows, and it was clean and modern. I value the frigobar and the electrical kettle, as well as tea and coffee in the room. Yes, the room was small and the wardrobe extra small, one suitcase finds a place , the second should go on the floor. The bathroom was nice, the shower as in most hotels in Scandinavia. Breakfast is served in a Chinese restaurant connected to the hotel. It is very good, in variety and in quality. You can even make your own pancakes. For dinner they have a promotion for guest, which we had once. It was good and the price was reasonable, but all the four night they offered the same food in promotion!. We love to walk, we managed to walk to every attraction, even the old city, and the museums. I would recommend.

We spent one night in this hotel. It is close to shops and bars, and a nice park, and is about 20 minutes walk from the Old town. The staff were helpful and friendly and let us leave our bags after check out so we could continue exploring the city. The room was small but clean and nicely decorated. The breakfast was amazing. Lots of hot and cold choices including a few things you don't often see on a European breakfast buffet. The first was a waffle iron with batter ready to make your own waffles. Thee second was Asian noodles ( the restaurant is an Asian restaurant at night.) there was also lots of fruit. Cereal, yoghurt, eggs, hot eggs, sausages, croissants and more. This was one of the cheapest hotels I could find for the Friday we went to Stockholm, but it didn't feel cheap. Saying that, compared to hotels in other cities it wasn't that cheap. Either way, we enjoyed our stay here.
