Centrally located, yet on a quiet street, this beautiful little hotel really lives up to expectation. Service was impeccable and the room (single bed in this case) comfortably spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable. The continental breakfast (included), served in a cosy dining room, was very good.

We stayed for a long New Year's week-end, to rest after Christmas.

Trendy, new hotels with a "sterile" profile makes us feel out of place, so the Lady Hamilton was perfect for us. The room was tiny (nr 37), one of the cupboard doors wouldn't close, a few lightbulbs were out and we couldn't open the old windows properly - but we thoroughly enjoyed it!

All the pictures, paintings, artworks, artifacts, handicrafts and trinkets gives the hotel a lot of personality and you actually feel like you are visiting a new place - not any random hotel chain! This does make the trip from your room to reception a little longer, as you'll want to stop and have closer look at the clock, the rocking horse, the porslain cups, etc. Especially the staircase was a beloved subject for our conversations.

Of course, you have to try the sauna. It costs 90 SEK per person, and you get to have it all to yourselves for 2 hours, and how often do you get to go down a 800 year old well?!

Breakfast was very good - Scandinavians are good at these. I love herring, and you should try it if you haven't!

Downsides:
The bed was to twin beds pushed together, and I hate "bed-cracks". I don't go on holiday to sleep further away from my boyfriend.
The minibar selection was a little narrow, as well as the items for sale in reception.
The fact that we couldn't open the window and air out the room, beacuse it was badly ventilated and a little damp.

By the way, we were never bothered by the chiming church bells. We only occasionally noticed!

Room Tip: Couples should specify that they want a kingsize or queensize bed, if you hate bed cracks too. Ladies who travel alone (stay in a single room) apparently get some sort of gift basket!

We like to stay in smaller, non-chain hotels when travelling, which is why we chose the Lady Hamilton. We also chose it for its central location in Gamla Stan, the old town. When we first entered the hotel, we found ourselves surrounded by antiques and collectibles. As soon as you enter you get this very cozy feeling - nothing resembling the feeling of entering a hotel, which was a bit different and took a moment to get used to. The same with the room. We had a great room on the 3rd floor, the corner room which gave us a great view of the rooftops in Gamla Stan and in the distance the tower of the city hall. All this was enhanced because it was snowing and everything was just beautiful. The bed was to die for, it was so comfy and warm! If you are looking for a sleek, spiffy, modern, hotel feel, this is not the place. But for comfort, coziness, and feeling like you are a guest in someone's home, this place is it. The staff - every one of them - was so friendly and helpful (in English), the included breakfast was more than adequate with meats, cheeses, eggs and bacon, all kinds of bread, cookies and other sweets, and those wonderful huge coffee cups. The location was a great departure point for walking into the city, around Gamla Stan itself, and over to Slussen/Soder. The Christmas market was just around the corner. If you like hotels that give you an authentic feel for the location, this is it. We hope to go back someday, maybe in the summer when it's a bit warmer, but we loved the snow! It snowed the whole time!

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room higher up so you can have three big windows, and a view of the Gamla Stan street and the top of the city hall in the distance.

We recently stayed in a penthouse old town apartment with our teenage daughter. The 4th floor apartment had a wonderful feel and personality. Be prepared to carry your bags up to the 4th floor of a winding spiral staircase - but its well worth it. The apartment is very well equipped and very comfortable with everything you need for a comfortable stay. It was magical laying in the comfortable bed listening to the various church bells and then stepping out the door into the history of the old city. Would certainly stay in this apartment again.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel in June of 2012. We loved it! Our room was a nice size, the staff was very helpful, and the breakfast was pretty good. The absolute best quality of this hotel is the perfect location in Gamla Stan! The hotel is in the oldest, most historic, and most touristy (luckily I am a tourist, so I loved that) neighborhood of Stockholm. It's a stone's throw from the Palace and there seemed to be dozens of neat little bars, restaurants, and shops within walking distance. The only reason I gave this hotel a 4 not 5 is because it lacks some amenities I except from a 5 "star" hotel (i.e. gym, nicer spa, etc...). Don't get me wrong, I loved this hotel and would stay here again, but it is surely better for a touristy couple hitting the town than a businessman laying up between meetings. Last thing, a couple of people have commented on the noise. Our room didn't have AC (hardly ever need it in Sweden), so we had to open the window or turn on the fan for a breeze. The street has lots of little entertainers and what not, so it can be a bit noisy during the day, but we had no trouble sleeping at night.
