“At #75 Poorly Maintained, Disappointing - And more expensive than #12!!!”
Reviewed 15 July 2013

The above numbers referring of course to traveller ratings - why was I so silly to choose it?? The pictures are deceiving. Read the reviews - I support each one. I should have paid a little less and chosen Diplomat rather. While Hasselbacken has a "ok" location, it seems like "Management" left the building some months ago and no one is taking care of very much at all. And yet such potential in this grand building of yesteryear. My mistake!

Room Tip: Avoid this hotel unless you have lots of unruly kids and don't really want to worry about anyone...

The room rate was about 200€ the night and the room was dirty in places where one would not look for when cleaning husch husch (running through the room with a broom and done). The blanket on the foot end of the bed had stains on them that were hard and white-ish and looked like sperm stains, the saim on a really old couch that was in general stained. Dust on the curtain rod, the lamp on the ceiling next to the vent etc.
We asked them to clean it and nothing, we asked them again and mentioned a few samples and only these were cleaned.
The breakfast table had a dirty, stained tablecloth the one day and it was the same dirty table cloth the nexttwo days.
On our complaint we finally received a voucher for around 20€ which didn't really make it better.

Room Tip: Don't consider any room in this hotel!

Room was a big disappointment with very little storage space. No toiletries in the room, tea and coffee facilities not replenished/tidied.
Garden full of litter and debris left on staircase. Chairs in the reception were Filthy !
Dining room was extremely untidy and food quality was poor (cold soup, cold plates and cold coffee)
Generally the service was very inadequate and attitude to our complaints were not followed up.
Overall this is an outdated hotel which is overpriced for the service and amenities provided.
Scandic Hotels have a good reputation which was badly let down in this instance.

Hotel is outdated. Bathroom is the only part of the hotel which deserves a 4-star rating. Staff is friendly and wireless is free, but that is about it for business travelers. Time to bring some more light and live into this historic building.

This is a lovely old hotel located on the island of Djurgården, with good connections to the central area of Stockholm. The connection from Arlanda Airport took just under an hour in heavy traffic - interestingly the taxis at the airport display a yellow sticker on the rear passenger window with the fixed price fare into town - I took a smaller car paying SEK 545. On the way back the hotel called a taxi firm and gave me a voucher for a fixed price back of SEK 390, which was less than the "sticker" price on the cab which came to collect me. The taxi drivers in both cases were helpful and I was able to pay with a pin activated credit card.
The hotel sits in an almost garden setting away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The waterfront with various museums is within walking distance, the most notable being the Vasa Museum which is exceptional and has a good, reasonably priced restaurant (best to go just before the lunch-time rush!) catering for snacks up to full meals.
Check in was extremely efficient, but the first room offered was old and drab, with curtains that did not close. The reception was very quick to offer another much better room with the traditional Scandinavian twin beds alongside each other with duvets, and a small sitting area, a so-called "Family Superior" room. The room had good power points, a modern bathroom (though without underfloor heating), tea making facilities and a curious ironing board which folded and then slid into the back of the work desk. Wi-Fi was solid and free. There seems to be quite some variety in the room sizes and it would be worth checking when booking.
The bottom floor of the hotel (reception and the roadway entrance is on the second floor) has a good business meeting area where I attended a presentation in a well appointed lecture theatre, with comfortable seats.
Breakfast was good with a wide selection of hot and cold food though the dining room - as indeed the rest of the hotel - appears a little "tired". The reception staff could not have been more helpful and check out was effortless, with a cab appearing in about 10 minutes.
This is perhaps not the hotel for those wanting to be in walking distance of offices in the main centre of Stockholm, rather it offers an interesting option for short conferences and an excellent position for those on short breaks or holiday visiting the nearby museums or neighbouring amusement park. The fabric of the hotel is in need of refurbishment and there was evidence of some work under way, but the staff were exceptionally friendly and the stay enjoyable.

Room Tip: The rooms vary considerably in size. Some have interconnecting doors which might be helpful for fami...

Scandic Hasselbacken is beautifully located on Djurgården, perfect for visiting a greener part of Stockholm. They have a generous terrace and a garden with a play area for kids. The hotel has many families as guests due to Junibacken, Skansen and other family destinations nearby. You can actually hear people's screams from the amusement park Gröna Lund if you open the window. Sounded like fun to me!

Perhaps children could be taken into consideration at Hasselbacken a little better. The indoor playroom was really small. At some Scandic hotels our kids have been welcomed with small activity books, a potty in the room etc. Especially during the summer holiday season It can be a good idea to make families with kids feel welcome too.

Otherwise the hotel was all good! As others have written, a little run down - but still charming and clean. I would definitely come back for the wonderful location and the good beds. Good coffee too.

Situated in central Stockholm, but still on its own at Djurgården. Perfect if you want to visit ABBA The Museum which is just across the road, the amusement park Gröna Lund or the magnificent Vasa Museum (don't miss it!). Also perfect for a walk along the water or a visit to Skansen. A short walk and you're in the middle of the city.

The hotel is good, serves decent food in a beautiful restaurant and provides a relaxing atmosphere.
