“well situated and nice atmosphere”
Reviewed 16 November 2011

Beautiful boat situated in the very center of Stockholm. This hotel is very convenient to visit the city. Nice old boat interior design and warm and cosy atmosphere. Romantic and very exotic.

As mentioned by many previous visitors, the rooms are very tiny (but we took the smallest).
The bathroom with shower was modern but very very tiny, maybe a bit too much. The water was warm.

The rooms are not perfectly sound insulated. People were quite quiet so it went good, but I can't imagine how terrible it could be with noisy neighbors.

The breakfast room is beautiful with a very nice view!

Room Tip: There are rooms with view on water and other on the city.

A nice and unusual hotel. Staying on a boat was fun. Rooms are quite small (I was in a Purser room). Shower was tiny and room a bit cramped. But had a porthole!

The hotel was a bit noisy. It has the loudest toilets ever.

Breakfast was good and included in the price.

I was visiting for a conference at the Munchen Brewery. Was only a 10 minute walk. The Gamla Stan island is really pretty so the hotel is a great base. Easy walk to get to the hotel from central station too.

Would stay there again but it wasn't a good place to sleep in late due to the noise.

I was staying in Stockholm for 2 nights and had to search and search for something that wouldn't break my bank account. Found the Malardrottningen hotel which was the cheapest (not looking at hostel) and review said it's tiny.
Arrived in Stockholm on Friday night and got a cab here - the hotel was all lit up with fairy light, first impression was "WOW"! Most reviews said the cabins are small but i was lucky enough to get one downstairs that has 2 single bed and a desk, which was actually quite spacious considering it was only for one person.
Room was small, but tidy; Hotel is walking distance to Gamla Stan and central Stockholm; and easy to get to the hop-on hop-off ferry sites as well. When i arrived on Friday night it was late so i took a cab that cost about 10 pounds from Central Station, when in fact it's about a 15-minute walk.

Room Tip: Room 120 was downstairs and has 2 single bed, sounds like it may be better than the bunk bed type?

Located at Riddarholmen in Gamla Stan (Old Town) this hotel(boat) is located close to everything in quite surroundings. The metro, the railway and several bus lines are also within easy reach. Small rooms (not surprisingly as this is a boat) and bathrooms, but quite sufficient for sleeping if the aim of the visit is to explore the city of Stockholm. The bathrooms are refurbished and well-working. The breakfast was also sufficcient. We did not try the restaurant onboard. Just a few steps from the entrance there is an outdoor bar which, in the summer season, serves hot and cold drinks and snacks from which you have a nice view of Riddarfjärden, Södermalm and Kungsholmen with the Town Hall. I would like to stay here again.

You don't get much for your Swedish Krona, especially if you are looking for accommodation in the centre of Stockholm. I enjoyed my stay here, though it was a bit over my budget. The Malardrottningen is moored off the island of Riddarholmen of Gamla Stan so is really central to explore the city. I booked a single cabin which was compact but comfortable. A good ensuite, though be aware that when showering it does make the bathroom floor wet. You can hear it when other guests are flushing their toilets, but you are on a boat so it is expected. Would have prefered a firmer mattress and pillow on the bed. TV included, if required. No coffee/tea making facilities in room. Overall breakfast was good - mainly cold buffet with hot sausage and scambled eggs. Found reception staff to be friendly and welcoming. Stayed during calm weather so not much movement on the water. Overall, for me this this was something a little bit different and I enjoyed the experience

A friend and I stayed at the Malardrottningen in a Purser Cabin in July. The rooms are small, but it's a yacht -- what do you expect? Considering that it's in possibly the best location in Stockholm, and that the city is imminently walkable, it's fine for the limited amount of time most travelers will actually be in their room. There are plenty of places on the decks to sit back and relax, read, work on a laptop, etc. The slow rocking of the boat (barely noticeable) is an amazing sleep aid, and the breakfast (included in all room rates, I believe) is to die for. But, the most amazing part of our stay was the fact that, in all the confusion trying to get to the airport to head back to the States, I left a backpack in the cab we took to the train station. Thankfully, I still had the reservation ticket the front desk had given me when they called the cab, so I had the name of the cab company, reservation number, date, and approximate time of our pick-up. I immediately e-mailed the hotel upon arriving home, and the front desk staff (David and Beatrice) called the cab company and retrieved my backpack! They shipped the contents to me (including my cell phone and house keys) and within a couple of weeks of my gaffe, I received the package! As far as I'm concerned, that is customer service the likes of which simply does not exist in this day and age. Stockholm is an amazing city and I hope to make more trips there in the years to come. It goes without saying that Malardrottningen will be my first choice of accommodation.

(One tip -- if you're traveling with heavy bags, try to get a room on the entry level. No elevator (that I could see), and getting our bags up and down steep, narrow staircases was a trip!). Otherwise, an amazing value, a beautiful ship, and a once-in-a-lifetime travel experience. Two thumbs up! (In fact, all ten fingers and toes up!)

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the entry level -- staircases are steep and hallways are narrow and maneuvering...

Stayed for 2 nights in mid June. Was excited to be staying on a boat in Stockholm Harbour.

Unfortunately we must have had the smallest room on the ship, the room is located just under the stairs. Talk about claustrophobic, the room is tiny and the bunk beds that were in the room are so narrow, and being on the top bunk gave you literally centremeters between your head and the the roof. I believe there are plenty of double bed rooms on the boat and my recommendation is go for those and leave this room for the kids.

Unfortunately this feeling of cramped space coloured my feelings about the hotel, however - positives - The location. It is great for exploring Gamla Stan, it is also close to the Town Hall and the boat cruises that explore the lake.

The reception area has free water (natural and sparkling) which is accessed via beer tap style dispensors. The staff at reception were helpful. There is a free internet station but it is a stand up station - just around the corner on the same deck is a nice lounge, and it is better to access the wifi from there on your own laptop. Breakfast is ok, however we were there when the boat was very full, not enough individual tables for everyone so people had to share

Just outside the boat to the left is a great outdoor cafe, they have great food, served promptly and not at an outrageous price like some parts of stockholm. It was great sitting out there in the evening watching the sun sink over the town hall. The Boat also has a bar and restaurant with similar views.

One final tip, Very close to the boat is the Riddarholmen Church, you pass it walking to Gamla Stan - this is a real gem and has the tombs of many Swedish Rulers and other important Swedes. (Oh and one more - Vasa Museum, unbelievable and one of the highlights of the trip. If you speak English try and get there when an English tour is about to start.)

Recommendation - If you do stay at Malardrottningen don't stay in a room with bunks!
