“Enjoyable business stay”
Reviewed 3 October 2013

Stayed here on business, perfect size room for a solo traveller who was working all day, however some colleagues noted their room was a bit small. I thought the size of the room was fine. The room had wifi, bunk beds, tv and a very well-appointed ensuite. The buffet breakfast was good and located in the pleasant upper deck area. I found the hotel very peaceful with an amazing view of the harbour. It was easy to find from either the central station (a 15-minute walk) or the Gamla Stan metro station (less than 5 minutes walk). The room was a very reasonable price compared with other accommodation in the area. If I was in Stockholm again I would stay here.

Room Tip: Note some rooms will face the harbour and some will face the quay.

We had one night at the Malardrottningen as part of a road trip through Northern Europe. The floating hotel was once the property of the Woolworth heiress Barbara Hutton and is a charming quirky place to stay. Reception staff are friendly all speak good English and are very knowledgable. The boat is a 10 minute walk from Central Stockholm.

We had a double cabin that was compact bijou, twin bunk beds and a wet room that doubles as a bathroom. It's amazing what you can fit into a 10 x 10 room!

The room was very clean and the bunks incredibly comfortable, even the porthole worked!!

We ate in the restaurant which is to the front of the boat. The food was prepared to a very high standard, watch out as wine is expensive the service was very good. The restaurant also doubles up as a buffet breakfast area with an excellent selection available.

If you fancy somewhere unusual to stay for a short break in Stockholm, The Malardrottningen is the place.

Great location near old town and not too difficult to drive to. Rooms are small, but it is a ship with limited space and we expected it. Breakfast buffet is typical European and good. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening and it was excellent. Only problem was you cannot open the windows to get fresh air which would have made sleeping a little more comfortable.

OK, the location is great, just a brief walk to Stamla Gam (old town). Have in mind the rooms are tiny (10 sqm) - and 50% of the rooms will NOT be facing the harbor. I did have a double bed first facing the town, and changed to the harbor side the 2nd night where I just woke up with cramps from the smaller bed. Also, suddenly there was another boat mooring besides the hotel boat, making a hell of a noise. I hope it won't come back tomorrow morning! The wireless signal is weak, my phone worked yesterday standing at the door, but today even that trick doesn't cut it any more.

What a fabulous way to spend a four night city break. The hotel has beautiful views and is in a perfect location to explore Stockholm. We stayed for four nights during august 2013.
The cabins are , as expected, on the small side. This didnt cause us any problems at all. The breakfast was lovely, with plenty of choice of hot and cold food with a good compliment of beveridges.
We didnt get time to try the restaurant, although, had we stayed another night, then we would have booked a table. We were given a 20% off voucher for the restaurant upon check in.
All in all, we had a fantastic time in Stockholm- so much to say that- if i had to do it all again, i wouldnt change a single thing! Fabulous.

Room Tip: You should be aware that you may have to use bunk beds

We enjoyed a nice meal in the restaurant, The sunset view over the city was amazing. We also moved to the dock to enjoy the breeze. We had a visit of the different rooms they offer. it is a bit pricey but would be a fun experience. ;)

The staff is lovely. I think Tobby was the first to welcome us on the boat. Very welcoming and friendly,

This is my second visit within a year. The Malardrottningen is wonderful for a visit to Stockholm due to its convenient location, being very close to Gamla Stan. I love it as it is ideal for single travellers, being compact, quiet and neatly laid out. I wouldn't say it is suitable for everyone, certainly not for young children due to space issues, or those who find stairs difficult. I usually reserve the First Officer cabin, which suits me fine on my own but I wouldn't want to share. Others have commented that space is tight for more than one person and I would say that is definitely the case.
Breakfast as always is fantastic... plenty of choice to suit all tastes with hot savoury dishes, cold platters, fruit, yoghurts, breads, cereals etc, all constantly topped up.
Everything is immaculately clean and polished, housekeeping is quiet and efficient, reception staff are friendly and helpful and all seems to run like clockwork.
I really do love being on this boat and will definitely book again, as it's a perfect little retreat while still being near the heart of everything in Gamla Stan.....
