“Questionable Hospitality”
Reviewed 10 September 2013

I was booked into Budget accommodation in the house. DON'T do it. Terrible. Hot clammy dormitory on it's last legs. Horrible shower with a strange smell. The breakfast dining area is in the house which isn't bad but I felt overpriced for a hostel. I ate twice in 6 days.
The boat is better but an extra price which I felt on reflection was high for a hostel. Good showers, a bit tight in space, comfortable beds, low bunk space and difficult to manage privacy.Mixed accommodation which I didn't like and avoiding people you don't wish to interact with can be tough going!! Well positioned though some walking as only one bus from there. Getting to the airport from there is badly planned and a bit complicated. Allow adequate time. I was unlucky to experience SOME unfriendly staff and unhelpful greeting/welcome on arrival.Better when I paid more!

Room Tip: Go to the boat

A very clean, unique living experience in Stockholm. It's walking to the most fascinating. Attractions, clubs and restaurant. You can either stay at the boat, if you feel you might get sea sick stay at the building next to it. I have stayed with friends 20 yrs ago on the boat, it's fun for teenagers! Now 20 years later I loved the building much more. It's a lovely place for great price central to everything!,

We stayed here for three nights in August 2013 and could not have been happier. The ship itself and its location are incredibly gorgeous. The views from every angle are breath-taking. The hostel rooms on the ship are quite small, with bunk beds, a small table and a good-sized armoire, and barely room for more than one person to stand up. So luxury accommodations they are not. But the trade off for price, location and cool factor is well worth it! You can walk everywhere from the ship and are just steps away from the royal palace and the Grand Hotel. There is also a modern art and architecture museum just five minutes' walk away. There is a bar/restaurant on the upper deck and room to sit and take in all the sights of central Stockholm. Everything in Stockholm is incredibly expensive, but this hostel-on-a-ship is a good price and an even better bargain!

After staying here a little over a year ago, I returned, this time staying on the boat. The steps down to the rooms are a bit steep, however, there is a lift. The rooms were very clean. I was in a 6 bed, however, there were only 3 of us in it both nights I was there which is a bit surprising for a Friday-Saturday in late August.

Good facilities, laundry is available as are both a luggage storage room and luggage lockers. There is a bar/restaurant on the deck of the boat and a small cafe in the main building. Breakfast in the breakfast room is not included in the price.

It took me about 20 minutes to walk from Central Station, there is a closer Metro (T) station, very convenient to Old Town (5 to 10 min walk), much nearby shopping, tour boats near by.

I could hear music from boats on the water on night, not really load and not a problem.

It did seem like an abnormally high percentage of the showers/toilets were marked "women"

Room Tip: I liked the boat for its uniqueness.

Cabins on the boat are simple but functional, and there are plenty of bathrooms and showers to avoid long rows.
10mins walk from the old city (30 from the train station), and endowed with a bar for night drinks watching the sunset from the boat itself.
Security seems to be well preserved thanks to the "cards" needed for accessing the boat and the cabins
Compared to prices of other hotels in Stockholm, it appears to be a good compromise

I stayed with my mother in the private room with two beds for three nights in the building next to the ship. The room was tiny but the view from the window was really nice. We were surprised that cleaning was not included in the price of our stay. One should clean the room himself or pay 100 SEK per person. It was also a little bit noisy both inside the hostel and outside the building but in order to keep fresh air in the small room we had to keep window open.
I liked the really nice and soft bedlinen that were provided, friendliness of staff and the location but probably I'll try another hostel next time I visit Stockholm.

I would 100% recommend this hostel! However you must book early to get a room on the boat vs the building on land. The boat is very cool, newly renovated and clean with lots of washrooms and showers and the linen they provide is really comfy! Excellent location and you can walk here from the central train station. It isn't "close" but I managed easy enough! Great to carve out this experience in a nice green space!
