The free breakfast gives you a huge assortment of food (eggs, sausage, bacon, cereals, muffins, fruit, yogurt, etc), the rooms are large and clean, Wifi works great, the staff is very friendly and speak great English, and you're walking distance to Gamla Stan (about 20 minutes). I would definitely recommend staying here again. I did not hear any noise from renovations so that must have been an exception for those who raise that concern.

This is a botique hotel in the middle of Stockholm, well situated to shopping, metro and harbor. The staff was very friendly and the waiting times for checkin/out were acceptable / short. The price is alright given location and standard. The standard room is not too big, but honestly this is the first time I did not miss something - all was there and I am a usual business traveller with special needs (this time for private). The only thing is the shower which is due to the set up of the bath rather small and when you shower you need maybe some extra towls to control the water. I asked for extra towls and they brought it within 5 minutes (I stopped the time but they were just excellent and fast). The breakfast is great: good choice of everything and even aspirin was served in a corner next to the bread - well for the guests who did more than sight-seeing.

There was however one thing that was really disturbing: when I arrived I already heard it and more then in the morning - loud, very loud hammering and screwing. The hotel seems to be in a renovation and although reception said it is an exception, renovation started at early Swedish time of 7 o'clock and continued through the day. It was so loud I could not hear the other person on the phone. Besides this all was perfect (without the noise I would have given 5 stars).

Besides this hopefully temporary noisy renovation I found this a great place and would always come back.

Room Tip: As for a room away from front street.

Just a few blocks away from one of the main streets, this hotel is a great find. Clean, quite contemporary and yes the breakfast is brilliant. Close to the subway, so you are close to everything. Loved it at first sight but first night a drama because of the noise outside. I was ready for a "discussion" at the reception so we could get moved away from the front street, but they were happy to oblige and moved everything for us whilst we were out. Yes the room is a bit small but makes up for it with finish. The air was not connected yet for summer, so it got a bit hot. Moving rooms allowed us to open the window. Gym was temporary I think and too far downstairs to be inviting. Wifi in rooms great. Stockholm and Sweden are real gems and this was a comfortable, good value base to explore. Recommended.

Room Tip: Not the front street.

This fabulous hotel is in a great location, within easy reach of the old town, underground station and bus routes. Though our room was small in size it was well equipped and very clean. The weather was pretty warm during our visit and airconditioning would have been welcomed. We had dinner at the bar one evening, though the menu was limited I thoroughly enjoyed the ample portioned greek salad, service, though friendly could have been a bit quicker. The choice and quality of the breakfast buffet made the stay at this hotel very worthwhile, it was absolutely delicious! Breakfast is available until 11am which means we were able to have a welcome lie in and eat at our leisure! Making the most out of the warm weather, we enjoyed pre-dionner drinks on the stylish terrace. The service on checking in and out was both friendly and efficient. On returning to Stockholm, I would certainly stay at the Birger Jarl again and would recommend it to fellow travellers!

The hotel is very central. 5 min walk from Radmansgatan T-station, which is 2 station away from Central station, which is the station where you can take the bus or the train to the airport.
I took a standard, which was basic but clean and with anything you would expect from a 3 stars hotel, except the hair dryer. The wifi is free. The staff was nice and helpful.
The only minus is the system of magnetic card for the lift that was not always working correctly.

Hotel Birger Jarl is a small designhotel placed in the heart of Stockholm with ten minutes walk to the city center. Its also very close to the tubestation (2min) which gives easy access to the whole of Stockholm. There are many resturants and good good clubs around in the area. The rooms are quiet and beds very comfy. We were a group travelling and really enjoyed our stay.

The breakfast is a smash hit! Eggs, bacon, sausages, lots of different breads and cheese, ham etc. Homemade muesli, coffee, proper English tea(!), and lots of juices. The breakfast is also served longer than at most hotel until 11.

We had a great time!

.. there are works in an adjacent building... and big works which are likely to last some time. no chance to sleep after 8am..
also, bathroom have a bath which is not 'fixed' to the walls.. pretty strange, water goes everywhere as a result.. room only so so, so overall pretty disappointed
we were expecting some trendy hotel, which actuallzy it is not. rooms are more 2 * standards. small, with everything but definitely not stylish

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We welcome and pay close attention to all feedback as it helps us improve our standard and service in line with our guest expectations.
During your stay the office next door was under refurbishment and this affected a few the adjacent rooms, we have been advised that this refurbishment will soon be completed. Please accept our apology for this inconvenience.
Your feedback on the bathtub is relevant and we have commenced a replacement of showers instead of bathtubs to avoid excess water in the bathroom. I am pleased to advise we are in the process of adding another 37 rooms to be completed by 1st of October2012 and would like to welcome you back to experience one of the newer rooms.

Thank you for your comment on our staff, I will pass it on to my colleagues. The teamwork in Hotel Birger Jarl is important and we take pride of ensuring the comfort, enjoyment and total relaxation of our guests at all times.

Yours sincerely,

Jenny Björk
