I had to stay in Stockholm for a business trip for 1 night and chose this hotel as it was relatively cheap and good located. I arrived fairly late in the evening and due to this I was checked in by a trainee night receptionist, generally not the people with the best system skills, so I had to be patient, which was a bit testing when you arrive quite late and tired. All credit to him, he was friendly and apologetic and apparently gave me a upgrade to a bigger room. However this room was everything but the quiet room I requested upon booking, there was a scaffolding right outside my window and the workers started really early, so the noise of the lift woke me up before my alarm clock. The room was also facing the street, so I had that noise to compete with as well. The room itself was spacious and nice, it contained everything that one can wish for, for a one night stop over. The shower was good, clean and well maintained. The bed was comfortable and had plenty of pillows, which is nice so I don't have to go and look for them or ask reception to bring me one and wait for that. The breakfast was very good with a huge selection to be able to choose from. The buffet contained eggs, pancakes, herring, selection of breads, english breakfast and much more, the only downside was the coffee. They have a beautiful WMF machine, however the coffee it produces was not that good and I was a bit disappointed by that. All in all I was satisfied and I think it is a good value for money hotel.

Room Tip: Well, I asked for a quiet room as I would be arriving late and departing again early the next day, b...

We have justed returned from a trip to Stockholm (family of 2 adults and a child 4,5 years old), stayed at Birger Jarl and had a great time. The interior of the hotel (corridors, lift) needs a bit of renovation but the rooms are clean and sufficient. We booked a double room with an extra bed and stayed on the second floor. Bathroom was clean and warm, just a bit small (water goes everywhere while having a shower). Bed we had very comfortable, slept very well every night. Breakfast was just great, big choice of the food and fantastic pancake with strawberry jam and cream. The only negative thing was, that the restaurant got overcrowded during the breakfast time and took time to find a place to sit. Overall we had a great time and would reccommend Birger Jarl hotel to the other travellers.

We stayed her for 2 weeks while visiting family in Stockholm and loved it! Situated conveniently between Birger Jarlsgatan and Sveavägen This hotel is close to everything! the train station is only 2 blocks, there is a supermarket downstairs and around the corner and a Sytembolaget down the road! ( haha) it is a lovely walk to the old town and city centre!
The breakfast each morning was great! After 2 weeks we were worried we would get bored of the same thing each day but there is so much to choose from!
The only downside however was the maintenance work happening on the air vent system when we stayed, it was VERY noisy work and it started up around 0730-0800 each morning! Whilst annoying, I guess everyone needs to renovate some time, I just wish that they had put us on a lower floor as we were quite a long stay!
Overall, the staff were fantastic and we have definitely found our regular hotel when we come to visit family!

All you could expect for the price, confusing elevators and at times slightly disoriented staff, beyond that stunningly efficient and satisfactory. Very nice beds, if possible consider the mini double room, not inferior in any significant way..

This hotel is not as down town Stockholm as the ad says. So that was a bummer. We were only in the Swedish capital for one night and should in hindsight have chosen a hotel i "Gamla Stan" - The Old Town. Learn from our mistake and do that if you travel to Stockholm and can afford a better hotel, because the price was fair. The staff were great, always smiling, and always helpful. The breakfast was quite boring, very standard, with nothing gluten free.

Birger Jarl's a perfectly nice, comfortable hotel in a relatively central location in Norrmalm. Rooms are fairly simple, wouldn't be described as luxurious perhaps, although size is good and beds/bedding are excellent. Bathrooms could do with a bit of an update. Service was good and the breakfast buffet excellent. If you're looking for a nice, clean, comfortable hotel at a better rate than its more premium peers near the waterfront, and not too fussed about the five-star embellishments, this is your spot.
