“rooms with character and a nice location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 September 2012

Whenever I travel over to Stockholm for business, I try to stay in this hotel. There are 3 things which I think this hotel makes special:

1. the rooms have character. The building is located in a house that must be well over 200 years old and even those rooms not having seaside view all look special. They are light-years apart form tose interchangeable hotel room stylings you find in other places
2. Nice breakfast in a calm surrounding. What i really hate are overcrowded breakfast rooms in hotels. This one here has never been crowded on the many occasions I stayed there and the quality of the breakfast is excellent. the personnel holds an eye with who enters the breakfast room which means more security for your luggage when eating breakfast on your checkout day.
3. The hotel is located in Gamla Stan, the historical part of Stockholm and if you are lucky, pay an extra or are frequent customer you can get a room with fantastic view across the harbour. The suite rooms even have an en-suite sauna :-)

We were there for 2 nights during our wedding anniversary. Its a conveniently-located hotel, close to the old town but dont think the hotel live up to its name. The good part is the breakfast, that was good, we enjoyed it alot, very good in Swedish breakfast standard. The spa is a nice feature too, but the gym is more like a household one room workout area. in fact, can hardly use the word gym to describe it.
The hotel room is quite a let-down, the windows doesnt have any view( do understand that this is a heritage-fitout type of building), but obviously not much effort put in to conpensate for the lack of that. Room without Coffee, coffee cup/ kettle etc.! Just immagine a swedish hotel without any coffee.Coffee!
Rang up the reception and was asked regarding our booking type and they were quite reluctant to provide even this cheapest things that can be provided in a 4-5star hotel. Bathroom fitout was quite old and cheapie, No toothbrush and toothpaste, come on..for a 4-5star hotel.
The bed is quite a killing, Sagging on one side of the bed, suffered through without a good sleep during the stay. obviously hotel is too stingy to invest in the fundamental piece of furniture. i guess we were pampered with the best bed in a 4-stars resort during one of our stay in Malaysia, but to be fair, a sagging bed is really unacceptable..
Overall, feels like a very stingy operator, putting in minimal effort and service..

Room Tip: Bring your own sanitary bag. Think budget hotel condition- BYO everything

Classic hotel in the old town. Located within walking distance of pretty much everything in central Stockholm, this hotel is a great place for tourists as well as the business traveller.
Classic interior, comfortable beds, WIFI, a desk, room service and an ironing board - has everything you would expect for the business traveller. Spa facilities, late breakfast and a great location near the royal palace and 5 minutes from Stureplan makes it a perfect place for the tourists. The rooms could use a slight upgrade, new TVs, slightly more modern interior and upgraded bathrooms, but the overall experience is very good.

Checked in a surprise for my partner on her birthday. As we walked past I just went in and she did not know we had booked. Checked in by a wonderful guy called Peter. Room was lovely (classic style) with jacuzzi bath tub. Views out over the water towards the old sailing ship which is now a hostel.

Room Tip: Take a room with a view over the water, it is worth it.

The First Hotel Reisen is conveniently situated in Gamla Stan with views over the sea and the Skeppsholmen island.

The Hotel is comfortable and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. They have different rooms at different rates, ranging from rooms with a private sauna in the bathroom to other types of suites and rooms. We stayed in a standard double room which had a beautiful view over the Skeppsholmen. The room was not very large, which is quite normal for city hotels, and especially for hotels in rustique buildings, such as the builings in Gamla Stan. But it was convenient and had all the necessary amenities we needed.

The breakfast was very good and had a large assortment of different cereals, breads, hams etc.etc.

We enjoyed our stay at the First Hotel Reisen and would recommend its location and vibe to anyone planning a visit to Stockholm.

First Hotel Reisen offerd a wonderful start to our holiday. We arrived early but were given access to our room immediately. Many fellow Americans may feel the rooms are too small, but hopefully they don't plan on spending all the time there but in exploring this fascinating city. We had requested a water view and were rewarded with a truly spectacular view of the canal and the National Museum across the the way. The service was stellar, the room spotless and the buffet breakfast fresh, innovative and plentiful. You can walk anywhere in Stockholm from the hotel, it's located in quaint Gamla Stan, a block and a half from the Royal Palace and the hop and ride buses and boats are also right down the street. The National and Modern Museums a bridge away as well as the amazing Vasa another bridge over. I highly recommend this hotel and would happily return.

I have stayed at this hotel for several times. Yes, it is old and could be more up to date - and yes, there is old TV's. But if you can live with that and expecting a true good hotel in a premium location and with some atmosphere, Hotel Reisen is very good option for Stockholm. Good amenities in room and some of them have both sea view, a sauna and jacuzzi. Don't expect grand rooms and spacious places. But the location next to Stockholm Royal Castle and the streets of Old Town make it very perfect, and discret.

Breakfast is excellent. Nice view, creative presentations of fruits, small smoothies, chocolate fontain and several hot items. Always newspapers and the staff is there for you just when you need them.

Personalized service in front office. With the GHA you can earn miles for both Scandinavian Airlines, Biriths Airways and others. Complimentary internet works always well. Valet parking is expensive (as everywhere in Stockholm) but works perfect.

I usually says that Hotel Reisen is the hidden game of Stockholm for an intimate old classic hotel experience without beeing highflier and high-hatty.
