“Great Location, basic hotel, small room”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 November 2008

I stayed at the Adlon last night (Nov 12th) as it is located very close to the Arlanda Express, which is the fast transit train to the airport from the city and I needed to get on the train first thing in the morning.

Stockholm is a beautiful city that everyone should visit at some time or another. I've stayed there a few times but on this occasion it was one night prior to getting on a flight back to Chicago.

The hotel does have an awesome location. Right next to the main train station and walking distance to all the downtown attrations (bars, old town, resturants etc)

Cost : I paid around $220 for a single bed room using hotels.com. This was the cheapest site I could find. I selected this hotel based on trip advisor reviews and cost. For the room I had I think it was expensive but Stockholm is an expensive city in an expensive country.....

Location : As mentioned above, it's perfect

Staff : Check in went smooth and the staff spoke English well and were very polite

Room : The room (411) was one of the smallest rooms I have ever stayed in. It was about 8 feet wide and about 14 feet long. It kind of felt more like a cell than a room. The bed was tiny but that has been my experience with all Swedish hotels so far. Room was clean and basic.

Internet : As people have mentioned the free interent is a slow version that logs you off after 20 minutes. Normal webpage stuff is ok but any streaming or VPN work is killer slow.

Overall : Very basic hotel but in a great location

This was our second to last stop on a month long european tour that we organized ourselves for our son's graduation present.
This was by far the most conveniently located hotel of our stay.
Yes, it's location is a bit noisy for summer, and people up at all hours in the businesses below, BUT that is the trade off for being walking distance to everything Stockholm had to offer.
The rooms were clean and worked for the 3 of us well. Again, remember we had stayed in numerous hotels throughout europe so had lots to measure against......we would stay here again in a heart beat.
All of the staff were friendly and helpful whenever we needed anything.

We really enjoyed our stay: the staff was friendly and helpful, the rooms were spotlessly clean at check in and the room was cleaned equally well every day of our stay. The location is superior and the breakfast was generous and tasty (but get there early in the high season as there are not too many seats).

Conclusion: the Adlon is charming hotel with atmosphere, and comes highly recommended.

The Adlon was not in "Rick Steves" but it was exceptional value and well-located (two blocks from train station, and two blocks from key shopping arcade- also walking distance to most attractions). The hotel had a great breakfast buffet (better to book directly with hotel website so its included even though expedia might show a lower rate). The hotel also had three internet computers for use (one with a printer!), and a lounge area downstairs. The rooms were spacious, and bathrooms were modern. Beds were comfortable, and there was plenty of room for luggage (a rarity for most European hotels). Hotels are expensive in Stockholm, and Adlon was worth its price. The front desk staff were extremely helpful, and attended to special requests above-and-beyond the usual service (following up on a question we had about laundry/dry cleaning). We really enjoyed the Adlon, and again, the location was superb (close to the Ice Bar too!)

The Adlon Hotell is a 3-star (by Swedish standards) hotel located in the centre of Stockholm very close to the central train station, apparently mainly used by business people. It is very clean and well kept. The single room and the single bed in it were small but in perfect working order and relatively comfortable. The bed was not to my liking: mattress quite hard with thin, cheap pillows. There was free internet in the room but it was quite slow and the connection had to be reset every 20 minutes (by design); the 24-hour, faster connection cost around 10 GB pounds. I did not try the breakfast, at around 7.50 GB pounds. There is some traffic noise in third floor rooms facing the main street. The service was quite good.
At around 160 GBpounds per night, value for money is average by international standards. By local standards, I think it was good, but apparently the standard is quite uniform in Sweden and nothing is cheap, even by London standards.

Stayed at the Adlon Hotel a couple of weeks ago on our first trip to Sweden.

The location is very good - right in the city district, but only about 10 minutes walk to Gamla Stan (Old Town).

We had a room facing the main road, which was a bit noisy, especially if you have the window open - Try and get a room on the other side of the hotel, as the streets at the side and back of the block are very quiet.

The room itself was very good, with a really high ceiling and a great bathroom with a shower.

Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone going on a city break to Stockholm - Everything is right on your doorstep, the room was nice and the staff friendly and helpful.

We stayed at the Adlon Hotel for 4 nights at the end of July, 2008. There were 8 of us, two adults in one first floor room and two adults and two children in another first floor room, both facing Vasagatan. With windows open it's noisy, but with earplugs it's no problem. Two other adults had a room on the top floor, and being well above the street the noise wasn't bad at all. The rooms were fine. The breakfasts were great. And the front desk staff was perhaps the most positive feature. They were all helpful and pleasant. The location can't be beat: a couple of blocks from Drottningatan, the walking street that you can take all the way to the Old Town; a 5-minute walk max to the Arlanda Express station, continue another 5 minutes to the Central Station; probably a 15-minute walk to the Town Hall.

Everything in Stockholm is expensive, but this hotel is moderate by Stockholm standards: 3 rooms for 4 nights to accommodate 8 people cost $3,000.

We've stayed at other hotels in Stockholm, some a bit fancier, some less fancy, but all in all this is a good one to choose. We'll stay there again.
