I've always enjoyed the British sitcom from the 1970s called "Fawlty Towers," but staying in a hotel that reminds you of Fawlty Towers -- not so much. There were many little things wrong with this small hotel, not least of which was the wobbly doorknob and lock on our room. Instead of using a screwdriver or hiring a locksmith to properly fix the very loose doorknob, the hotel proprietor used clear celophane tape to try to "fix" it. If you don't need a SECURE hotel room, this might not be a big deal for you.

We also couldn't reliably get an outside line on our very old room phone. Even "Basil," the hotel proprietor, couldn't get an outside line on our phone when he tried! If you don't need to use a phone for local calls, this might not be a problem for you.

The worst thing about the Wasa Park Hotell was planning to stay 4 nights, but at check-in being told we could only stay 3 nights. So we had to scramble to find a hotel for our last night in Stockholm and spend precious time packing up and moving to another hotel for one night, even though Basil the hotel proprietor had emailed me (in response to my email request) to say that we could stay an extra night, but that we might have to switch rooms. I assumed he meant we might have to switch rooms AT HIS HOTEL, but evidently not, since we had to find another hotel for our last night in Stockholm. If you decide to stay at the Wasa Park Hotell, I HIGHLY recommend getting a reservation through an online booker, where your reservation is guaranteed. DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF EMAILING BASIL THE HOTEL PROPRIETOR TO RESERVE A ROOM, unless finding a hotel at the last minute isn't a big deal to you.

Not a fancy-schmency place, but very nice and clean. More hostel than hotel actually, but if you're looking for a place to sleep a while after a party night - that's what you should go for!

This budget hotel is more like a pension or hostel. The location is great, near the metro, bus stop, park, cafes, shops and restaurants. The entrance is near Sala Thai restaurant, I had to call the reception via the intercom to get the door opened and carry the luggage upstairs myself - up to the old-style elevator.

The room itself was OK, but it's not very comfortable to use bathrooms in the hall. Everything there is quite home-like, you don't get surprised when you see people wrapped in towel running to their rooms after taking a shower.

Breakfast is nice if you stay there one or two days, I've spent 3 weeks there so I was tired of having the same thing everyday.

I didn't use their wireless Internet service, which was paid - I'd rather go to Subway (the sandwich restaurant) just below the hotel.

Overall, it's a good place to stay when you can't spend much, I couldn't find anything better on the same price range.

Slightly hard to find. But really nice little hostel / B&B

Really good breakfast. Plenty of different types of bread and jam, juice, tea coffee, cucumber and cheese.

No kitchen but could buy tea and coffee out of hours. Nice clean shower rooms only problem is they are by the breakfast area so don't run through in your towel.

We had a 4 bed room only criticism was that 2 of the beds were camp beds and sligtly lumpy. Nice TV so we could watch wimbledon which was a treat.

I would go again good value for Stockholm which is very expensive as a rule.

N.B: This review is for our stay in June 2006.

We stayed at the Wasa Park Hotel for 8 nights in 2006. It was more a cozy B&B that was situated in a a beautiful, well kept , old building with marble stairs and a quaint old fashioned wooden lift in St Eriksplan - a 10 minute journey by underground to the old town.

As we were staying for 8 nights, we were given a room on a different floor in the building, away from the reception area. Most of the rooms seemed to be located off the reception area.

Our ensuite room was clean, decorated in traditional Swedish style. It felt like staying in your Grandmother's house. It overlooked a residential cul de sac which was very quiet.

The staff were fantastic from the moment we arrived and were very helpful with local info etc. The buffet breakfasts had a good selection of cereals, cheese, cold meats and plenty of fresh rolls.

St Eriksplan underground station was right beside the Wasa Park, very convenient! The airport buses also stopped right outside the Wasa. Buses start early so very handy if you have an early flight. we liked the area as it was a bustling local neighbourhood by day, and at night it was nice to return to after sightseeing all day. There was a nice park across the road from the Wasa there was also some nice local restaurants and shops around the corner.

Overall we felt it was a great place to stay for anyone on a budget. Got a great deal on trav.com

If you're looking for affordable and home-like accomodations in Stockholm, this is it. We were there for two nights in November 2007 and found it to be well worth the price, which was VERY reasonable for Stockholm. The location is perfect for access to the Metro (2 minutes walk) and for the Bus to the Arlanda Airport (right across from the hotel). It was similar to a bed and breakfast, and the staff was most accomodating with our toddler in the room with us.

The only issue we had was finding it off of St. Eriksplan - it's actually in the plaza off the main street by the Subway restaurant - take note!

Three of us stayed in one room at the Wasa Park Hotel on a Wed night. It's classified as a pension, with bathrooms in the hall. It's located in a beautiful building about a 20min stroll, or a 5min subway ride, from centeral central Stockholm, though there's a large park and cafes in the immediate vicinity. Also it's across the street from the bus to the airport.

Our room had 4 single beds, and for three cost 1075K, and was one of the cheapest rooms I could find. It looked better in person than pictures I've seen on the internet. High ceilings and big windows. Ours faced the road (not loud) and park. The other side faced a sort of 3-sided courtyard. I peeked into one single, and it seemed pretty large (by single standards).

The room was nice, if simple. Fair warning - the walls were quite thin, though not a problem for us. Also, the breakfast tables were in the space between our room and the bathroom, so making the dash in front of early risers in the morning was a bit strange. Speaking of breakfast, it was the standard coffee, tea, cornflakes, cheese, ham, and breads.

What makes this place above average in my books is the staff - they were very accomodating. They allowed us to store our things in their hotel for two nights before our stay (we were heading to the archipelago and didn't want to schlep our large packs). They also allowed us into their kitchen to make tea at night and let us stay in our room till noon the next day. They were very helpful, and it made a big difference in our stay.
