Clarion Hotel Stockholm
Ranked #41 of 154 Hotels in Stockholm

We spent four nights at this hotel. We had a corner room with a beautiful view of the city showing the largest swimming pool in Stockholm and a huge park. Two of the walls were made out of glass. We had a complete bathroom with a bathtub. The breakfast was exceptionally good and we had free Wi-Fi Internet connection in the room. The hotel is located right next to the Skanstull train station (just 4 stops from Central Station). There are plenty hotels and a mall right across the street. This hotel was more than we expected for the price we paid.

From the outside the clarion hotel looks very business-like. From the inside it looks the same. The hotel is a very good place for tourists too, though.
It`s not the cheapest you`ll find, but absolutely worth the money. The rooms are fantastic, and the huge breakfast buffet couldn`t be better. The staff is super friendly and wifi is free.
The hotel is in a very funky and lively part of town called SoFo (The Soho of Stockholm).
Subway station is just outside the door, and parking is reachable trough the adjacent building.

Room Tip: Look for promotions on the clarion website. We got our "superior suite" for the price of...

great design, contemporary designed and really modern. Was in room 4115 a superior room waited for over 30 minutes for our bags this was the only downturn to our experience. Got free wifi service but remember to get a passcode for the login from the reception and it works for only 1 device!
Good breakfast buffet with good range of choices.
Worth a try!

Thanks Man_U_canuck - it warms our hearts to know that you enjoyed your stay and would recommend us! However, a 30 minute wait for your bags is definitely much too long a wait, and not a typical occurrence for us - please accept our apology for the delay.

Take good care and thank you for your kind comments! All the very best, Anthony

I stayed there for a week during the TT championship. Pretty spacious double room, a neat bathroom and a big tv. Good service, really nice bar and food. People were quite helpful. Breakfast had a decent spread, very less for vegans but i guess thats the problem everywhere.Close to a nice mall on the opposite side for shopping and eating. Found 2 Indian restaurants too. Pretty fun place nice people.Only thing i complain about is bathroom without a handshower :P (indians will get this)
Only bummer was that you had to pay for the pool and spa!

I booked this hotel under the impression that there was a pool. When I arrived and asked about it was told that I needed to pay SEK 190. They should write down that the pool is for a fee. I am not sure if the gym is for a fee. The breakfast buffet is nice but I have seen better. What bothered me is that I could not get an espresso unless I paid SEK 29. I asked for a queen and I got one. But the bed is as soft as a water bed. So if you have a neck or back problems make sure they change the bed.The area is not that nice. It is next to a highway. Make sure to ask for a room the has a view on the backyard. The hotel does not look cozy. The lobby hall looks like a convention center hall and the corridors where the rooms are, are too long and they look like an apartment building from the 1970 russia. They don't have coffee nor tea in the room. They claim on a piece of paper in the toilets that there are more amenities but they don't say what. The area is not special at all. If you wanna be at a walking distance from the attraction don;t come here unless you like to be 1 min walk from the metro. The staff were not specially helpful. One lady, who thought she was cute (but she was not given that we are in stockholm) ignored me and answered the phone and kept talking for more than 10 mins. Normally you talk to the client and put the called on hold. I was not pleased by that at all. Although I added one more night but next time I won't come back here. I would go to gamla stan or to the south side of Norrmalm or to the west side of ostermalm.

Room Tip: Avoid room on the street. take room with no view. You want a view take a boat.

Thanks for sharing your opinions thenewstatesman. Firstly i would like to address your title and the following statement regarding our "pool".

The pool featured at our hotel is a part of our Elements Spa, and with the entrance you gain access to the spa pool and several other features such as yoga sessions, fruit and tea, sauna, and unlimited usage of a wide range of products such as oils and creams and similar.

From the very beginning since our spa opened last year we have never advertised anything other than that there is an entrance fee for Elements Spa, so your title that suggests that one should beware of what we advertise is a little disturbing for us, as we have never advertised otherwise.

If for some reason you have received misleading 3rd party information (we cooperate with many partners such as travel agents and online sites) then please let us know so that we can see to it that we follow it up.

We're also sorry to see that the hotel and the area did not suit your taste. The area surrounding us is held in high regard and many appreciate a glimpse into real stockholm life, and in addition to that many of the best parts of Södermalm are found exploring side-streets - these parts are not really apparent or even noticeable from walking down the main street.

However it might well be that these places do not suit everyone, so a read-up on the area and the type of places around such as SOFO will give someone reading up about Stockholm a good idea if it is for them.

Also, on the points regarding distances to attractions - many of the hotels in the areas that you describe are similar distances away from the attractions compared to where we are located - it may take 5 to 10 minutes longer perhaps from where we are but again it seems that it may come down to a matter of taste and one's own needs.

i do hope that you enjoyed your Swedish holiday in general. Kind regards, Anthony

Overall this should have been a great hotel, it had a lot going for it, but it was let down by a few things. On the plus side, the entrance area was nice, there was a bar, outside tables, and a good atmosphere, and the reception staff were helpful. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a really wide range of choices and the staff were able to deal with requests for special dietary requirements including gluten free bread and dairy free milk.

The location was great, right by a bus stop and the metro stop was yards away and it was just three/four stops to Gamla Stan and the central station. There was a host of local shops, supermarket and restaurants and cafes.

HOWEVER - the room was a big disappointment, in that while it was a reasonable size, it was not convenient for anything longer than a night. We were there for five nights and we wanted to unpack, but there were just four coat hangers on a very short rail facing into the room, and a single high shelf above it which was not nearly wide enough to balance folded shirts or tee shirts, and nowhere to store undies. There was no bedside drawer or cabinet to keep all those nighttime things handy, and no desk drawers or cupboards, so it was very difficult to get organised at all. We ended up living out of our suitcases, with one suitcase on the suitcase shelf and the other left open on the couch putting it out of action for sitting. Next, there was no safe in the room so it was a trip to reception every time you wanted to put anything in or out of their safety deposit boxes so you also had to queue to get anything back in or out.

The bathroom was badly laid out with most of the space being a very wide shower with two opening swing doors leaving little space for the toilet and basin. The towel rack and rails were above the toilet so once used they were dangling onto your head when you were on the toilet and in danger or falling in when you weren't. There was a soap dispenser for the shower and basin, but it wasn't checked every day, so it wasn't refilled when it ran out so we had to go down to reception to ask for toiletries. The air conditioning could not be controlled in the room you had to ask a man to come in and alter it for you! Not much good if you overheated in the night, which we did! All in all a lot of small irritations and inconveniences. We were in an inner facing room and there was no view. On the one sunny evening we asked reception whether we could utilise the outdoor area to sit and have a drink but were told it was closed for the summer!

Overall it was OK and would probably be fine if you were there for a night or two. But havng later spent four nights at the Berns Hotel after our cruise at the same rate I would go back there in preference anytime.

Room Tip: The higher you go (8 floors) I guess the better the view. The street facing rooms might be noiser (w...

Hello les 52, we really appreciate the points you have highlighted, and we are glad that you had some positive experiences too. With regards to the room, from the description you stayed in one of our compact yet functional moderate rooms, which are offered as an alternative for those who perhaps do not intend to spend much time in the room and instead use it as a base during their time in Stockholm.

As you may well be aware we have several other categories of rooms that increase in size from the moderate category, as well as ones that feature in room safes etc. One of these may have better suited your needs. The replenishment of soap and the ventilation should have worked without problem, so we are very sorry for the inconvenience caused as a result, and trust that the staff helped you efficiently when you notified them.

As for the terrace, i believe there may have been a misunderstanding - our summer terrace was a new feature at the hotel for this year, and it opened in june so i suspect that the message conveyed was meant to be that it had not yet opened for the summer.

Finally I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay at the Berns hotel, which is a lovely hotel, but as our rates and the rates of many other Stockholm hotels vary according to real-time demand and supply of rooms in Stockholm - and at times in our respective areas of the city - the comparison of rates over two separate periods of time may not give the most accurate overall point of comparison.

We certainly do hope that our hotel may again be under your consideration if you do return to Stockholm, and if so please do not hesitate to enquire or reserve a room with the features that are most important for you and we will do all we can to match the room to your preferences to the best of our ability - no question is too great or small!

Best Regards, Anthony Chu, Guest relations Manager
