“Great area to stay !”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

Hotel is based in a good area with plenty of good restaurants, we had two standard rooms which had enough room to be comfortable. The rooms were clean & had lots of nice touches such as chocolates ! Breakfast was great with a nice relaxed atmosphere would definitely recommend staying here .

You won't find a better hotel in Sweden or anywhere else in Scandinavia! The hotel is in a great location (beautiful neighbourhood) across from a local park and close to restaurants and cafés. It's on a quiet street, so you can't go wrong with any rooms. The room we had faced into the homes around the area, it was just lovely . The room is clean, with a great shower and lovely thick towels. Only down side is the lack of lighting but who needs that when it's usually daylight anyway until about 10pm in the summer!

Now the breakfast - WOW!!!! Amazing selection of food and to top it all off, coffees are free as is freshly made pancakes and French toast - all FREE and made to order.

The staff are all very personable and friendly and extremely efficient with any requests. Speak to Sean (the Conceirge) for the latest things to do in Stockholm. He is very friendly and helpful...thanks for the advice on the islands Sean - very helpful!

My favourite hotel in Scandinavia!

Room Tip: All the rooms are great as the hotel is in a quiet neighbourhood and faces onto a park...it's si...

This hotel is amazing! We stayed here for 2 days before our cruise and wished we had more time. The fact that coffee/lattes/tea and snacks are provided FREE 24 hours a day was amazing! This feature was very helpful and saved us some money in the long run. The breakfast was included in our rate every morning and was pretty filling (I'm not a big breakfast person). My husband seemed pretty satisfied with the selection and the hours for breakfast were very accommodating for people who like to sleep in. The neighborhood is very safe and the hotel is close to multiple metro stations. We loved the small park across from the hotel and it made a great backdrop at breakfast every morning. It is about a 10 minute walk to old town from the hotel. We got lost on our first trip, but at not time did we feel unsafe. The locals were extremely helpful and every person we came into contact with spoke English.

The room seemed to have a ton of space (we had just come from an apartment in Paris....) and most importantly the beds were very comfortable! They had a few English language channels which was extremely helpful (although it is always fun to try to guess what the news is saying in other languages).

I want to add that when we got back from our cruise we stayed at The Grand one night before flying out the next morning. In all honesty, while The Grand Hotel is an amazing hotel, I preferred the Hotel Rival!!! We will be coming back in a year to visit our cousin and are excited to stay here again!

We stopped for seven nights in a superior room in hotel Rival in Stockholm in July.
The hotel is charming with very friendly, attentive and helpful staff. Our room was clean, quiet and very comfortable, well appointed and had very good beds. The hotel breakast was available until 11.30 am and was very good. The location of the hotel was perfect for us as it was only a three minute walk to the nearest "Tunnelbana" underground metro rail station with very easy access to the rest of Stockholm. There are numerous shops and restaurants in the local area and it is a winner all round,a perfect place to stay.

Me and my friend have chosen this hotel because of Tripadvisor and really did not disappoint us. It deserve to be n.1 here. Nice rooms, excellent food, wine and charming location. Walking distance to the city centre. Well done.

Trip Advisor has sent us to many wonderful hotels and this was another winner. Although not in the center of the city, the neighborhood is quite nice and the metro is a block away. It was easy to get around and see all the sites. Our room was very large with lots of closets (so we could really unpack), excellent bath with soaking tub and separate shower, comfortable bed, 2 lounge chairs, and best of all a large balcony with table and chairs. We overlooked a lovely park where we could watch locals play Bocce late into the night since the weather was spectacular. There is a great bar and they really could make a good cocktail. Breakfast was only included in our room rate on Saturday and Sunday and was fine. On the other days we had pasties and lattes in the adjacent bakery (excellent). We loved the Rival and would definitely go back.

There are many things to love about the Hotel Rival. First is the neighborhood...I always love to stay outside of the tourist quarter, but central enough to get around easily. This hotel perfectly fits the bill...it's in a hip/happening neighborhood with restaurants and cafes that locals go to, but only two metro stops from Gamla Stan and three from Central station. Easy to walk or bike anywhere you want to go. And then of course there is the hotel itself. Helpful (and handsome) desk attendants, great rooms that are intelligently designed, comfortable beds, great buffet (important in pricey Scandinavia!). It deserves its number one ranking...I wholeheartedly recommend.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have individually controlled air conditioning...it was a hot week when we arrived, but...
