We stayed in this hotel for one night as a stopover as we were flying up to Kiruna the next day. The guys at check in were so great, couldn't be more helpful. We had upgraded to a superior room, which was overlooking the square at front of building. Really comfy room and bed. Brill LCD tv with DVD with an ample supply of DVD'S to watch. Also in room they had a selection of CD's covering a wide genre of music and of course the one in front was ABBA, which of course we had to play and have a jig to! Location great, 10 min walk to the old medieval part of town. Buffet breakfast was ok. We plan on going back and spending more time there.

As per the glowing reports on here Hotel Rival definitely the place to stay in Stockholm.
Great location and ambiance. The food in the restaurant is wonderful (and the staff are excellent). The cafe is fun and friendly and full of locals - always a good sign as long as you can get a table.
Perhaps the only downside was the size of the room. Although it was well designed it was a little small. That said it was still a pleasure to stay there and when I go back to Stockholm I'll heading for the Rival

Best, cheapest and easiest way to get to the hotel from Arlanda airport is by train. Very quick and half price at weekends. We then took a taxi for the short trip from the Central station to the Rival. The hotel is within easy walking distance of 'old town' Stokholm, so not far to walk for attractions etc. The 4th floor of the hotel has and ice/water machine + free coffee and tea making facilities, there was even a tub of biscuits to nibble. The hotel buffet breakfast was excellent; rooms very comfortable and spacious, worth paying for a deluxe room. The hotel has free movies in your room and also a selection of ABBA CD's to listen to which is probably not surprising considering the name of the owner!

Travelled to Stockholm with my 17 year old daughter for some sightseeing and shopping and picked the Hotel Rival because of its reviews on tripadvisor. Had a fantastic time and the hotel lived up to its reputation. The staff were some of the friendliest and helpful staff I have ever come across.
Much to my daughters delight they had a pillow menu and dvds could be delivered to your door, also her ipod connected into the sound system which could be heard in the bathroom- all very cool!
Although the room was not large it was wonderfully thought out and beautifully designed. There was also facilities on the fourth floor to get free tea, coffee or ice which was very much appreciated after a day sightseeing.
The bakery next door is a good option if you do not have breakfast included and the cafe attached is also very good.
The Hotel Rival is within easy walking distance of the Old Town and it is very easy to get around Stockholm by foot. All in all an excellent choice of hotel in Stockholm with some lovely extras.

This is a hotel with rooms you're not in a hurry leaving. Stayed in a Deluxe room, spacy, neat yet comfy and a lot of personal touch inspired by the owner, Mr. Benny Andersson from ABBA.

Top notch - staff, location, room, food, extras, interior...

Would definitely stay again. And again.

The hotel Rival was a wonderful experience. As soon as you walk through the doors you enter a plush universe of red velvet, heavy glass doors, thick carpet, but all with a very modern, trendy feel. The welcome couldn't have been warmer, with smiling staff speaking amazing English.
The room was stunning, with very comfortable bed linen, ABBA CDs, teddy bear and a beautiful, spotless bathroom with built-in speakers!

The restaurant was wonderful, first class service and delicious food at both dinner and breakfast.
The Rival is not in the very centre of Stockholm, but in the more authentic Sodermalm district, which I preferred anyway. It's a very short walk to the Mariatorget underground station, and from there just 5 mins to the centre.
An unforgettable stay at the Rival meant that we'll definitely be back!

After checking Tripadvisor for a good hotel in Stockholm I decided to go to Hotel Rival for an extended weekend trip to Stockholm. Booking through the Hotel website proved to be impossible since the site required me to give a mobile number but my German cellphone number didnt fit the required format of the site, so I couldnt finish the transaction online. Instead I called the hotel and made the booking which ended up to be cheaper than the online-booking price since the breakfast was now included in the price.
The taxi ride to the hotel from the airport costs between 490 and 550 Krona, depending on which taxi you end up in. The prices as such are fixed and written on the taxi doors.
The hotel is very beautiful and stylish, the de luxe room we had was big, brightly lit and perfectly clean. It had a mini bar, a safe, an ironing board and a huge DVD library (100+ films) which you could access anytime free of charge. The room was very stylish and felt very welcoming and cozy.
The bath was clean and bright, had a big walk-in showercabin as well as a bath tub.
The hotel is located in Södermalm, a trendy quarter of Stockholm. The Debazer club (loads of bands playing there live) is in walking distance, as are many restaurants and small trendy shops and fashion stores. To get to the old town (Gamla Stan) you can take the subway station Mariatorget (marked with T for Tunnelbana) which is 50 meter from the hotel or you walk for 15 minutes through a nice part of Södermalm.
An info for ABBA fans: the hotel is owned Benny Anderson of Abba fame. But I guess he wont be around all too often ;)
