This hotel is right on the edge of being great, I can understand why it has good reviews, I think on the right day, with the right interactions with staff it would be great. However, we were there 7 days and that was not our experience.

The Good:
Our room was nice with a great view of the square. We stayed in a deluxe double room. The housekeeping staff was awesome, and our room was spotless when we arrived and spotless throughout our stay. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom well laid out. There is a coffee/espresso bar on the fourth floor that is wonderful.

The Not-So-Good:
The biggest disappointment was the staff. Aside from Sean, the Concierge--people just were not very friendly or helpful. The other problem is, Sean is not always there. For example our first night we asked for a recommendation for where eat meatballs. This seems like this would be a pretty common question given the popularity of meatballs in Sweden. We were told "there's really no place around here for that". Pelikin and Meatballs for the People we found out later were not terribly far away. Other queries throughout our stay were met with the same non-helpful/moderately helpful response.

The staff in the restaurant were equally distant, especially at breakfast. I never felt like I was staying in a four star hotel, the attention to guests was just not there.

Breakfasts are good, but the same options every day, this just became boring, and aside from a few bread selections (which were really wonderful), nothing else was really spectacular. It was adequate, but not great. This was such a let down because the décor and style of the restaurant was great.

The lack of air conditioning is a rather big deal. Yes, the windows open, and it doesn't get that hot in Stockholm. But windows are not so great in the rain, and the square, while beautiful is VERY loud throughout the night with people throwing steel balls, and arguing, or even worse--a DJ playing. The room quickly would become stuffy, even with the circulating fan on.

The toiletries are very basic and again, not up to a four star experience.

Overall, a nice looking hotel, with a fairly comfortable room, but it just felt like a lot was missing.

Room Tip: Rooms on the square have nice views, but a lot of street noise.

The Hotel Rival was really great for us. From the second we arrived, we were treated like the most important guests at the hotel. We were helped with our bags, we were treated to an early checkin, and offered a room upgrade. Our room left nothing to be wanted with nice décor, a fully stocked mini bar, and one of the coolest bathrooms I've ever seen, with a window facing the television, and AUX cord capability so you could have a hot bath while watching a movie. The hotel bar was also great, with a great staff. We're from the US and didn't meet a lot of other US Travelers, so it was nice to meet one of the bartenders who was originally from New York. The breakfast the next morning was also very good with plenty to offer and a small a la carte breakfast menu at no additional charge.

This hotel was one of my first boutique hotel I stayed at when I started my travels some years agoand i became hooked on finding similar hotels. It is still Great, friendly staff and comfortable spacious rooms. Shame abt the engineering works at the local stn but it did not spoil my stay in Stockholm. Sorry for the late posting but thanks again for a great stay.

Hotel was in a good position, busy and in a hip area .. or so my daughter told me! She had researched the shopping and restaurants .. fashion degree! Great vintage area, great Swedish designer shops all within walking distance. Ate in the hotel good food and fab cocktails! Rooms ok could do with a lick of paint and some love .
Stockholm was interesting and expensive. Plenty of history to see as well as shops! Try the sea food - tasty.
