“Rex Hotel Resonates with Customer Satisfaction"”
Reviewed 16 October 2010

"Treated like Royalty" is so appropos to describe our stay at the Rex Hotel. For three women travelling the city together for the first time, the hotel staff made us feel right at home. Receptionists never tired of our endless questions about metro travel, museums, and schedules. They looked on the internet to give us the most up to date info, and gve it with a smile. The hotel itself was homey and charming, with its 55 guest rooms. The neighborhood was conveniently close to the metro, restaurants, and several sightseeing attractions. Most impressive was our 'send-off" , our last day at the hotel with a 4 am wake up call that we requested, followed up another one 10 minutes later to assure we had awoken and gotten up. The receptionist greeted us with bag "breakfasts" of sandwiches and fruit, and had coffee ready. It was on to the airport knowing that the stay at the Rex Hotel would be recommended to others.

Great location near metro stop and university with lots of inexpensive but charming neighborhood pubs, cafes and sushi restaurants. Small but clean rooms with modern baths. Quaint courtyard between two buildings. Excellent free breakfast including soft or hard-boiled eggs. Free coffee in lobby all day. Courteous helpful staff. Free Wi-Fi in rooms and computer available in lobby. Bar and spa at sister hotel ( The Hellsten)across the street.

Stayed at the Rex during a business trip to Stockholm. The rooms were tiny, even by European hotel standards. There were no ameneties or conveniences expected of a business hotel. The service was passive at best, and non-existent most of the stay. If I were a 20 year old backpacking through Europe and needed a casual hostel to stay I would have booked the Rex. Business travelers need and expect more than what the Rex can offer.

OK...here is the real scoop!!

This is a nice "boutique type" hotel a little north of the downtown area...about a 25 minute walk to Gamla Stan..the subway stop is ONE block away..easy to use and never waited more than 2 minutes for a train!!

Small lobby, but it is fine..one computer to use for free, but it was usually occupied.
Ask for a room in the "back"..I believe they are newer...very quiet, clean, wood floors and a neat black tiled bathroom...bathroom and room are small but fine...beds comfortable and shower is good, although small.

Breakfast is basic..hard boiled eggs, bread, yogurt and cereal...and bit of a disappointment compared to the Birger Jarl, but OK...

Price is the key..I paid $127 a nite..a real bargain!!!

If you could stay at the Birger Jarl at around the same price, I would stay there..but the Rex is a great bargain and would stay again!! Stockholm is expensive and this is one of the few great deals!!

This is a no nonesense practical city hotel in an older building in central Stockholm. We spent 3 nights here and found it perfectly adequate and pleasant. Yes the rooms are small, but if you are visiting a city like Stockholm you aren't going to spend long in your hotel room, and as a base for sightseeing it is a good choice.

Although there are many references to the 2 stops on the underground system to the centre, we chose to walk on each occasion, and enjoyed walks throughout the city centre and to Djurgarden. It is an easy walk from the hotel to the centre.

The room was clean, adequately equipped and comfortable. The staff were pleasant and helpful, and the cold buffet breakfast, while not extensive is adequate. For a city centre hotel in a capital city we considered the value to be excellent.

While the rooms are small, the decor is new and the bathrooms are sleek and modern (nice touch to have a black tiled bathroom). It is extremely convenient - lots of restaurants and cafes nearby, the subway station is just a block away. Complimentary coffee, tea and water provided in the hotel lounge. Staff are pleasant and efficient. A good stay for no frills business travelers.

Amazing hotel. Location is so central, walking distance to city centre. Train station just a block away. The hotel itself is so nice, modern and chic. The room were fantastic, and most of all the bed was so comfortable!!! The bathroom was so beautiful,, just stunning. For the value it was more than what we expected. The breakfast was perfect, with a cute dining area. We were pleasantly suprised as we were expecting a smaller room. There is a grocery store (Lidl) one block away, Pizzeria a block away. Just a perfect location. Coffee was available at the reception area all day, with free wireless. Amazing place for the value.
