“Perfect place in central Stockholm.”
Reviewed 28 June 2010

At first you are not sure if you enter someone's private apartment as Parlan Hotel is taking half of the second floor of an imposing old Stockholm town building. Then, as you walk in, it feels like home and I could hardly believe how cosy and quiet this place really is. The room I stayed was No 29, right at the end of the corridor, and it was so peaceful you could not believe you are a so close to the city centre. The nearest tube station is only 5 minutes walk, there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby, even a little corner shop up the road if you forgot something and it opens until late.
My room was not the most modern but spotlessly clean and with wireless I could work in comfort and peace. Breakfast was superb, lovely food and top quality. The week before I was traveling in Ireland and had a great stay, this week in Sweden and another superb hotel, when will my luck finally run out? This was a gem of a place, I just hope there will be a room for my next business trip to Stockholm in a few months time!

The room was much larger than comparable hotels and very clean. Even though it faced the street, it was very quiet and also light and airy. The staff went out of the way to make us comfortable. Excellent breakfast, too. The location was one of the best things. It was walking distance to Old Town Stockholm, Gamla Stan, the canal, and Royal Palace.

Stayed here with my partner and also my son and his fiance so had 2 rooms, was a great little hotel. Felt very homely, lovely furnishings, rooms was great and our bed was devine! Lovely staff and really good breakfast which was all layed out for you to just help yourself. We had 2 nights there and 1 night was really cold so we just bought some food and wine and sat in the lovely lounge room and enjoyed a night in (as way cheaper than eating out!!, and it was so nice and cosy too). Would highly recommend and for A$210 a night it was the best value for money as I found it hard to find anything cheaper anyway. Totally recommend it to everyone but particularly for anyone who wants to be central and walking distance to city. Bring your winter woolies though as it was freezing and that was only 2 weeks ago! Beautiful city though.

It is hard to find a place to stay in Stockholm for under $200 per night that has any decent reviews/private baths and aren't hostels. If you like bed and breakfasts, this is the place to be.

It is a bit difficult to find as it is only the second floor of what I believe was a girls school. There is only a small plaque near the door indicating "The Parlan Hotell". The owners are very gracious and all speak english. They are eager to help you decide what to do with your time, get you a taxi, assist in any way.

Breakfast is included in your stay and served buffet style in the kitchen which just makes you feel more at home. It included fruit, yoghurt, cheese, bread rolls, meat tray, and several things I wasn't familiar with. The herringbone hardwood floors give a charming squeak in the dining room where there is the most beautiful tiled fireplace/stove. It isn't a place you go for the view or amenities, its a place you go to feel comfortable and rejuvenate after a long day in beautiful Stockholm. The rooms are adequately sized with their own bath rooms. Very, Very, VERY comfy beds with a simple but fabulous feather duvet. Free WiFi was perfect, never a glitch.

The Parlan is off the beaten path, but very close to everything. We were able to walk to all the sites even in the dead of winter. I give it 5 stars!

The Parlan is located close to many museums and feels like a home away from home. The breakfast buffet was fabulous and the staff very helpful. My only criticism would be the towels were a little down market. Other than that I highly recommend the Parlan!

The Parlan Hotel is one of the true gems in Stockholm and we strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to stay at a very reasonably priced pleasant place that feels like home.
There are 9 very quiet rooms on the 2nd floor with an elevator (really the 3rd because the ground floor is called the basement) in a classic building (you should walk down the great curved marble steps)--it is a in a very convenient location in the non touristy area of Ostermalm. The rooms have high ceilings, comfortable beds, and large bathrooms. There is a delightul balcony where you can sit overlooking the building's courtyard and there are 2 other sitting areas with large, comfortable chairs and sofas and fireplace. The continental breakfast is more than adequate and is served in a large kitchen and large dining area. There is coffee and brewed tea (or you can brew your own), 2 kinds of dry cereal, different kinds of breads, jam, cold cuts, cheese that you slice, cut up fruit, yogurt and soft boiled eggs. There is no tea or coffee making equipment in the rooms, but you can use the kitchen to make coffee or tea at any time and you can use the microwave to heat items from take out places or supermarkets (there are quite a few within a few blocks in this neighborhood,)

The Parlan is only 1 1/2 blocks north of the harbor and the beautiful Strandvagen (a major street along the water) and a few blocks from the 1888 Saluhall, a classic food market, with stalls, restaurants, cafes. The T-Bana (metro stop) is near the Saluhall, but we found that besides walking, the easiest mode of transportation around the city was by bus--Route 76 on Strandvagen takes you right to the Royal Palace in Gamla Stan or into Sodermalm (or if going in the other direction takes you directly to the Silja cruise line). Route 47 on Strandvagen goes over to Djurgarden and the Nordic Museum, Skansen, Tivoli, etc. Bus 62 runs through the downtown area and comes north with a stop near the Saluhall and convenient to the hotel. One note--you cannot buy tickets from the bus driver--you have to buy them in advance--we opted for the strip of 8 tickets (senior 110 SEK, regular 180 SEK)--tickets are stamped at the T-Bana entrance or by the bus driver and can be used for one hour on any busses, metro or trains within the central zone.

The Parlan is co-owned by Gustav and Robin. Robin was working the 3 days we were at the hotel. He is a delightful guy who is very helpful with suggestions, directions, calling locations getting information for you, printing out information, etc. . He even helped us learn Swedish words and phrases each day. The desk is open until 3 PM, but besides your room key, you are given the code to get into the building and into the hotel when it is closed. Those arriving later were given that information, as well as their keys were waiting at the desk for them. The hotel has working people staying as well as tourists and has wi-fi available.

Hotel Parlan truly is a pearl. We spent 3 nights at Parlan and wished we had longer. The staff (may have been the owner) was friendly and extremely helpful with getting us information about local sites. The rooms were larger than we expected and decor very modern and welcoming. We had the room next to the breakfast room and I worried it might be loud but it was surprisingly quiet. Breakfast was delicious and after 2 weeks in Scandinavia I enjoyed the addition of cereal and yogurt to the traditional meats and cheeses. The hotel is in a nice neighborhood about a 15 minute walk to the Vasa/Skansen/Nordic Museum area and the same to the Gamla Stan. We highly recommend Parlan as it is an excellent value with a great location.
