The Parlan was a girls school in the 1800's that was converted to a quaint hotel. Breakfast is homemade every morning. The Parlan is within walking distance of shops and restaurants.

Here's what I liked about Parlan: its affordability, the idea of a boutique hotel in a quiet neighborhood in a lovely building, the very good mirror and reading lights (which turn out to be rare in Scandinavian hotels), the top quality teas and coffee, the comfortable bed, the chic neighborhood in walking distance to anything we wanted to do, and the fan in the room, as it was quite hot inside and we needed circulating air to be comfortable in the room.

What I did not like about the Parlan: the tiny, awkward, cheap shower "cabin" with a clogged soap dispenser, no hairdryer, and especially the noise. Other reviews mentioned quiet, which is why I chose this place, but in fact, our room opened onto the building's courtyard, where local apartment residents would talk loudly and let their dog bark. Also, there was a group staying at the Parlan (friends of one of the owner, I think), who basically took over the public areas--sittng for hours in the lounge, popping beers and talking loudly, or crowding onto the tiny deck near the registration desk, chain smoking with the door open so the smell wafted in and polluted the inner areas, and leaving their shoes strewn all over the hall. I felt like I was imposing on someone else's house and party, and it wasn't inviting or relaxing. Gustav was there when we stayed, and was only available for advice at breakfast time--he was briefly informative but not especially forthcoming. The printed information in the room about restaurants in the area was out of date and unhelpful--one recommended restaurant no longer exists and another was not open for dinner, which we found out once we'd walked over there. The breakfast, while sufficient, got tiring by our third of four mornings.

Despite the shortcomings of the hotel, we had a great time in Stockholm, exploring historic Gamla Stan (find the charming Sven Vintaparre Cafe for coffee or a light lunch and the delicious Kryp In for dinner, both on peaceful streets), taking the ferry out to the archipelago and exploring homey Sandhamn Island, and riding rented bikes around Djurgarden (don't miss the Rosendals Garden near Skansen for a botanical gem that few tourists seem to find). We ate one night at a funny pub once voted "best in the world" -- a Brit hangout called Tudor Arms with decent pub food, affordable pints, and funny, highly personable waiters.--just a minute or two from the Parlan by foot.

At first you are not sure if you enter someone's private apartment as Parlan Hotel is taking half of the second floor of an imposing old Stockholm town building. Then, as you walk in, it feels like home and I could hardly believe how cosy and quiet this place really is. The room I stayed was No 29, right at the end of the corridor, and it was so peaceful you could not believe you are a so close to the city centre. The nearest tube station is only 5 minutes walk, there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby, even a little corner shop up the road if you forgot something and it opens until late.
My room was not the most modern but spotlessly clean and with wireless I could work in comfort and peace. Breakfast was superb, lovely food and top quality. The week before I was traveling in Ireland and had a great stay, this week in Sweden and another superb hotel, when will my luck finally run out? This was a gem of a place, I just hope there will be a room for my next business trip to Stockholm in a few months time!

The room was much larger than comparable hotels and very clean. Even though it faced the street, it was very quiet and also light and airy. The staff went out of the way to make us comfortable. Excellent breakfast, too. The location was one of the best things. It was walking distance to Old Town Stockholm, Gamla Stan, the canal, and Royal Palace.

Stayed here with my partner and also my son and his fiance so had 2 rooms, was a great little hotel. Felt very homely, lovely furnishings, rooms was great and our bed was devine! Lovely staff and really good breakfast which was all layed out for you to just help yourself. We had 2 nights there and 1 night was really cold so we just bought some food and wine and sat in the lovely lounge room and enjoyed a night in (as way cheaper than eating out!!, and it was so nice and cosy too). Would highly recommend and for A$210 a night it was the best value for money as I found it hard to find anything cheaper anyway. Totally recommend it to everyone but particularly for anyone who wants to be central and walking distance to city. Bring your winter woolies though as it was freezing and that was only 2 weeks ago! Beautiful city though.

It is hard to find a place to stay in Stockholm for under $200 per night that has any decent reviews/private baths and aren't hostels. If you like bed and breakfasts, this is the place to be.

It is a bit difficult to find as it is only the second floor of what I believe was a girls school. There is only a small plaque near the door indicating "The Parlan Hotell". The owners are very gracious and all speak english. They are eager to help you decide what to do with your time, get you a taxi, assist in any way.

Breakfast is included in your stay and served buffet style in the kitchen which just makes you feel more at home. It included fruit, yoghurt, cheese, bread rolls, meat tray, and several things I wasn't familiar with. The herringbone hardwood floors give a charming squeak in the dining room where there is the most beautiful tiled fireplace/stove. It isn't a place you go for the view or amenities, its a place you go to feel comfortable and rejuvenate after a long day in beautiful Stockholm. The rooms are adequately sized with their own bath rooms. Very, Very, VERY comfy beds with a simple but fabulous feather duvet. Free WiFi was perfect, never a glitch.

The Parlan is off the beaten path, but very close to everything. We were able to walk to all the sites even in the dead of winter. I give it 5 stars!

The Parlan is located close to many museums and feels like a home away from home. The breakfast buffet was fabulous and the staff very helpful. My only criticism would be the towels were a little down market. Other than that I highly recommend the Parlan!
