Ibis Styles Stockholm Odenplan
Ranked #85 of 154 Hotels in Stockholm
Reviewed 23 February 2014

the rooms are super small but i have to be honest i slept like a baby, how i showered on the other hand is another story. if you must have room in the bathroom this is not for you. on the good side breakfast was good, i was very surprised, i thought it might be like the bathroom #### but it wasn't.

Room Tip: a twin room is larger than a double both in bathroom and bedroom

This property was very easy to find from Odenplan station, less than 2 minutes' walk from any of the station's exits. The exit at the front of the train as it heads out of Stockholm city centre is nearest. For anyone used to a typical Ibis property (modern, functional, bland) this one is very different, an old building squeezed between many more old buildings.

Reception was quick and friendly, telling us all we needed to know in good English. There is a single lift, which seems adequate as most of the six floors have less than ten rooms on them. The room was a surprise, even by Ibis standards it was tiny! Barely room to walk past the beds to the window. This is not helped by some silly 'modern art' on the wall which impedes walking space. The beds themselves were very comfortable.

The bathroom was small, but this is de rigeur for Ibis properties. It did seem quite modern though, although lighting was limited meaning the shower area was extremely dark. Free wifi is provided throughout the property and was very welcome.

The lower ground floor (below reception) hosted a small guest 'lounge' with coffee machine, tea bags, some comfortable seating and a television. We used this rather than the room for socialising because the room was so small: this lounge is a welcome facility. Next door is the breakfast room (7-10 weekdays, 8-11 weekends) with a typical continental European selection of meats, cheeses and breads with a small hot selection (I say hot, as there is no means of keeping the hot food hot it got lukewarm quickly). Breakfast room was pleasant and not cramped at all, and the staff were friendly and efficient at bringing fresh food out.

Whilst not in the centre of Stockholm Odenplan is convenient with the T-Bana running to the city centre and commercial/tourist centres. It is three stops to the central station. If all you need is a comfortable bed, a decent shower and some breakfast this hotel is great. If you need to spend time in your room and needs table/desk (i.e. travelling on business) this hotel is not for you. In the right circumstance I would return.

Room Tip: High floor facing the street overlooks the church opposite in the main square.

The location of the Hotel is very comfortable. It takes just 2 min to reach metro, bus and food shop. But be careful with the parking zone! Ask the reception if you don't spent a lot of money! They serve very good breakfast including Swedish specialities!

Had a three-night stay here a couple of weeks before Christmas. We have been to Stockholm a couple of times before and have stayed at another hotel near Tegnerlunden, but we were attracted to the Ibis on this occasion due to the much cheaper price.

On arrival the receptionist was pleasant and took time to explain everything. We had been allocated room 105, which was on the ground floor but meant having to walk out a side door in the reception area, crossing a concrete hallway used by residents in the buildings behind the hotel and then going into another block. As such, we were given an additional key to ensure we could get in and out of the area should the corridor door be locked. A bit of a strange arrangement for a hotel.

Room 105 was clean but very compact. There was nowhere to put our suitcases so we ended up balancing one on the table/shelving area and one on a stool. This made it quite difficult to manouevre around the bed. Unlike other reviewers who had difficulty seeing the TV, this was not a problem for us as it was immediately across from the foot of the bed. The shower room was clean and spacious, but despite this lacked anywhere to put your toiletries once out of your bag - shower gel etc. had to be balanced on an empty shower gel dispenser which didn't look like it had been re-filled in a while and so I guess was no longer used. A shelf in the shower area and above the sink would certainly help.

In terms of the breakfast, you have to go down into the basement to get this. There are a few tables in the breakfast area, with more tables in the room up the stairs. However, while some people have said the basement room is claustrophobic, the upstairs room would be like sitting in a shop window, with people able to see your every move, as well as what you were eating. We sat in the basement as at the time we ate it wasn't too busy. The breakfast itself was good and plentiful, with a choice of cereals, meats, cheeses, eggs, as well as a hot option of frankfurter style sausages, streaky bacon and scrambled egg. All-in-all, no complaints about the breakfast.

In the basement there is also a small lounge, where you can get free tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc. from a drinks machine at any time of the day, and a couple of PCs to connect to the Internet. Free wi-fi is also available in the rooms (get a code from reception) and connection is good.

In summary, our stay at the Ibis was satisfactory but even despite a short stay a more practical-sized room would have been preferable.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms in the basement and across the corridor from reception.
