“A Trip Back to 1900”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2013

This is a museum that is essentially unchanged since it was opened about 1900. It consists of a large circular diorama filled with stuffed birds and animals in their natural habitat on the ground or in trees viewed against a background that took a noted artist a year to paint. You can see most of it in a half an hour. It was a time machine taking us back to an earlier time of natural history.

“No need to see!”

There was nothing in this museum, I mean nothing special. You just see wide view of nature of sort of animals which is really not attractive.

“Stuffed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 April 2013

When you enter the building the telltale aroma of aging varnish lets you know right off that this is The Real Thing. And that some genius has decided that this place should remain just as it was a century ago. The effect is extraordinary.

There's no explanatory labels anywhere, and I was told that's how the builders wanted it; a place to go look at (stuffed) animals without being troubled by complicated, condescending jargon. But if you simply MUST know, the guy manning the ancient turnstile will hand you a photocopied sheet with all the zoological info. Of course it's illegible so as not to spoil the fun.

And apropos Fun, it starts when you catch a glimpse of a stuffed Mama Bear standing on her
hind legs while holding one cub on her hip, the other by the paw, just like the Bear Family was promenading through a fairy tale.

This is how Stockholm urbanites experienced the natural world a hundred years ago. Climb the creaky old stairs and it just gets better. Know what? I'm not going to spoil it.

Don't miss this place. It's authentic right down to the lightbulbs.

Note to Stockholm City Council: DON'T YOU DARE CHANGE A THING!

“stuffed animals”

We purchased the two day Stockholm card, and entrance to this attraction was included.
As two biology teachers, we were interested in seeing the biology museum but I am VERY glad we didn't spend extra money here. It is just a big diorama of local Swedish wildlife.
Best part of the museum is the building itself - certainly worth a look from the outside, but certainly don't pay to go in!
