Different views. First room was TINY. Reserved a prepaid club room - got the first room, small dark interior room. Instead of making it right, we had to pay 900SEK to upgrade. Club lounge is less than adequate, under furnished, although with very helpful personnel. Had 3 rooms becuase of two stays at bookend of trip. Close to Central Station. Take Arlanda Express. General area around hotel is unkempt. Cars do not belong in the lobby off putting. Good location if your desire is to walk to Gamla Stan. Compare pictures in TripAdvisor to those of the hotel's oficial site.

Dear Ralff,

Thank you for posting your comments here on Tripadvisor. I would like to send my sincere apologies for the trouble with your room – I do hope that you very happy with the room you finally stayed in.

The month of August is one of our busiest periods, and unfortunately the club lounge can become crowded at times. Regarding the car in the lobby; we have close cooperation with the car rental company in our building – and the majority of our guests enjoy watching the various cars that are placed there (however our lobby does not always feature a car!).

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you consider coming back. I will then make sure you are offered a room that you will like from the beginning.

Warm regards,
Paul Peters, General Manager

We stayed for four nights with a family group, and we chose this hotel for the location, which, as others have said, is simply great. Also, it has the most spacious rooms of any of the four hotels where we stayed in Scandinavia. But the hotel is run more like a typical American big city hotel than a European one, and seems to nickle and dime you to death. For example, there is only 30 minutes free wi-fi, and after that you have to pay (we tried asking nicely twice at the desk, but could not get any more free usage). The breakfast is not automatically included as it is in many other European hotels. At an on-line travel website we found a reasonable rate which did not include breakfast, and we did not think that it was worth it to pay the high extra charge to include the breakfast. It was easy to find breakfast at cafes in the area. We thought that the prices at the lobby bar were high compared to other places in town. We had a quiet room on the second floor facing an interior courtyard, and it was very comfortable. The bathroom was large and well equipped, and terry robes were provided. The staff at the front desk were very helpful. I definitely would stay here again, but only if I could get a good rate on-line. If you opt for all of the extra services, then you will be paying a lot for the experience.

We spent five nights at the Sheraton Stockholm Hotel during July and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I booked a superior room with a view via the Sheraton web site, which was a simple and straightforward process. I had chosen the Sheraton because of its central location and relatively large rooms and because it was possible to guarantee a room with a view - all for a relatively good price compared with other hotels in Stockholm. We were visiting Stockholm to celebrate my birthday and we were absolutely delighted when the Sheraton very generously upgraded us on arrival to a spacious suite with balcony. In the suite, a bottle of Cava on ice and some delicious chocolates awaited us, which was another lovely surprise. It all made my birthday even more special and was very much appreciated.

Location:

The hotel is conveniently located for exploring the city - a short walk from Central Station, the Tourist Office and Gamla Stan - and has fantastic views (if you pay for a room with a view) towards Gamla Stan in one direction and Lake Malaren in the other. The former view is probably preferable, as the latter includes a network of major roads and railways, but both views are interesting. We found the soundproofing was excellent and we were not disturbed by outside noise at all. The entire hotel is a smoke free zone.

The Sheraton Stockholm opened in 1971 and is not particularly attractive from the outside. However, the internal decor is modern and tasteful. This is a large, business-oriented hotel with 465 rooms over eight floors. The reception staff spoke fluent English and were very pleasant and eager to help - although the queuing system at reception is disorganised at busy times, which caused us some stress at check out.

Facilities:

Soundproofing (excellent)
Blackout curtains (effective)
Air-conditioning (effective)
Kettle with Twinings tea bags and Nescafe instant coffee
Iron and ironing board in closet
TV (with a couple of English-speaking channels including BBC World)
Safe (easy to use)
Automatic minibar (including space to keep a few of your own items cold)
WiFi (a little disappointing for a business hotel. Guests are allowed 30 mins free connection time and after this there is a charge. We used our free minutes to check-in online for our onward flight and the staff at reception kindly printed out our boarding passes and had them sent to our room.)
Shine toiletries (very nice, including soap, shampoo, shower gel, body lotion, mouthwash, cotton wool pads/buds, Emery board, shower cap, shaving kit, shower puff)
Shower over bath (very good)
Bathrobe and slippers (always a nice touch)
Bed (our room had one six foot bed. We found the mattress a bit on the firm side)
Ice machine (on 7th floor)
Gym and sauna (we did not use these)

Eating out:

Breakfast was not included in our room rate and was very pricey so we never ate at the hotel. However, there are many cafes and restaurants nearby. Eating out in Stockholm is not cheap. We would recommend Herman's vegetarian buffet (great food, amazing views), Sushi House (wonderful vegetarian sushi, great value), Piccolino (nice sandwiches and kanelbullar) and the smörgåsbord at The Grand Hotel is not to be missed, although it's expensive at SEK 475 (approx £47.50) per head. N.B. The hotel's 1874 Grand Aquavit is not included in the price (as wrongly stated in my guide book) and costs a shocking £12.50 for a 50 ml bottle! TGI Friday's overlooking the fountain looks very appealing but is not an enjoyable dining experience due to cigarette smoke and mediocre food. Operakallaren Bakfickan was OK but the staff were a bit snotty, we had to queue in the street for a table, there was little choice of food and it was over-priced.

Stockholm is a fantastic city with lots to see and do. It's a lovely place to wander around in the evening with a take-away coffee - preferably accompanied by a kanelbulle! My favourite area was probably the pond and fountains at Kungsträdgården. I had a wonderful birthday and would not hesitate to recommend Stockholm and the Sheraton.

Room Tip: Pay for a room with a view - preferably facing towards Gamla Stan and on a high floor

I stayed with my partner for a long weekend in Stockholm and we got a flight and hotel deal.
The hotel is very central and very easy to find.

The room was very clean, the sheets white and crisp. The bathroom was very clean as well. All technical items were working (hair dryer, TV and phone).
How ever don´t expect too much as I have stayed in different Sheraton's and think the rooms need updating. The general areas are in a better condition.

The breakfast was amazing and the service was paying attention although it was very busy during our stay.

Because we had a really good deal I can't complaint.

I stayed many times here and think it's a nice but small standard business hotel. Good breakfast. Quite small rooms. Friendly staff.

We stayed here for 3 nights (room 357). Staff helpful and friendly. Easy check-in process with no hassles. Free use of internet access in the lobby. Room was a good size, bathroom also good size. Everywhere was clean and good working order. Bed was VERY large and very comfortable (we were upgraded from twin beds without having to ask). Air-con not particularly effective which was ok as it wasn't that hot outside but it would struggle if temps got above 25 degrees outside. Good, big TV with some channels in English. Plenty of storage space, writing areas, bed-side tables, chairs etc. You could stay for a week and not feel too cramped. We did not take breakfast as it was a whopping £30 EACH ! Also, drinks at the bar equally expensive - the cheapest cocktail was £10. But, there are plenty of coffee houses a 5 min walk away so no problem (Wayne's coffee house recommended). Its not quite 5-star, probably a 4-star with 5-star prices. Having said that I would stay there again.
