“Nice hostel with good location but too many regulations”
Reviewed 9 April 2013

Short: A fresh and clean hostel, conveniently located in the center of Stockholm, for a decent amount of money. Small room, but big enough for just spending the nights. Nice personnel. Rules over-announced and surveillance cameras questionable.

Long: The hostel was very fresh and well-cleaned. Our room (with 1 bunk bed) was big enough, considering we only used it for sleeping and relaxing. We had a room with a window in the ceiling. The location on Kungsholmen was very convenient, since it was within walking distance to the central station.
The common areas were mostly pretty empty of people. The kitchen had all the necessary equipment. HOWEVER, the stove was only available to use during the reception openings hours (09-20), which was an unpleasant surprise the first evening. They could have advertised that restriction better. The only sign was at the stove, which we did not check before we went grocery shopping. The fact that there is only one stove might also become a problem during peak season. Also, we never found the hairdryers that are mentioned on the web page.

The various notes around the hostel informing you how much it would cost you if you break the rules makes it feel a bit too regulated. Might only be a precaution though, seeing how the personnel themselves were friendly and helpful.

I stayed in this hostel for two nights before relocating to the Gamla Stan, that was the plan, however, and not a reflection on this hostel which I really enjoyed. The rooms are a bit of a squeeze, but they are clean and the beds are very comfortable. The staff is great and very helpful, and the location is wonderful both in terms of proximity to the central station (within walking distance) and to other parts of the city. There are also a number of bars and restaurants near by. The common room is nice and the bathrooms have plenty of space so you don't feel like you're on top of people in there. I would definitely stay here again while visiting Stockholm. The one thing about this hostel is that there is no bar, not all hostels need to have them, but it's always a nice perk. I'd still go back regardless, however.

I loved staying at this hostel. The staff are genuinely lovely people. Always at hand to help you with anything you need. Great location with plenty of relatively cheap (it's Stockholm remember) places to eat. The rooms themselves are basic, however, they are clean and pretty much standard as you would expect with a hostel. The common room more often then not when I was there was taken over by a gang of loud Spanish people. Still, it was a nice relaxed environment otherwise. Def worth another visit. When I'm back in Stockholm I know where I'll be staying.

Room Tip: Room 5 is pretty awesome.

Nice hostel. Clean, comfortable and well located. Nice kitchen/communal area. Toilets have the best music-line heard.
However, some of the dorms are quite noisy (in room 12 -a private room- both the door when opening/closing and the beds when you move make a lot of noise. I have stayed in other rooms of the hostel which were all right).
Staff is kind and helpful -when found. I find that the reception hours are very limited.

Room Tip: As said, room 12 was extremely noise plus the door didn't close/open properly.

This place is lovely and the private rooms which I stayed in were very nice. The bathrooms and showers were regularly cleaned and lots if fresh towels in bathrooms during time I was there. Nice communal kitchen area and enjoyed some TV at the end of a hard days touristing.

Only downside is that bed sheets are nit included. Pay separate.

Recommend this place highly.

Room Tip: The private rooms were very nice.

City Hostel is an OK place to stay in Stockholm. I found it a little bit too pricey considering that the bed linen was not included. I stayed in a 8-bed female-only dormitory that had a private bathroom. Some beds are better than others but these are usually also taken first ;)
The room was clean, warm (it was still cold outside then) and the beds had personal reading lamps.
The hostel itself was also nice and clean but the staff was nowhere to be seen for the most of the time.
