We tried to have lunch at Copacabana today (Sunday, Aug 18) and are traveling from Italy with a small well-behaved dog, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. We intended to sit outside at one of the sidewalk tables as soon as one was freed. Since there is no table service you must order at the counter. To order at the counter you need to enter the restaurant. When we entered to place our order at the counter (which is not near the kitchen), with our small dog in my arms, the militant woman at the counter went absolutely ballistic. Yelling loudly at us in Swedish, when I said "Excuse me, but I don't understand" she spoke to us in an angry belligerent voice in English telling us to get the dog outside. Quite clearly, she has either hormone problems or is carrying a grudge from staying home alone Saturday night. Such a bad attitude! Any sensible person would have smiled and said something like, "I'm sorry, but we don't allow dogs inside", and possibly offered some way we could place our order without entering the restaurant. Since there is no possible way to place your order without going inside, and nowhere to leave the dog (all outside tables were full), what did she expect us to do? Being a vegetarian and having been in hundreds of similar cafes all over the world, I know vegetarian cafes are staffed by people who are always so kind and gracious. The belligerent attitude of this hateful woman came as a complete shock. Furthermore, being part of the EU, Swedish cafe owners have the right to determine their own policy toward admitting pets in their establishment. Whether a patron enters briefly with a pet in their arms to place their order SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM, especially in a vegetarian cafe! Clearly this is a vegetarian cafe that HATES animals as shown by condoning the behavior shown us by this loathsome employee.
