“Second visit, even better!”
Reviewed 29 October 2017 for a stay in October 2017

I wrote a review in June of this year for the Country Suite (the second floor unit) you can check out, and we knew we'd be back next Summer but it turns out we couldn't wait that long so we came in the Fall, some 4 months after our first visit. That's how much we loved it. And we still do!

This time we rented out the "basement" suite. It's not really a basement. If you look at the photo of this listing, it's the 3 windows you can see on the bottom level. It's below the main floor, but is accessed via private side stairs and door, and has zero basement feel. Private little terrace right by the water with a small outdoor fireplace unit and grill, chairs, etc. Very cozy to sit feet away from the rocks and water with a little fire going. Was perfect the first night with some colder Fall weather. As I've mentioned in my other review, they think of everything. No exception in this suite! There are 2 pairs of woolen socks and outdoor fleece blankets so you can sit and enjoy the terrace in the chill! Bliss. And Jerry, of course, sets the wood up in there for you in advance. Of course! Somehow we're still surprised by how wonderful they are as hosts. We're spoiled now, though. We need to temper expectations elsewhere. There aren't many like this.

Gorgeous rustic suite that's all natural stone, tile, wood and lots of pieces and decor reused from the original mill. Fantastic. Bigger and more complete kitchen than upstairs. Slightly smaller suite overall, I think. Different. Both are charming in their own way and we'd easily stay in either. It's hard to pick a favorite, though this one definitely wins out on the shower. I love that shower! You're a pro, Jerry! Though I know Suzie convinced you to do it that way =) Team effort, all around. An inspiration, and so much fun to chat with both. We left a day early due to unforeseen circumstances, but will have to share some wine and chatter next visit!

So again, wonderful. We knew what to expect and it was still somehow beyond expectations. We'll learn. And will be back next Summer for round 3. Like I said in the other review, I write this because they deserve it but I know we'll have to reserve earlier and earlier as more people discover this little slice of paradise. Our definite "go-to" relaxation spot, from now until they close up shop!

Enjoy the vacation this Winter, guys... you've earned it. Thanks a ton!

Thank you Greg and Annie for your very kind and thoughtful review. It helps future guests to really get a feel for our place when a past guest takes the time to share their experience. It was a shame you could not stay for your complimentary third night. We're just so very happy that you two find our place so special as we do. Take care over the winter and we would love to see you both again next year.

“Extraordinary and unusual place with great hosts”
Reviewed 5 September 2017 for a stay in August 2017

The apartment was beautifully decorated, super-clean and very comfortable.
It felt really special to fall asleep to the sound of waterfalls. Our hosts were very helpful and friendly people, always out working in their exceptional surroundings, to improve them even further. If you just wanted to relax and not go very far, there is a beautiful conservation park in the vicinity. And a nature reserve.
A 20 minute drive was all it took to go to Picton, with its lovely old houses and lively downtown core; Sandbanks Provincial park for a swim in Lake Ontario, and the Huff Estate Wineries with their amazing sculpture garden.

“Perfect, idyllic getaway!!”
Reviewed 31 July 2017 for a stay in July 2017

Perfect place to stay when sightseeing around Prince Edward County. Enjoyed boating on the river, watching wildlife, walking the beautiful grounds and surrounding area, relaxing in the hot tub, and sitting on the riverside patio with a cozy fire in the evenings. The suite is beautiful, rustic, comfortable and spotlessly clean. With the fully equipped kitchen and barbecue we were able to prepare delicious meals with fresh produce from the county supplemented with fresh herbs from the garden. The property owners are lovely and accomodating hosts, and provided much information about the local sites as well as extras - tea, coffee, bottled water and condiments, etc. Highly recommend the Miller's Retreat!!

“So much more than we ever expected.”
Reviewed 21 July 2017 for a stay in July 2017

Made several videos of the soothing water rushing by the beautifully restored mill, as we sipped our morning coffee on the patio. Everyday we found new surprises in the large well tended and creative gardens. Enjoyed interesting conversations and owners' tips on quaint, nearby places to visit.
Will definitely visit again.

“Another idyllic stay at the Island Mill”
Reviewed 20 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Two years ago we discovered the Lonsdale Mill. A beautiful, out of the ordinary setting on the Salmon River, where we could do our favourite things - kayak, swim, read, relax, and explore. We were excited to try out their new, thoughtfully decorated suite, with private patio, and generous kitchen. We were not disappointed! A place I`d love to retreat to anytime. A unique place. Suzi and Gerry are wonderful hosts!

Thank you for reviewing our new suite, The Miller's Retreat and for letting others know about your experience here. It was a real pleasure to see you both again after staying with us in our Country Suite in our first season. It was great seeing you come down the river in the kayaks while you were here as I know you love to explore on the water. So glad you enjoyed your stay in The Miller's Retreat.
