“"Bijoux" probably captures it best!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 September 2011

One night in Uppsala was all myself and 3 colleagues needed but we were warned that it was a busy week so to book early. I was surprised how expensive everywhere was and settled on this one a) as one of the least expensive and b) it wasn't a "chain" and so seemed a little less bland. It was also in the centre of the city which we didn't know and thought we might get out for a meal. Unfortunately due to late flights I got there at 1.30am and had to be up at 7am so saw nothing! As the hotel reception closes, I had a code to gain entry at the back door. That all worked and I found my way to the 2nd floor room. It was like going back to student days! The room was tiny and the bed was more like a little cot! Absolutely no luxuries but the room and bed was clean and I slept well. The bathroom was also tiny with rather threadbare towels and, again, nothing provided other than soap out of a wall-mounted dispenser. It was fine but it wasn't good value for money and certainly nowhere you would spend more than a night at. Cheap and cheerful is ok sometimes but this wasn't really much of either.

The Hotel is nice but nothing special. We had a room towards the street but it was not too noisy, if possible I would pick one to the other side. We could not use any of their parking slots as they were reserved why we ended up with a parking fine in the end. The location is quit good, within a fee minutes you are done to the restaurant area or you walk up to hill to enjoy the view close to the university.
Breakfast was ok, not a huge selection and all in all a bit hostel style.

Staff at reception was not really friendly in the beginning and you we had to call her every time by phone if we needed something. In the end she was nicer. All in all a nice place, reasonable price and good location.

Room Tip: Make sure you get one, not facing the street but the back of the house.

We - a family of 3 (including our 5-year old son) - stayed here for 2 nights at the start of a road trip in Sweden. It's ideally located, very easy walking distance to the center of town, castle, university, and cathedral. The room was average size for Swedish hotels (which tend to be smaller than those in the States) and super clean. Breakfast was yummy and friendly, and we appreciated the 24-hour access to cafe machine. There were some seating areas in the hall that were nice for when we put our son to bed and wanted to sit up and read, and we used the wifi and computer. Turns out there was also a kitchen, which we didn't discover until right before leaving.

We had dinner at the Thai restaurant across the street one night, and our son loved it - lots of kitschy lights and a 'storm' (a la Rainforest Cafe, but more quirky) - and the food was delicious. There are lots of playgrounds around, including one about a block from the hotel, away from downtown, as well as walking/running paths.

Be sure to visit Gamla Uppsala, north of the current town center. A great place to explore, with a nice, atmospheric lunch spot, too!

If you're looking for a relaxed, clean, and well-situated base in Uppsala, I'd recommend this hotel.

The hotel is clean and the staff are incredibly friendly! The location is perfect, with most tourist sites and the shopping centre within a short walk. Parking is available at a small charge, but this is worth it for the convenience. We had a roadside room, which was a little noisy on warm evenings with the window open. The noise was heavily reduced with the windows shut!

I am allergic to dairy products and the hotel managed superbly. They ordered special products in for breakfast at no extra cost!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road.

Very nice room, clean, nice view of cathedral, nice sitting areas around the floors, out door balcony, friendly staff, nice breakfast area and food. Coffee, tea always available. Great location for the sights.
Probably twenty min walk from train uphill. Nice walk along the river. Trains to airport are quite frequent. Half hour to Stockholm on train. Try the greek restaurant down by the river, good food and nice setting.

Given that people visit Uppsala (I expect) mostly because it is a university and cathedral city, this hotel is in a perfect position, right next to both. If you arrive by train there will be a walk to get there, but who wants to stay next to a railway station? If you arrive by car there is limited parking at the hotel and free parking in the roads around the university after 5pm.

The hotel itself is immaculately clean and well-run, with welcoming staff and pleasant decor. We were two adults staying in a 'combi' room (ie one full bed and a convertible sofa) but we were quite comfortable and, unlike an earlier, more sensitive reviewer, were not at all anguished about this. A huge advantage of the hotel is that there are proper kitchens on each floor so people can save money by cooking for themsleves. This also, together with the fact that the place is owned and run by the university, gives a slight 'university hall of residence' feel (although not with the general mess, confusion and noise). This nuance makes the hotel appropriate for its setting and a refreshing change from chain hotels, while ofering good service and value. Recommended, (except for those with disabilities).

Thank you for the kind words. We are no longer owned by the University, but since we have this great location, many of our guests are university people.
We do not yet have an elevator, the building is quite old, but we give good value for money if you want central location, good breakfast, free wi-fi, helpful staff and comfortable rooms.
