“Well run and located but dull and small rooms”
Reviewed 23 March 2011

With efficient check in and out, nice but small rooms and a quite central location this is a good choice in Gothenburg, although I'd say that Hotel G or Avalon are better.

The breakfast buffet is nowhere near the hotels mentioned above or Gothia Towers, especially if you want some vitamins.

My partner loved its charmed room, modern decor and great offer and delicious breakfast. Personnel in the dining room where particularly kind mannered. Myself I was really happy with the location, as centric as there can be, with the breakfast but felt that the room was very small, which is a result of the location.

I stayed here for one night at the end of my trip and was sorely disappointed. I asked for a double or queen and got a single bed. I asked the front desk for help with something and was basically told to go away. Uncomfortable night sleep, not all channels on television (odd considering stay in cheaper hotel had big flat screen tv and better channels and this expensive hotel didn't). I had an illness while there and asked if I could check out late (as they advertise) told no.
Upside of the stay was the breakfast was very good and some of the staff were helpful towards the end. Not a terrible hotel by any means but certainly not worth the money.
Re: 'fast Internet' I found the net slow, and wireless was only available for 2 hours at a time. I was working to a deadline so it wasn't very useful for the money I was paying.

Rating:
I was hesitating in between a strong 3 and a weak 4. Most of the staff (reception, breakfast and maids) really is what makes this hotel a very pleasant place to stay, so they were the ones that finally tipped up the rating to a 4!

Hotell:
It´s a 4 star hotell . Quite newly renovated by the looks of it. One nice little touch is that they do have a range of newspapers in the reception for your perusal.

Location:
Most excellent! Very near the the concerthouse and art museum. Within easy walking distance from Liseberg and Universeum. And appox a 15 min walk from great shopping! There are also several really good restaurants nearby. There is also a taxi stop right outside so it´s easy to grab a cab whenever you need to.

Room:
We stayed on suite 1012 which is one of the very few suites that has a sliding door that can close off the livingroom area. Very useful if you´re travelling with children. I do however recommend looking at several of the suites on the 10th floor as they are very different in size and style from eachother. Some also have very nice corner jacuzzis. So as i said, do have a look around before deciding.
The room itself is pleasantly decorated, nothing fancy though. 1012 is a corner suite so you´ll have more of a view + it has a balcony which is a plus. Bathroom is of average size with both a bathtub and a shower. The shower is however a bit annoying as you can´t close it off so you spray water everywhere which turns the marblefloor into a veritable deathtrap. The underfloor heating is a plus. The storage is non.exsisting both in the bathroom and elsewhere!
The bed is ok and on the firmer side. Bedlinen and duvet/pillows are quite simple (read cheap).
There is nothing lururious about the rooms, but they are very functional and adequate.

Internet:
We were given as many free vouchers for the Wi-Fi as we needed. It´s however annoying that they only last 3 hours each and the the log-ins are very long to type each time. Normally there are both 24 hour or even 7 day log-ins that one can use.
Internet was reasonably fast and stable.

Staff:
I must say that the reception staff are phenomenal! Maria is particular is very pleasant and was very helpful at all times! The breakfast staff are also really sweet and smiley.
The lunch/dinner staff is a whole different matter...With the exception of a very nice blonde lady they really give off a bad vibe. There seem to be some serious management issues going on there...And they certainly don´t provide the kind of flexible service one would expect.
I really was not impressed with the girl that delivered a laundered shirt that obviously ignored the Do Not Disturb sign hanging on the door!!! That is such a faux pas one does not even expect in hotels of lesser standard! She was not even sorry, shame.

Food/In room dining:
The breakfast is nothing out of the oridinary, but perfectly adequate.
The lunch and dinner menu is nice, but a tad limited. The inroom dining doesn´t start until late in the afternoon and the selection is truly minimal.
There are also 2 other restaurants, Bishops Arms (an Irish pub) and Locanda Locatelli (contemporary and mainly Italian) to choose from.

This and that:
Gotheburgh is one charming city with exceptionally friendly people! For such a small city there is a huge range of activities to do! The shopping is excellent, there´s a huge amusement park (Liseberg), some great restaurants, a lot of parks and charming neighbourhoods and the archipelago must be great in summertime. There´s also a huge stadium that holds concerts and sporting events and a lot of sports (football and horseracing amongst them). A fantastic city to visit with children!

Fitness/pool:
There is a gym and a small pool in the basement somewhere. I did not visit it

Had my coat stolen at this Hotel. Strong WARNING. It is located at street in gbg infamous for some restaurants were the staff stole things from the customers claiming no responsebillety. Pretty much what happended to me..... Vice president was very apologetic at the same time firm with the " no we don't help you with replacement" Claiming it did not happen often. Yet this high leauge hotel would not consider paying a few thousand Sek not to have their brand at reputation. Does not make sense to me. Needless to say the hotel has not followed up the incidient with me.

For us, the hotel was in an ideal location - on the main road to Opera House and waterfront (about 20 minutes walk) - but bedrooms were very comfortable and quiet. Bus from airport stops right outside the hotel (second stop), so very convenient. When we arrived at the hotel, the noise from the disco was incredibly loud, but we didn't hear a thing when upstairs.

Breakfast was pretty average, and it didn't feel very welcoming when the waitresses started removing the flowers from the table when many diners were still eating their breakfasts. I had lunch in the same restaurant, and was brought the wrong meal (fish when I had ordered meat). Instead of apologising, the waiter argued that the meal was what I had ordered. He then took it away and, after a further delay, then brought my correct meal - again without apologies. He later admitted that he had mixed up two orders, but still no apology! My wife went into the restaurant for dinner that evening, but was completely ignored, so left the hotel to go to a nearby restaurant. And that's what we did for the rest of our 4-day stay - we ate at nearby restaurants.

Pool must be very small, as you have to book to use it - and it was busy when we had a gap in our schedule.

Despite above comments about restaurant and pool, we had an enjoyable stay; and the staff at Reception were fantastic.

This hotel was perfectly located for our travel needs. Every thing was within walking distance and there are plenty of restaurants in the area, and then there was public transportation right out side the front doors if we needed to travel outside the city. The down side was the air conditioning in the new side was functioning poorly. But luckily the weather was wonderful and the air conditioning was not a huge issue.
