For those visiting Sweden for the very 1st time IQ Suites emulates all that Sweden is about to us- Abba loving, Volvo driving, Bjorn Borg admiring, IKEA shopping travellers – a very friendly welcome, exceptionally trendy hi-tech living quarters, sauna, spa, tranquillity, comfort… We could just move in there!
It’ll be difficult to be brief but will try; though we found and booked this hotel purely based on the reviews read elsewhere (*cough* ‘Booking.com’) and it didn’t disappoint, quite the contrary.
It was like a very luxury home from home, only stopped short of opening doors through fingerprint recognition… We were in awe; and frankly rather astonished to find an apartment (you can’t really call it a room) of this standard for a price of an average hotel chains’ regular room.
Having our own sauna and spa was divine. If we had to pick one favourite feature then it'd be the Sauna & Spa area. We made a point of having a sauna every day as it was not only relaxing but such good fun! Plus you can have your own choice of music in the background (Spa area) so you can relax and really let go, enjoy yourself - alone or with company. Superb!
Cannot emphasise enough just how, for better expression, awesome the hi-tech setup was. Magic at the tip of your fingers in any room of the apartment.
We liked the fact that there was no room service as such (although the fabulous hostess will ensure that you are not short of anything, just ask) because it gave us the freedom to wake up when we wanted, eat what we liked (there’s a grocery store about 5 minutes’ walk away, incredibly easy to find and the kitchen is fully equipped, cutlery, dishwasher and TV included!). There was an abundance of towels, etc., so just used everything as we would at home.
If there was anything you wanted to find or know about – lady by the name Roxane helped with guidance and suggestions – places to see, things to do, eateries to find, pretty much anything.
Not far from the hotel (without the need of complicated maps to guide you) there’s a tram stop- from there it'll take you all the way to Nordstan which is the main shopping centre (surrounded by various other shops, restaurants). It’s quite difficult to get lost in the vicinity so don’t hesitate to wander through the narrow picturesque streets, there’re some really fun places to see.
If you want to escape from the crowds then highly recommend going to Slottsskogen – it’s a huge, beautiful park about 7 minutes or so walk away from the hotel. Go there for a run, see elk (moose) and other animals, sit down with the most delicious ice-cream or just sip a beverage and grab a bit to eat by a tiny lake. Pretty much everything is clearly signposted there but if you absolutely cannot find what you’re looking for – just ask one of the locals, they’re very helpful (some would even walk with you to where you want to go).
En route back stop at the café for some moreish cakes or stock up on chocolate in the sweets shop (we could live there, too).
We’re in love with Gothenburg probably because we’re in love with IQ Suites – its surroundings, ease of access, the hotel, the room and indispensable hosts. Everything. Even when it was raining we had a brilliant time. Highly recommend it. 11 out of 10.
