Let me first point out, I am, myself, a Scandic employee, but I feel able to review Scandic Rubinen, none the less. The rooms are not large, but well appointed. The location is just wonderfull, smack in the middle of "Avenuen",
We arrived on thursday by car from Copenhagen, and decided to eat dinner at the hotel. On the last night - sunday - we dined there again and it was agreed that these meals were the best during our stay (we ate at Farellies and Texas Longhorn on friday and saturday). They serve Spanish/Argentinian food.

*I booked this hotel for business purposes for four nights. I did book a single room but at the price I paid I expected a little more than a typical student's bedroom. The room was tiny. The single bed very narrow (smaller than a standard single) and rather soft. Worse than this however, was the bathroom (or wetroom). I am a small person and I couldn't fit on the toilet comfortabley. There was an awful smell in the bathroom when I first arrived and on taking my first shower I realised that it was due to blocked drain in the wetrooom. As water was flooding into the bedroom area I tried to unclog the drain which resulted in the removal of the most enormous amount of putrified matter and hair from who knows how many guests. When this still didn't work, I finally asked the hotel to deal with it.

That problem resolved, the next morning I went to take a shower and the shower head dropped off leaving a hose (which is not easy to shower with) and revealing the glue that had held it together (presumably from the last poor guest staying in the room).

However, these problems probably wouldn't have seemed so bad if I had slept. My room (on the 3rd floor) overlooked a bar which had people sitting out until rather late during the week and on the Friday night 'til about 3am making in impossible to sleep even with the window shut which gave the added problem of overheating.

The good points about the hotel ... the breakfast really was very good. The location is excellent and provides good access to the airport bus. Free wifi was great and a nice rooftop bar with interesting names for the bedrooms.

There was however, a bit of a travelodge feel about the place with things like forgotten toothbrushes being charged for...

Would I stay again... Ummm no.

The hotel is ideally situated for the main street with bars, clubs and eating places all nearby. I have stayed here numerous times over the last few years and will be back. Did'nt get up for the breakfast but we had very late nights throughout our stay. The night life in Gothenburg is brilliant.

Upgraded to suite, lovely, clean room. Breakfast great, plenty of choice. Hotel located close to shops, restaurants, and transport, but within easy walking distance. Would highly recommend this hotel. Only downside, restaurant closed during xmas for 3 days.

Great hotel in the heart of Gothenburg. All sights are within walking distance and so is shopping, clubs and museums. If you prefer not to walk, streetcars stop just outside the hotel. Rooms were very nicely decorated and clean. The restaurant connected to the lobby serve delicious food and have lunch specials every weekday. There are a lot of good value restaurants in the area and this is definitely one of them. Good service and giant breakfast buffet is included (including cooked breakfast dishes). Great place all together. Highly recommended

We knew that the room would not be very spacious, but could not expect so small a room for two persons. Hotel is well situated, but the room and the somewhat nonchalant personnel did not make vacation any nicer.

The room - We had looked at the pictures and reviews posted here at TripAdvisor before we went and the choice was between a small economic room or a superior room (it didn't look like the standard rooms were much bigger than the economic rooms). We chose SUPERIOR and were not disappointed. The room was very spacious, had a balcony (which you share with everyone else on the 7th floor, but everyone has their own space), and a generious sitting area for several people. The room was clean and looked fairly new. We did see some other rooms and we know each SUPERIOR room has different colors, and they differ in size. We did pay a bit for the room, but we thought it was worth it. We liked the space.

The staff - Very friendly and welcoming. Took care of all our requests and minor issues.

The BREAKFAST was great. A lot of different choices, both hot and cold.

The bar - The drinks were average and the quality was extremely random. Your best choice is to ask for something they themselves recommend, but even then it's not great. If you dislike the drink don't expect to get another drink or your money back. The service was very disappointing at times.

The location - For us this was the best location; between the amusement park LISEBERG and the city sentre, with quality stores, bars and restaurants located just minutes away the hotel.

We would stay here again if going as a group of friends/family, but there probably are cheaper choices as well which could be interesting to look into.
