Loved this hotel. From the groovy foyer and downstairs bar to the rooftop sunset bar. The rooms were good and even had windows that open (what a treat). Wifi was strong and we had no complaints at all.. The staff as well were uber friendly and helpful.. Would definitely stay here again, and consider staying at other Scandic hotels.

If you don't require atmosphere the Scandic Ruby might be a practical alternative. Be sure to reserve a room facing the street; the ones facing inside can bring on any latent claustrophobia you may have. The neighborhood is interesting, and major cultural institutions -- art museum, theaters, concert hall, are a ten-minute walk way. The staff is helpful when asked, but they forgot to tell us the strange elevator arrangement, that you have to insert your room key in order to get
the elevator to go to your floor, and if people in the elevator are on different floors, each must insert a room key. We spent some time riding up and down with other guests before anybody figured it out. Rooms are clean and of acceptable size, though we could see that the walls and ceiling needed some touchup. The breakfast buffet is enormous!

I visited this hotel on a road-trip with my family and we stayed for 2 nights, over all it was a pleasant stay.

Location was ideal for my family and I as we wanted to walk in and out of town and explore the area, which was easy at this hotel as it was so close to the center but far out enough that we didn't get all the noise pollution. There are many restaurants and bars on the road of the hotel which all looked very nice so if you don't want to eat at the hotel there are other options.
Breakfast was lovely with a wide selection, however it gets quite busy so get down early! Check out the top floor, the bar is amazing and has a lovely view!

I shared a room with my brother and we were not very impressed with the cleanliness are we found 2 used glasses on arrival and a pair of socks which were not ours! Other than that the room is comfortable and adequate.
The only other complaint I would have is that our room was directly above the gym and we could hear people on the equipment which was very annoying late at night, I feel for the people below the gym!

Room Tip: Get a room away from the gym, or buy some earplugs!

We arrived in the midst of a massive IT failure during which it was hard for the staff to check people in. The queue was long and not very happy. I guess as a result of the IT failure, the TV was out as well. In addition, the restaurant and bar surprised both the guests and the staff by closing at 5pm. This was not the best surprise after a long day travelling with two young children. The staff themselves seemed baffled at the closure.

On checkout, the front desk insisted on collecting credit card information from us, in spite of our reservation being pre-paid, and it having been impossible to charge anything to the room. The whole vibe was the staff were apologetic but clueless and not very empowered to do anything. I'm sure that the technical problems were a large part of the difficulties, but will not go back to this hotel.

Was there for only one night, but was pleasantly surprised. Nice big room, clean with airco and perfect Wifi. The people at the reception were very friendly and willing to help. Breakfast had a lot of choice, you could find everything you could need.

Stayed one night for a business trip. The hotel is located next to Gothenburg's main street with lots of restaurants, bars and shopping. The rooms are quite small but well thought through and comfy. Smart things here and there such as a plug to connect your computer to the TV.

Average breakfast, the big "thing" is their rooftop lounge style terrace. Great for a afternoon drink.

Room Tip: Rooms facing North East might be a bit noisy from the street at weekends, stay above 5th floor.

Scandic Rubinen has a great location right on the No 1 Esplanade "Avenyn" in Gothenburg. When we visited the hotel it was still under renovation, which meant that some parts of the hotel were closed off, e.g. the sauna area and the sky bar were not yet open. Probably it will be very nice when everything is ready (check if they are ready before you book!).

The room was very nice and quiet, redecorated with wooden floor. The decor was however kind of tacky and will probably not look as modern in a couple of years.

The breakfast room was also not open when we were there so we had to sit and eat outside the conference rooms. Not very cosy actually. These drawbacks makes the final score a 3 instead of a 4.
