“Interesting old fish market, in a building shaped like a church”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

An interesting place to visit, in the centre of Gothenburg. We bought a bag of local cooked shrimp, and then sat down at a picnic table outside and peeled and ate them right on the spot. An unbeatable snack. They also sell meals ready to take out, which can be eaten on the tables outside. It was intersting to see all of the different types of seafood on sale. A nice place for a quick visit, or else for a fast but delicious fresh seafood lunch.

“Cultural icon, and very good lunches”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

With a few different places to buy lunch, and a huge assortment of fresh-fish sellers, this cultural icon is a must-see for any visitor.

“Don't be shy - choose and try!”
Reviewed 10 August 2014 via mobile

Just some tips:
1. It's a destination both for locals and tourists, so the place is always crowdy.

2. Check the opening hours of the Fish Church before your visit. It's important! It opens late and closes early and I assume that the best time to visit is a lunch (it's always busy).

3. Two restaurants located inside/outside in the building are expensive and slow with service. You can try it by yourself, but I the food is common. But please don't you buy if somebody will tell you that those restaurants are "the only place with cooked fish here". Restaurants are serving good wine, so it's the only unique selling proposition they have on Fish market.

4. All merchants on the market will be happy to offer you "food-to-go": soups, kish pies, salads, sandwiches and burgers. Food is really fresh and tasty and prepared / heated right here before your eyes. Choose what you want and take a seat on one of shared tables (they are free of charge and located outdoor near the entrance/exit area) or at the stairs or benches located at the embankment.

5. Pay attention to the ticket machine when you ordering. Swedish people are very disciplined and polite, but do not jump over them when you are shopping or ordering - take your ticket first and wait :)

6. Check your camera and phone memory/battery before the visit, because you don't want to miss an opportunity to make bunch of great and tasty photos!

7. Enjoy your experience!

My favs at Fish Church are swedish milk fish soup with tomato - the scandinavian version of chauder and a fish cupcake (it looks like a dessert by it's shape, but it's not a sweet, só don't worry).

“The palce for fresh seafood”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

A translation of the name Feskekörka suggest this is a church for the fish, and in some way this is true as this is where some of the fish has their last rest. The building is located in the center of the city and right by the canal. Here fishermen have sold for 100 years. Today there are a handful of merchants in the Feskekörka, and you also have a couple of nice seafood restaurants suitable for lunch. An alternative is to buy ready made dishes from the shops - or simply enjoy a pound of fresh shrimps on the benches outside the premises.
